AI,

I've been to both many times and would be surprised if you find the filet at Cut to really be any different than the filet at Wolfgang's.

El D,

What about a steak that isn't a filet? I have a guess but curious as to your thoughts. Have been to Wolfgang's a few times but only Cut once.

Wyman,

Much wider range of difference for sure with other cuts.

I prob should have clarified that I've never had a filet at either of those places.

Porterhouse, for example. The Peter Luger style porterhouse preparation at Wolfgang's is quite a bit different than having a porterhouse at Cut.

I doubt you can judge the quality of a steakhouse based on their filet mignon. At least not beyond dismissing a place because they can't even make that.

Right. Just making sure I was reading you right: there's only so much you can do with a filet, and neither of these places will **** it up.

I'm guessing Cut compares favorably to W's overall. For bacon, however, you should eat as much as you can at Luger's and Wolfgang's.

God damn I kind of want to go to Luger's now for a Poertershouse, spinach, bacon, and a half dozen ice cold Becks or whatever they are serving these days.

And adding insult to injury I'm supposed to get up early to take my in-laws to IHOP.

I know there are tastier cuts of meat, but I like filet the best.

I had always wondered about American Waygu and I can speak from personal experience the American Waygu filet at Stripsteak was no different than the traditional filet. Well, it cost more, but that was about it.

Could be worse. Your in-laws could want to go to Denny's.

AI,

Nothing wrong with getting filet if that's what you prefer. However, these places are all going to get top quality beef with very similarly lean and tender filet.

Taste is subjective, nobody is judging you for preferring that cut. It's just that filet mignon is so easy to prepare that you can't judge a steakhouse based on that.

Good to hear filet is easy to prepare. The spouse got roped into buying meat from one of those door to door guys.

Have taken the wife to L'Atelier, Picasso, and CUT and the only one she pesters me about returning to is CUT. Granted, they took amazing care of us.

" or even an incredible and original steakhouse like carnevino or bazaar meat. "

Has carnevino improved? We went twice a few years ago and had service that was best described as actively hostile. When I posted about it, the general consensus was that I was lucky it wasn't worse. The food was OK, but not as good as Cut.

I went into Carnevino once, it was empty, the music was BLARING, I asked if they could turn it down a bit and was frostily told "This is marios playlist at the volume he wants it at."

I asked if he didn't like his guests to talk to each other and she just shrugged. So we shrugged back and walked out.

"Is Mario here tonight? No? Then please turn it down."

I know that wouldn't work, but would still like to get someone there to admit that Mario barely even knows he owns that restaurant.

As for the quality of CarneVino, they're better at everything but steak.

MY last steak in Carnevino was 2 years ago. Last year, every steakhouse I ate in Vegas (4 separate ones spring to mind) was great, so I really didn't feel the need to give them a second chance. And it looks like from other experiences, that is still the case.

Don't post much, so it wasn't hard to find my post from 2013.

I was going to add Carnevino to my mental notebook of places to go when looking for "mebbe steak.. mebbe something else" but then quickly realised that Delmonicos has this covered already and is just around the corner. With impeccable service too.

SW is now my default, needing a reason to even look anywhere else. Last year, those reasons included being a little under-dressed, (StripHouse at the bar) SW being full with a redic wait (Lakeside next door took me as a walk-in and provided a decent steak, despite aiming mostly at fish) and being miles away (V&A bar service was very decent)

I'd go back to any of ^^ those this year and would revisit a couple of other old haunts besides. Too many good choices to even consider Carnevino, until I have at least heard several reports about it being amazing again.

Don't think we overlap this year Mark, but if we do, we will phone Triple George/Andiamos/V&A and accept the longest wait offered, plotted up in Claude's

Wow, Curtas crushed SW really hard.

My last experience was pretty similar to this, perfect place for convention people to blow through money, but nothing on the menu to me at least was particularly memorable.

Not sure if the fact that the meal for two included two bottles of wine makes the criticism of the food more or less credible.

Was he mad he didn't get it comped??!!

Granted, you have to be somewhat price-insensitive (or at least price-unobservant) but surely everyone knows that before going through the door.

If I had to fault the place at all, the appetisers don't really appeal that much to me. Hardly a problem, as a steak and one too many sides is my usual route anyway.

I'll do what I usually do... keep going back until they give me a reason not to.

I think appetizers at SW are just very traditional, catering to the Wynn crowd that mostly skews older.

That said and contrary to most people that posted about it recently, I prefer Carnevino (and Cut and Delmonico) over SW. Never had a bad dinner experience at Carnevino. Service there seems to be more distant, almost French style, than at the other places but I don't mind that.

I'm down there from the 18th June, and moving to the Aria on 3rd July for the rest of the trip.

V&A probably safest, as it involves the least amount of driving

Headed to Vegas Wednesday-Monday with Kabuto being the finest dining on the agenda.

Question: it's not fine dining but seems up this group's alley; anyone done Whiskey Attic? Reviews? Worth it, etc.

Any recommendations for a group that will have one vegan member? Heading out for a trip with 5 dudes in March for 2nd weekend of March Madness. I'd like to do at least one or two nice meals, trying to find a good restaurant that will have good Vegan options as well.

Wherever the rest of the group fancies on Wynn property ~ always vegan options and often a vegan menu.
