Anyone who puts Yama Sushi on a recommend list probably eats pieces of **** for breakfast. You cannot recommend Yama Sushi if you've had any other sushi place. Seriously.

Ya, my one Yama Sushi experience was pretty awful. The fish all has that crumbly, mushy, grainy texture and lack of flavor that cheap sushi often has. I think it has something to do with being frozen and thawed and refrozen repeatedly?

I would never ever refreeze raw fish after it has thawed. The idea of a restaurant doing it is disgusting imo. Is this even legal?

I have no idea if that's really the explanation or if it would be legal. We're talking about all you can eat sushi, in the desert, for $20. They're cutting some big corners somewhere.

The texture of the fish is really strikingly weird in a really unpleasant way. The freeze/thaw/freeze idea was just a guess. What else would make raw tuna bland, grainy, and mushy?

Ate at Kaizen Sushi across from Hard Rock for the second time. Definitely a good value. Good quality 4 pieces of tuna sashimi for $10.

For fast food/drive thru, Tacos Mexico is good, open 24 hours, lots of locations, and super cheap. Roberto's is much worse IMO.

For relatively cheap and quick (but still a sit down meal), I like Bonito Michoacan. They have another location called Lindo Michoacan and maybe one or two others. In this same class, Frank and Fina's Cucina is also great.

These may be crossing the border into fine dining, but China Poblano (which serves both Mexican and Chinese) and Mundo are also great.

Another really good mexican place, but it's up north on Craig and 15 is Viva Zapata. I think there's some relation to the Michoacan restaurants, but I'm not sure. It's delicious though not all that cheap. Like 12-18 per meal, something like that.

I have a $30 groupon for La Salsa at Caesars that I won't be in Vegas to use before it expires on October 10th. First PM gets it. I just need an email address to send the PDF to.

Please don't ask for it unless you live in Vegas, obvs. Not much use to you otherwise.

If you don't like a place that someone else recommended then just say so, but this whole "you have horrible taste because you like one place that I don't" **** has got to go imo. Its the casual dining thread; Save the food snobbery for the fine dining thread at least.

I stand by what I said. I defy anyone to have Yama sushi, then have any other AYCE place and still recommend Yama.

I don't really consider it snobbery (though it may totally be) it's just absolute hatred for that place, as I think it's terrible, and I think once people open their eyes and palettes they'll agree.

Ya, generally I'd agree, but I think Yama sushi is really, really gross in a non-subjective, this-fish-is-not-fit-for-human-consumption sort of way.

Yeah Yama by far the worst I've ever had.

My favorite was always Hikari. I am a glutton for Uni and that's the only AYCE place that had unlimited Uni. So I just go crazy when I'm there. Every other place I've been to has always limited it to 2 per customer.

Most highly recommended for locals: Sushi Fever on the west side (Sahara, just west of Buffalo). Order this:

-Sashimi platter (chefs choice)
-J roll (best roll you will ever have, anywhere)
-Just for the Hallibut roll
-Spider roll
-unagi
-Kirin Ichiban (x 2)
-saki (if you're feelin' it)

Very reasonably priced, this is a must for true Sushi lovers. A favorite of Doyle, Jenn harmon, Andy Block, and a schidtload of other poker pros and locals. Enjoy.
Sit at the sushi bar. Ask for (and sit by) sushi chefs Lee or Young and say hi from Jerry Percival.

Favorites:

Earl of Sandwich: Seriously the best sandwiches I've ever had. Everything I've had there is delicious. They use all fresh meats, cheeses, veggies etc. They par-bake the bread and then finish it when they make your sandwich which I think really makes it super delicious. Also one of the best values out there on the strip, and open 24/7!

Hash House A GoGo: Seriously impressed with this place. All the food ive had is great and it's all made from scratch, stuff like biscuits etc. You get some seriously HUGE portions of food, but its not just a bunch of crap thrown on a plate, it's really tasty. Breakfast/Brunch is awesome. They also have some really sick looking specialty drinks which I haven't tried but they look awesome.

also, I see these Port of Subs places everywhere. They any good?

Port of Subs is average. I'd prefer any of the other 3 similar options(Jimmy Johns, Subway, Quiznos), but its not a lot lot worse either.

For all you guys originally from the country...

The Maple Tree Restaurant at 6000 W Spring Mountain Rd is the nuts for breakfast/brunch. It's just a little hole in the wall place in a strip mall, but I can't recommend it enough. I was there 2 weeks ago and got what the menu said was 2 breakfast sliders (2 homemade biscuits with sausage, bacon, egg, cheese, and home style gravy). The 2 "sliders" took up the entire plate and was drowned in gravy. The wife got the Monte Cristo sandwich and said it was the best she's ever had (and she gets one everywhere we go).

The homemade cinnamon rolls were damn near as big as my head and still hot from the oven. I was so full when I left that all I wanted to do was sleep.

Small, cheap, family run place. I think they have weird hours, though. I think they're only open Tu-Sun 7am to 2pm.
