I'm staying in the MGM Grand Signature apartments during WSOP but was just wondering what the poker is like at MGM.

Do the little daily tournaments get any sort of numbers?....and what are the cash games like there?

TIA

I think we'll have to look at cosmo and just put the extra few $$ in. I was hoping it would be part of the M life thing so I could sign up to that and get points, as we plan on making LV a 2-3 times a year visit.

What months are usually the cheapest times of year?
the only real "dead" time in vegas, which is still somewhat busy, would be the weeks in between American Thanksgiving and Christmas. You can usually find a good deal and party with Asians who dont gaf about those silly holidays. January and February are also reasonably priced. Any other time, youre looking at a busy strip (March Madness, Spring Break, convention season, WSOP, NCAAF/NFL season). Of all of those busy times, June and July are probably the cheapest. Not everyone is cut out for the desert at 120 degrees, and WSOP brings less people to town than you would think, way less than a major convention.

Stayed at the SLS earlier this month for 5 days.

20$ trick got me a suite upgrade. Resort fees were comped based on play. Food was awesome- Katsuya was prob one of the best meals I've ever had. Location was meh, taxi to almost everything and uber was a solid 5-10 min wait most times.

Room was really clean and all the the staff I encountered were really friendly and accommodating.

I liked the casino, wish it had a poker room and they seem pretty generous with rewards as I've already seen multiple offers for a free stay.

How did you facilitate getting the resort fee comped based on play ? Did you go and ask at the players club desk ?

Seems I play quite a bit but getting the resort fee's comped is always a difficulty. Starting to get a lot more free room offers though, how much were you playing ?

dont go to the palyers club desk or thefront desk to ask about the resort fee, go to a host stand in the casino. Usually near or in the high limit room depending on wher eyou are staying

Yup on the last day of my trip I met with a host and had a net loss of about 2500 between slots, blackjack, and roulette. They comped the resort fees and about 400$ worth of food and room charges.

Always nice to lose at the hotel ur staying and and win somewhere else. So made out this trip real good.

For the record they don't care about how much you lost, they care about how much you play. And resort fees are still BS because the comps you got that covered those likely would have just been applied to something else instead, assuming you weren't fully comped.

Room wasn't comped, had never stayed at SLS before, booked thru 3rd party so they couldn't comp it but promised next visits would be.

I always though it was about the play thru $ amount but the host spoke about the loss. Prob cycled through 30-40k

youre comped on Average Daily Theoretical loss (ADT)

Amount bet X house edge x time played

most casinos will comp around 1/3-1/4 of your ADT. They effing love slot players since the hold is a set amount and they just keep their 20% or whatever.

eta: if you plunk down a players card and lose $2500 on 1 spin of roulette they will not give a **** about you, even though you lost $2500

Yeah I play a lot of slots admittedly. They are super fun when I'm hammered and mindless entertainment. I'm def down a ton tho on them but it's money I don't mind losing most of the time.

Since I rarely play house games I am oblivious to this, but how do they track your play if let's say your playing blackjack? I know you give them your players card when you sit down, but do they track every player that sits?

It's more like 6 or 7%. Craps is about 14%, it's crazy. It doesn't seem possible given the odds of the various bets, but that's what the Gaming report said.

Most places do try to keep track of the length of time you played and your average bet. Obviously not an exact science though, and some people have been known try to trick them by betting bigger while the pit boss is watching and lower when not.

Also tipping the dealers always helps get a favorable rating, as well as asking the pit before you leave (or mod session) "hey what do you have me down for?"

Never argue, but I'd say 50% if I question (right or wrong) they'll bump me up to the high side of my range

Yeah whenever I ask how much they have me down for I'm always surprised how high it is, since I am typically betting lower. I assume it's my shining personality and exemplary etiquette.

Yeh we want to avoid the WSOP even though we're gonna be predominately playing poker. Spring break might be a fun time and worth the extra $$

Stayed at Caesars last year and wife and I want to do a similar trip. Though we're trying to save where we can due to the dollar (starting with Spirit flights lol)

We're thinking of doing a Monday-Thursday in early or late May. (we don't care about being there over a weekend) After being there once, we now know what's walkable etc. and we'd liked to stay basically between the MGM and the Mirage.

Aside from Caesars and the out-of-budget 5 star Hotels, I remember the Mirage catching my eye as somewhere I'd like to stay. However, looking up prices, I'm leaning towards Monte Carlo.

From what I can see Mirage has $33 resort fees whereas Mirage has none?? Has anyone had luck with the $20 trick waving resort fees at either? How about the Pool situation at both? Any others I should consider? Any construction I should be aware of?

Both have resort fees. $20 trick got me nowhere at the Mirage last year, but lolvariance. Monte Carlo doesn't have WiFi in rooms iirc, dunno if that matters to you.

I really liked the Mirage , although the basic room was nothing super special.

Thanks Bloo

I'm now leaning Ballys. It's disgusting how cheap my trip keeps getting.

$205 CAD round trip flights from Detroit, $80/night CAD at Ballys (May 2 - 5)

Ballys better location than MC, and sounds nicer
spend rest on gambling. ez game?

Looks like from the $20 trick thread that Ballys is the nuts too - and I may have read something about no resort fee? And that they've underwent renovations?

Seems like a snap call to me

So I canceled planet hollywood and booked at Caesars since there are going to be 3 guys, and we wanted two queens and a full couch. Finding a room with those requirements was not easy or obvious, but the Laurel Premium rooms at Caesars has a two queen option with a full couch.

Booking through total rewards (tier score is 0 because I have not played/stayed anywhere in last 6 months...but never was high anyways d/t primarily playing poker), the Laurel premium two queens room came out to $900 for 3 nights ($300 a night) for a Wed, Thu, and Fri night.

Split 3 ways, it is $100 per person, which is fine for us.

Goal was not to save money; rather, we did not want to leave the third guy out of the room to fend for himself.

Any other suggestions/feedback? I can always cancel with no penalty.

What's wrong with sharing beds?
In Vegas everyone gets so drunk u only need a bed to pass out for few hours.

We just got back from NOLA. 10 guys over 5 rooms (10 beds) we could have made due with 4 beds. No one ever slept at the same time. Might be different with only 3, but being me if I had to sleep and both beds were taken id just ask for a pillow and comforter from each and sleep on the fllor.

all that being said $300 per night doesnt seem bad when you compare to other options. I know the cosmo usually has a couch with a pull out bed in the upper tier rooms, but no idea on the standard rooms. iirc there is a 1 bedroom terrace room with two beds and a couch id look in to because I ****ing hate Caesars and everyone in it

Bally's has resort fee. Pretty sure every place on the strip does now.

I think you're paying too much for a (mostly) midweek stay, which is what happens when you book Caesars (the most overpriced place in Vegas). You can get 2Q with a couch any number of places, including Venetian/Palazzo and it shouldn't cost as much. They're also better rooms. Best I can tell is that the Laurel Collection rooms are just standard rooms in their Augustus and Octavius towers, which are the nicer ones but are still inferior to a handful of other places in town.
