Heading to Vegas weekend of the 21st. I'm taking my daughter to Hiroyoshi for her birthday dinner. Omakase or Ala Carte? I feel like we could get a ton of value for $less than 300 ala carte, but is the omakase experience there worth the $150 price tag? Also, on my own for Sunday dinner. Suggestions for a solid sub $150 solo dinner mid-south strip?

Back to those who visited Edo and got their tasting menu ...
.... was it filling? would you and a friend be too stuffed to also try their Iberico Charcuterie Board, which sounds really good to me?

i wasn't hungry after but no where near stuffed. it's not a ton of food in the typical american restaurant sense.
looks like the charcuterie board is $28, and with high quality ingredients i'm guessing it won't be a lot and you'll have room for it.

Thanks RED. I think that will be the plan. Probably will skip the cavier but the scallop supplemental looks too good to pass.

Booked a trip next month, and EDO will be our nice meal. I will try my best to take pics, but it seems this thread has this menu covered as of late.

Any thoughts on The Capital Grille in Fashion Show Mall?

Looks like good view/ambience, good to great service, and quality steaks.

Fwiw, in Vegas, only other steakhouse I went to was Vic and Anthony's, which was good but not great imo. Was seated super close to a group of four who were super loud/obnoxious, which was a bit of a turn off. The food was good but nothing was amazing or mind-blowing. It was comparable to steakhouses I've had here in San Diego.

Obviously I can go to Cut or Gordon Ramsay Steak or Jean Georges, etc, but I'm not necessarily looking for the ultra top tier of steakhouses in Vegas. Though I do hear nothing but great things about Cut, for example.

Looking for something with a nice, relatively quiet ambience, good service, and quality steaks/sides.

Since nobody else commented yet. I've never been to the LV location but doubt it's much different than any other Capital Grille?

Consistency across locations is key for them. Same as with Ruth Chris and other upscale steak house chains. A lot of their business comes from business travelers / meetings who have pretty clear expectations from visiting 10+ other locations across the country.

Thanks! I've never been to a Capital Grille. I realize it's a chain, which could be a double-edged sword, but hopefully that consistency across locations that you stated is adhered to.

I will report back in here with a review.

Re:steakhouses

Three of us went to Scotch 80 Prime last night. Was very good. I definitely recommend.

Pricing is on par with other strip steakhouses. Rough estimates: got a salad ($20), two apps ($25-30/ea), a 40oz tomahawk ribeye ($180), three sides ($15/ea), and maybe 6 drinks @ $20-25, and the total was roughly 485 after tax, before tip

It’s definitely in the top tier of steakhouses for me, although my wife and I routinely pick other places to go. Not sure why we don’t go more but it’s still in top five overall steakhouses in Las Vegas.

Yeah I read really good reviews of Scotch 80 Prime. With Chef Barry leaving and opening Barry's at Circa a few years back (have heard good things about Barry's too) and Chef Marty Lopez at the helm, I've heard/read good things about the newly reopened Scotch 80 Prime.

I definitely considered it but The Capital Grille will be in walking distance from my hotel, so I think I'll give them a go.

absolutely love the strip mall ambiance (i'm serious)

no test tubes and no pic, but the amuse bouche was a miniature pitcher of tomato gazpacho as a palette cleanser.

the hamachi tartar with bowfin caviar

paella honeycomb

the order of the next two were flipped from the menu

beef tartare with trout roe and a white asparagus veil, served with house made chips

tigreton (a parfait of mussel sofrito, french fries espuma, cornnuts) - so bizarrely phenominal

tarte flambee with iberico, manchego, caramelized onion, jalapeno oil

basque eggplant tallo with wagyu pastrami and parmesan sauce (there were two on the plate)

supplemental Massachusetts U10 scallop with hedgehog mushrooms, mussel sauce, aji amarillo, truffle-coconut beurre blanc and roasted veg. i could eat ten plates of this and call it a day. these are two pics of the same plate

beef three ways
dry aged ny steak, andalusian sweetbreads, and braised wagyu cheeks wrapped in roasted potato to resemble a bone with marrow.

dessert was strawberry granita with a popcorn mousse and popcorn dust. wonderful.

we each had two gin drinks, not pictured was the monkey 47, this one they call the grey whale.

i would order any food on their menu without hesitation...highly recommend at that price point.
Awesome, yes very similar, you included some additional dishes I had but forgot snap a pic or post here. They also mixed things up with similar items like using the wagyu pastrami in a different dish. Glad you posted the desert, strawberry granita with a popcorn mousse and popcorn dust. It was the was really wonderful and perfect dish, I was feeling full at that point and would’ve passed on a heavy desert.

