Haha. I was just recently going to reply saying the one thing Vegas doesn't have is good Peruvian.

Just sounded like too much of a hipster/nit picky thing to say, though obviously you've got firmer ground to stand on.

Please post if that place is good, or you find one elsewhere.

Can you share one or two spots so I see the menus you’re talking about? Peruvian-Japanese Nikkei is way more fusion and I’m imagining it’s like Osaka in Lima (but probably way more expensive bc The Sundry is expensive and Lima is cheap) which is great but doesn’t tick the box for me. I just don’t know if you are looking for Criollo, ceviche, or Chifa (lol). Did you ever eat at Once when it was open?

my experience is mostly home cooked as i had japanese/peruvian friends and it was a lot of home fusion food , nobu when it came out had more Peruvian influence and so did somos Nikkei in paterson nj good tiraditos and fusion ramens.

if you want criollo peruvian i do have more a list

i have not been allowed to leave the USA since 03 so my food knowledge of lima is way behind the times

My favorite Peruvian things... these corn-nuts are amazing, and very reasonably priced for an imported item.

I've taken at least 12 people to Weera and it's always a hit. Maybe you ordered one of their worst dishes. I like the panang curry and the papaya salad.

Inside Eureka, not far from the convention center, there is Fat Choy. A fun little dinner with Asian fusion. It's actually been at least a year since I've been, but this is one of my favorite burgers in town and it's pretty cheap.

Fat Choy is great spot for some solid cheap eats. That area and Eureka is a bit sketchy but we’ll worth it.

Tried a couple more of yuse guys' places.

Lamaii: I got it to go, and then had to stop on the way home, so it was compromised. However, I was still quite impressed. I got papaya salad: very nice. Panang duck curry: man, really good. Had kind of a fruity flavor that was explosive. A dessert consisting of fried bannana, some nuts and berries and a chocolate sauce. A tasty dessert that is practically health food!

My only gripe was I ordered the 1st two dishes mild and they were still a bit too spicy. My stomach is a b. After one visit, I wouldn't move it past Weera, but I wouldn't fault someone for doing so.

Oh, it's a lovely little restaurant. Would be a great place for a date.

Casa El Desayuno: Got a chorizo skillet. I'm wouldn't say I was floored, but it was a very good, filling breakfast for a good price. I like the idea of the place, which has both American and Mexican breakfasts. They had all kinds of decadent pancakes which looked good, but I'd very rarely order something like that. I go near there for work, so I'll be back. Next, I'll most likely try the chilaquiles.

Used to love them, very expensive now with the takeover and move to convention center. Plus it used to be a family joint and now it feels very cold and one of the guys called the bread challah with a hard 'ch'.

I work nearby, and I go basically when I have to. Was super excited to be nearby but it's just not the same.

Cousins Maine Lobster made it to my neighborhood. Picked up a couple lobster sandwiches and lobster tots. Pricy but good.

They had a hot and a cold version of the sandwich. Both are $22 ea. Went for two of the hot for the wife an I. Its a roll stuffed with claw and tail chunks, drenched in butter with a red sauce on the bun, and lobster tots. Lobster chunks on top of tater tots with melted cheese and a mild salsa on top. $19.

I could make it a habit.

Have to agree. A couple friends when there yesterday for breakfast. Two lox and bagel sandwiches and a couple drinks set them back $45.

Bagelmania is good, but not as good as Bagel Cafe in my mind (took my uncle who ate so much at Bagel Cafe the first time he went that we had to cancel dinner plans and now I have to take him a couple times every trip, and he agreed which is very shoddy anecdotal evidence but another reason for my preference), it’s also more expensive and less convenient, so no real reason I’m ever going to choose it. It’s also owned by the Siegel Suites slumlords, which does not make me want to go there as well.

Bagel Cafe is also getting (maybe already was) gross pricey, but, I will always love that place.

i grew up basically across the street from kossars bialys on the lower east side , and went to bage cafe a couple weeks ago and was not impressed at all with their pastrami, their bagels were ok , but i gave bagelmania the nod , def loved their chive cream cheese. have not tried the pastrami at mania , im sure it wont be as good as katz but could easily be much better than bagel cafe

Yeah, I am not sure I have ever gotten the pastrami there, and I don’t imagine either could ever compete with Katz’s because as I understand it, pretty much no one’s does. Also, like how you haven’t tried their pastrami but it could “easily be much better”, very scientific of you.

Love it when a New Yorker joins a discussion and just says how nothing competes with the best in New York. It’s literally everyone’s favorite form of discourse. Thanks!

It can be precious when they talk pizza, but when they start talking about egg creams, my eyes roll up into the back of my head and I fall over.

Spoiler:
WTF is an egg cream, anyway?
