C'mon man, given the type of restaurant, I don't think value should ever enter the matrix. Isn't this one as simple as "they've got one try everything menu, sounds like I should in case I never come back"?

Ate at Michael Mina for the first itme in a while. So outstanding. Needs more love ITT.

Ate at Mastro's Ocean Club in Crystals yesterday. Good staff, but uninspiring relative to my expectations. Not bad, I wouldn't tell someone to NOT go, but it was just nothing that is going to make me want to return.

I wonder about that Mastro's since I've been to the one in Beverly Hills a number of times (Steakhouse, not Ocean Club, but I doubt there's much difference) and feel like I'm talking to a wall when I tell people the place isn't that great. People seem to love it when to me it's just overseasoned everything. What'd you have, Clark?

LOL, you KNOW I will be back! Most people in our party would not be interested in a 16 course meal, its not an option this time around... I'll save it for another time.

PS: Here is a review of Delmonicos from Al Mancini, I admit it is a very good steakhouse but it is my 5th fav in this town, I know how much you love Delmonicos so I wanted to share the article: http://www.almancini.net/curtas-gets...delmonico.html

i would really re-consider not going to kabuto as its truly something special that shouldn't be missed if you love sushi.

i'm seriously considering taking a trip back to vegas for the sole purpose of eating there again its that good.

Just finished dinner at Joel Roubouchon. Really good... but when factoring in the price I say meh. I wont be doing this again on my own dime, I felt that L'atillier is both better value as well as a more cutting edge menu. I will stick with L'atillier for now on.

I went to Valentino's Friday. The salmon medallions were one of the best entrees I've ever had, though I'm not a prolific fine diner. The soft butter and carpaccio appetizer were excellent also.

Went to cut a couple weekends ago and they had Japanese wagyu. Apparently the ban was lifted a month or two ago. Something like $168 for a 8 oz ribeye. Was not worth the $$, they cooked it the same way as their other steaks which probably isn't the best way to cook Japanese wagyu.

figured this is probably most apt place to put this. Seems like a decent deal

Nathan Mayvold, the author of Modernist Cuisine, just gave a fantastic NY Times talk about the cooking techniques used in his books, how to cook sous vide, the use of "chemicals" in food, his opinion on foie gras, the best way to aerate wine (use a blender!), GMOs, and so many other topics. The format is better than most TED talks IMO, I was rivited to my seat (I'm a food geek, so thats not shocking).

So, any advice for me, gents ? Visiting from this Wednesday for 7 nights, with me parents. The complication is that me mother is effectively vegan, but me ( +SO) and me dad are carnivores; seafood is ok for us 3. Chinese type food/sushi is off for various people.

So where's good to satisfy everyone ? I imagine we'll probably have 2 fine dining meals whilst there (staying at Encore FWIW).

Mother has decided there are sufficient options at the Paris tower restaurant for her, to give you some idea. We'd definitely like to have one good meal downtown too (have eaten at Hugo's Cellar previously with SO and liked it but clearly no good for the vegan !)

All of the Wynn restaurants have great vegan options because Wynn himself is a vegan.

Every restaurant at Wynn/Encore has vegan options. The Country Club and Bartolotto should both work well. For some reason I can't find the vegetarian/vegan menus online, maybe I'm not seeing some link. I'm vegetarian myself and I always have them email me the most recent menus in a .pdf before each trip.

Milos at Cosmopolitan will accommodate vegan and vegetarian diets, Picasso has a vegetarian menu and Michael Mina has a vegetarian prix-fixe menu both at Bellagio. Julian Serrano at Aria has a really good vegetarian menu. Hopefully with those plus Wynn/Encore you'll be all set.

This was awesome advice ! Just got a reply from the dining@wynn email with all of the PDFs of the veggie menus by restaurant

Sent them on to me mother whom I imagine will be delirious (and probably very skint very soon)

TY sir

No longer true, he has stopped his vegan diet. Luckily the vegan menu options remain, even omnivores will find that some of the vegan menu options can be really good!

PS: Nothing good for a vegan downtown that I can think of with the exception of EAT which is only open for breakfast and lunch. EAT is 100x better than Hash House a Go Go which was super popular as the biggest breakfast joint until EAT opened up a few months ago. I tell everyone to try EAT lately, its the most rock solid "American style" breakfast joint I've ever eaten at.
