I plan on staying at Holiday Royal for $285/week. Staying for at least 2 weeks and that comes out to be around $40/night. They also ask for a $250 security deposit, but obviously it's refunded after you leave. It's like a private studio apartment and the option I'm getting (the cheapest) is very basic (coach, bed, fridge/microwave), but they have upgraded options with a full kitchen for a bit more. Anyone have any ideas on anything cheaper than that? Not interested in staying in a hostel, but as long as I have a bed don't mind roommates. I plan on playing 3 events (all around $1k buy-ins) and grinding cash, so not sure what comps, if any, could be available either.

Surprised something that rhymes with funnels hasn't been mentioned yet.

I don't know the quality of Holiday Royal but I met someone last year during the WSOP who was staying at the Extended Stay on Valley View for ~$45/night. He seemed to enjoy it. It's walking distance to the Rio if you don't have a car.

My guess is you'll have plenty of roommates, all of them with more legs than you.

If this is the place I'm thinking of, "running distance" is more apt, especially at 2 or 3 am after you're done playing.

Yea, one night about 7 years ago a friend and I decided lets get some tacos from the taco truck by that strip club near Chinatown and that hotel. I think it's called Tacos La Carreta.

Walk there is fine, tacos great. Then some dude comes running past us bleeding everywhere. 90 seconds later 3 guys are running trying to catch up to him. Took a cab back to avoid being involved in a murder case.

Last year I got an AirBnB for ~$44/night for 12 nights.

It was a spare bedroom in a 2 BR townhouse apartment, located just off Las Vegas Blvd kinda near the Arts district

Might stay there again this year.

I stayed at the HR for 6+ weeks in the fall.

Actually surprised by overall cleanliness of the place, though I did take some precautions. Flip flops, a good bleaching, and abandoned the sheets I brought.

I probably faded at least 3 robberies walking to and from the strip. I'm 6'4", 245+ and look like a homeless person so ymmv.

Could not fade the dispensary or dunkin donuts. Gained a bunch of weight and felt like crap by the time I got home.

Heading back on the 5th for a couple of months and plan on trying a few other budget places. I'll let you know...

Well there is the UNLV Rec Center about 3 blocks away that's open to the community for pretty cheap rates. Maybe instead of donuts after a visit to The Grove go for a swim lol. I'll probably get a bus ticket - i get half rates as a vet so it's pretty cheap. Wouldn't mind the walk but not trying to walk the streets of vegas at night with thousands in my pocket

Javon Walker? It was a couple blocks from the Holiday Royale at the Meridian. About a block from where the High Roller is now.

Yeah UNLV is part of my plans for this trip. Gonna take part in some of their wilderness programs and hopefully use the facilities some.

FWIW, the taxi to MGM was less than $10. I usually just walked or took the monorail from there.

Not that I think it’s a good idea but $285 for the week is going to be *really* hard to beat. I’d stop looking and instead think about the poor life decisions that have led you to $285.

Some of you little fokkers need to give up the weed so you can make something of yourselves and have the money to have a proper trip out here. When y’all come out here like this with the disgusting hotels, you *are* the dead money that keeps the tournaments alive.

..... troll on full blast.

"poor life decisions"
"little fokkers"
"weed ... make something of yourselves"
"the disgusting hotels"

Come on people, be baller like GJ, carpool to the poker rooms to save money from some rental unit on the west side because that's how you ballers should learn to roll.

Positive advice for today, buy a bus pass and use it on the Strip and to/from Downtown for those days when you're not in action during the WSOP.

Positive advice for foreign players coming to the US, load up a Starbucks card back home, it can be used here and the exchange rate is favorable. There has been a Starbucks near the WSOP inside the Rio in past years.

Also, weed IS legal here, but you need cash in USD, you can buy edibles which are discrete and pretty well "calibrated" for the desired effect, but smoking/using is prohibited in casinos.

I gave Gentlemanjack three days off. It's probably my first ban outside of first post spam in many years.

For some reason this reminds me that I need to clean out the chicken coop before I head to Vegas next week.

How many extended stay places are even considered decent/safe in vegas nowadays? I know back like 8 years ago, people talked about holiday royale and blair house suites and extended stay deluxe etc. Also i believe extended stay deluxe offers you a discount rate if you stay more than 1 month and do monthly... but thats probably around at least 1400/month still right?

But now there is no more blair house suites as i heard this a while back.

To someone that says its hard to beat 285/week, well that comes to around 1140 a month. But couldn't someone rent a room in a house short term as in monthly for around 600-700 or is that way too hard now? Are there people renting basements fully furnished for like 850 and under in vegas where you could get to the strip by bus? Also renting in vegas now compared to like 8 years ago, the price difference is much bigger right? I recalled back then you could rent a 2 bdr place for like 900 or so and that was okay area. Or is my information wrong here.

What about Hostel Cat? $13/night for a dorm room. It says something about a "travel requirement" though so they might refuse Americans. Not sure if/how that is legal though.
