Ben Affleck banned from blackjack table at Hard Rock Las Vegas after being caught counting cards:

The forthcoming 'Batman' star was approached by a security guard Monday night at the casino's high-roller's blackjack table, a source told the Daily News. Casino management ordered a car to take Affleck and wife Jennifer Garner back to their hotel, the source said.

Ben Affleck wasn’t counting on this.

Hard Rock Las Vegas officials aren’t bluffing as they have banned the forthcoming “Batman” star for life from playing blackjack at the casino after he was caught counting cards, a source close to Affleck told the Daily News.

“You are too good,” a security guard told the Oscar-winning star Monday night at the casino’s high-rollers’ blackjack table, the source said.

Translation: no more blackjack for Affleck. However, he’s welcome to try his hand at other games at the Hard Rock.

Affleck and actress wife Jennifer Garner were in Sin City for a romantic getaway before Affleck starts filming his “Batman” reboot in Los Angeles and Detroit.

I'm glad to see that he learned to do it well enough to disturb the HR. I wish I could be the guy to teach MJ to count... a little $1k - $10k spread at Aria S17 DD.

And I thought they were just on vacation when I saw them at Aria. Ben was putting in work! Nice job by him. Now he just needs to learn how to do it undetected.

I guess he could of bet more than table min when the count was bad, and occasionally split 10s against a dealer 5 just to act like he was sort of clueless.

But perhaps, that's just the kind of bad acting by actors that begets this:

I read this story yesterday on TMZ (reliable?) where they said that he had won 800k in BJ a couple years back, also at the Hard Rock. Wonder if he still would have got the lifetime ban if he hadn't won that before.

pretty sure if you nick a casino for 800k (if that is true) they are going to watch you like a fat guy stares at the buffet.

FWIW, back in the 80's I got booted from Circus Circus when I bet $50 after being a $5 player at single deck BJ.

Dealer turns to suit and said 'checks play' which is code for something is up. Pit boss racked up my $140 and sent me packing.

I later learned that if you are tipping, the dealers don't say squat.

What's a reasonable tip on a BJ table, anyway?

Only if he explains it in percentage of units. But after my experience at single deck of the dealer stepping up the shuffle from every 3 to every 2 and then every 1 for a few hands, I'd like to find a way of that not happening again.

This is just my rule of thumb but I tend to tip table dealers one half of one bet for every 4 bets i am up. So betting 10 dollars a hand if i get up 40 i will tip 5. If I have been playing for awhile and am still around even when the dealer moves or goes on break, if I was happy with their performance, I'll tip half a bet. I don't know if this is cheap or generous but I have never felt that the dealer was unsatisfied.

edit: I don't know if I would be able to follow this rule at higher stakes, I realize its the same percentage but if I was betting 1k a hand, I dont know if I could bring myself to tip 500 every time I was up four bets.

Didn't he give away all his 800k winnings to the staff in tips?

it's amazing what happens to the house edge on tables where the house stands on a soft 17...

Around $0. So hard to tip in pit games where they are sharing tips. If you tip $5 to a particular dealer, he will see around 5cents of that. There are some rude and/or ****ty dealers out there and are getting an equal share.

1 chip of your stack (majority color) is good in my opinion.

eg: Stack of red $100, tip $5
Stack of green, $500, tip $25
Stack of black, $2000, tip $100
Stack of purple, $10K, tip $500

I usually ask the dealer if they want me to play for them with the tip$. Some say yes because they are degen as well or some just say no.

If u r a perfessional 21 player as a rule of thumb u do not tip.

period

end of story

Tipping buys u nothing - at a sweat shop like circus if you are betting out 5 a hand then suddenly crank out 50 they are told to say checks play...it does not matter if you put 10$ outfor the dealer along with that bet...he would still make the same announcement.

BTW if you are playing a standard count your largest edge is going to be about 5% (ya it can get higher in single deck blah blah blah) but in general 5% is where you top out. so if you crank out 50 and put out 2.5 bux for the dealer what is your ev for the hand?

Agree, except that tipping might disguise your play. Dealers will get in trouble if they don't say "checks play" when you bet with a larger than usual chip (say $25 chip at a $5 min table. Doesn't matter if you tip.
