Saw a guy working out with a golf glove on. I was trying to decide if it was weirder to lift with one golf glove on or two.

I saw a dude bench around a while then strip to his black wifebeater and take teenage-girl-style selfshots of himself in the gym's mirrors. On the somewhat crowded gym-floor, not in the bathroom or anything; clearly he had no compunctions or reservations about it.

Also a while back I saw a huge, simian dude do a three or four plate box squat (not sure exactly, but he was of the bro-school that admits only 45lbs plates on a bar, and I think he went back after doing three plates). Depth was pretty good, I think. Afterward, however, he started unloading one side of the bar and told his training partner to finish up while he prepped the leg press (read: gathered every nearby 45lbs plate not in use or nailed down). While I was working out it in my head, the bar went tits up. I had my back to it but could hear it come crashing down. Thankfully, he didn't use collars on the other side, so when the weights fell they stripped to the end and held the bar up (the cage is right next to a window and a mirror, either of which I think might have been smashed if the bar had taken to lolling about). Really didn't help the stereotype imo.

Edit: thinking about it more now, I'm not sure how the bar actually made it out of the cage, but I'm pretty sure it did. Huh.

As I was walking into the gym two guys were walking out. Both Indian looking, one was super tall and skinny, like 6'5 and looked like a scarecrow, with what I'm assuming was a younger brother or friend, much shorter but also skinny.

Tall one: "That was a good workout, you pretty tired?"
Other one: "Meh... my left arm is."

Short guy, about 5'3", big chest and arms, has his girlfriend accompanying him to the free weights section. He proceeds to blab all of his work-out strategy to her: "I'm doing bench now -- this is to confuse the muscles so that when do cable rows, the pecs dialate and scraddafraddatz my shibbidy-widget..." Whatever... On and on he goes about protein powder, correct hydration during work-out, etc... All the while, she's sitting there with a bored expression texting away... ( Was this his idea of a date? )

One classic he offered: "You know, people at work think I weight 125! But people in the gym think I weigh 165! This is because of all the weight I can lift! Hey, ( bothered by her inattentive texting ) -- I'm going to be doing more lifts in a minute! ( as though this will be new and exciting )"

After the "work vs gym weight guessing remark" -- I thought to myself: "How tall do they think you are at work?"

Trolled a huge power lifter today really hard. Guy looked like a college linebacker or something. He was super setting T-bar rows with I don't know what on the power rack. I asked him if he's using the rack, since he was resting after his T-bar row set near the rack, but there was no weight on it. He said yeah he's using it and asked me what I wanted to do. I told him I wanted to do curls and he gave me one of these:

not being sarcastic -- i'm confused. how did you know he was supersetting if there was no weight on the rack? and/or how in the world was he using the rack with no weight on it??

also -- i missed the meaning of "Trolled" in the first sentence. could you explain? "watching"? "intending to bother"?

thanks.

At the baseball field today, watching one of my clients play a game against the best team in the district. (Their #1 pitcher was drafted in the supplemental round this year and they had two other draftees.)

This kid weighed 150 at the beginning of the year. He now weighs 180. He can DL 430. Does tons of chins and pretty much all the stuff I put him through.

He hit a bomb today and has been lining tons of doubles all over the field after getting much stronger and changing his hitting approach (looking to pull a lot more). A few parents asked me: "What has he done?!"

"Drink a gallon of whole milk per day. Squat. Deadlift."
"Sounds like too much. I dunno about that..."

It's not ****ing rocket science you idiots. He is much, much stronger and works hard in the cages. End result? He is a much better hitter and has very high bat speed now. And you wonder why your kid is garbage and doesn't improve on his school-mandated high-rep bulgarian split squat Bruiser-style program.

the skinny dude(one of many ldo) who works at starbucks asked me how to get bigger, and since i get free starbucks every day, i figured i owed him an explanation. i told him about SS, lifting heavy, total body exercises for sets of 5-8 etc, and GOMAD. he was surprisingly receptive and was like, "wow yeah, that makes total sense, thanks bro."

I'm working out this afternoon in my gym (which is very small)... it is just me, Girl On Phone (GOP), and a random 3rd girl who has her headphones on. Girl on phone is chatting away on her phone (loudly) for a good 10-15 minutes until I go up to her:

Me: Excuse me, would you mind putting your phone down?
GOP: What?
Me: Would you mind putting your phone away?
GOP: WHY?!
Me: It's annoying, and you're not really supposed to be on the phone in the gym.
GOP: Since when?!
Me: Look, I can't make you put your phone down, but I would appreciate it.
GOP: Well... (obviously considering telling me off) I'll put it away in a few minutes.

She then changed course to whispering into the phone, which I thought was pretty lol.

I wasn't out of line with this, right?