I didn’t do the cocktails but they look great and one of there specialities. The wines we had were fantastic, all unique stuff you normally don’t get, really well curated selection. The I assume sommelier that helped select and bring the wines was great and wasn’t the typical pretentious douche that you normally get.

Also 110% on love the fact that it’s in a crappy strip mall in Chinatown. All those great places are, Wolf and Sparrow, Partage, Play It Again Sam. Drove by them all on my way to the strip after Edo’s.

I felt full and I would consider myself a big eater. Then again I did end up eating some of my kids short rib dish and I was hiking for several hours at Red Rock before going so maybe that impacted me. I say order the charcuterie but don’t eat a big meal beforehand.

Anyone got some good recommendations for steakhouses. I normally get filet mignon when I go to top steakhouses. Im a big fan of cut (my favorite steakhouse). SW at Wynn is also great.

Also I’ll ask any fine dining spots that are unique types of cuisine? I’ve eaten at wing lei in the Wynn Ad found it to be amazing (Peking duck was so darn good). Any other recommendations for fine dining that is not your standard steakhouse, Italian, sushi joint?

Last time I asked this it seemed like SW was the general consensus if prices weren’t a factor. Also kind of comes down to which sides and perhaps ambiance you prefer, since all of them have top quality meat.

Tried Delmonico in Venetian last time, which was phenomenal. Filet was perfect, which goes without saying but the truffle chips, lobster bisque, caesar made table side and old fashioned really made it a 10/10 visit.

Will try Bavette’s in a few weeks when I’m back, which I’m already looking forward to.

I like cut and SW a lot. Something tells me any place in vegas with $60-100 meat is going to be solid obviously. I just look for places with a bar possibly as I go alone and would rather eat at a bar. I ate at a table alone at SW + wing lei which was kinda awkward. At cut, they served me at the bar which I liked. Def recommend cut to anyone.

I guess I’ll shoot top seafood joint and any type of Mexican places that are more fine dining type (I know probably not but I saw in the casual thread some place had wagyu tacos outside the strip which seems like something worth trying). I know Mexican places probably aren’t fine dining but just wonder if higher end spots. Also another goof- any spots with a great burger that is more fine diner type? Again not sure a fine dining type spot is going to have a burger but worth an ask.

Anyone wanna compare the Peking duck at wing lei to mott 32 at Venetian? I’ll probably try to get Peking duck again and just wondering which spot is better? I would guess wing lei (It’s Michelin rated and mott isn’t I believe).

There are multiple Mexican fine dining restaurants on the Strip. For example Javier's at Aria and China Poblano (by Jose Andres) at Cosmo which is chinese-mexican fusion.

I really like Holstein's but that doesn't qualify as fine dining. Even though you're paying $30 for a burger with fries.

The only thing that a Michelin star in Vegas means is that the restaurant has been open for 14+ years and was good back in the day. That's the last time Michelin awarded stars in LV.

Wing lei is definitely a higher level of food than Mott. I’ve only had Peking duck at wing lei but Mott is not going to top it.

It's been a bit, but I think Old Homestead qualifies as far as burgers go.

Have you eaten at Javier’s? I looked at menu and it looks fairly cool! I might have to try it out.
Btw thanks for responses to this.

Holsteins- anyone have the billionaire burger? It looks very good and something I need to try.

Another qualifier is one you probably can’t believe. Go to the salt guy place, but go for lunch. We have gone twice, the place is empty empty like we were only table in it one time. I hate everything about that restaurant but the burger is phenomenal.

You're right about that! Thanks for the recommendation as I never would have thought to go there.

Not fine dining, but I do plan on trying the No Pants burger on our next trip. Mainly because the GF likes speakeasys, but hopefully the burger is good.
