I havent done pullups in a long time because I seem to mess up my neck or elbows or shoulders when I do a lot of them, and since I do a lot of different kinds of rows and other back work, I dont think laying off pullups has negatively affected anything I'm doing. So I think you can go without them if you want to.
That being said, I do think pullups are useful if you can do them without breaking yourself, lol. I dont have a strong opinion on GTG or other pullup programming. Busto or FB or one of the other strong pullup guys probably has some good advice on that subject.
