Subtitled videos? Subtitled videos?

05-26-2008 , 08:29 PM
Hi,

Just like every other poker player, I am always striving to improve in every possible way I can and to learn from other players. Coaching videos seem to be very popular with cardunners being very prominent in that area.

I am now interested in watching a few videos, I have briefly checked out your site but there is no mention of the availability of subtitled videos. Being a deaf person, this is essential for me. Can someone from Cardrunners please shed some light on this?

Many thanks,

G.I.T

We don't have subtitles in our videos, right now, but it is an interesting idea and we'll look into it.

To be frankly honest, it is very disappointing- and personaly fustrating- that a company of cardrunner's size does not provide subtitled videos. I would like to see this service being made available in future but in the meantime the custom of deaf players could be realised by another company and cardrunners will have lost potential amount of substantial income.

Thanks for your reply.

Get,

At the moment, we don't have subtitles for our videos. I will say that Stoxpoker has subtitles on many of their videos so you might consider checking them out.

Lol, yeah, good luck finding someone who'll type out everything Caby says in his videos, you'd end up with a book at the end of every session and carpal tunnel syndrome.

Unfortunately, I think it would take a lot of man power to go through 800+ videos and for each one of them, write up a transcript, then re-edit every one of them with a subtitle feed. I'm guesstimating probably one person working full time for an entire year at the least.

I'm not asking DC to re-edit the current videos. I m asking if DC could release future videos with optional subtitles.. I can't understand how a rival company in Stoxpoker, which is not as big CR, can release videos with subtitles with videos when CR, SUPPOSEDLY the best and biggest site for coaching vids just quite frankly cant be arsed.

I'm not going to even explain how tilted this has me, cos I wouldnt be able to do with without expletives.

Congratulations on being so succesful in your achievement to provide videos for those who can only hear and understand english, in turn giving your subscribers an edge over ppl who cant. Give yourselves a pat on the back y'all.

if he's only asking that you try to release future videos with subtitles, it really shouldn't be that hard.

there's a voice recognition typing software available called Dragon Naturally Speaking...the pros could conceivably use it as they record the commentary, which should at least take care of the transcription side of things. from there i'm not sure how much more work it would take, nor do i know how many deaf people would benefit from this suggestion, but I can understand OP's frustration. well, not exactly, but you know what i mean...

Subbing+timing an episode from a professional service would cost around $500/video minimum if outsourced to a subbing company.

If done inhouse it could be done a lot cheaper obv.

Subtitles would also be very helpfull for a lot of non-english speaking poker players. imo.
