Even though I'm new to the franchise, I really liked the Day of the Doctor. If that's par for the course, I'll have to go back and check out some of the classic episodes.

Edit: also, can anyone explain the fez thing? I get what's going on with the scarf, but not the fez.

Beginner Doctor Who fan here.

When I was a kid I watched a couple episodes of the fourth doctor and didn't really get into it. Now, my 11yo daughter has become a big Dr. Who fan and I'm joining her. I've seen a couple of the ninth doctor, but didn't really get hooked until the eleventh doctor (skipping lots of episodes). I'm not in a position to really compare doctors, it's more that I just saw enough episodes to get into the characters and story arc.

I think my daughter's favorite doctor is the 9th, but her favorite companion is Amy. Amy is awesome, though my daughter obviously can't fully appreciate that.

Anyway, mostly hi, but I do have one question. I'm getting to a point in the story where a lot of things might be getting explained. Is there really anything important from earlier seasons/doctors that carries over into the story with the 11th doctor?

Spoiler:
I mean things specifically about Amy's baby, doctor getting killed(?), The Silence, and The Flesh.

i went back and watched the 6 seasons of the new era that are posted on Netflix. Took about 5 weeks, maybe less.

It's interesting that watching them the first time I really favored the Doctors in order. Eccleston > Tenant > Smith. Going back through the seasons I clearly favor the latest Doctor, and yet I know its unfair as each Doctor has its own personable traits that the actor must push.

Rewatching was still fun, especially later half of season four (Human Nature++) and season 6 which probably have the best episodes of the entire - new era - series. There were spots though that my brain interfered with my entertainment value. Example being later seasons vs the Darleks why couldn't someone defeat them the way Rose did. Few spots like that. But in doing so would limit us from fresh content story lines. Hopefully we get introduced to new villains in the future rather than rehash the handful we've gotten over and over.

Watched most of it, I have not watched Dr Who since Tom Baker. Thought it was ok - I only watched cause I love Malcolm Tucker. Kinda disapointed I didnt get to see a Malcolmesque rant (yes, I realise it is an actor.)

Not sure it did enough to hook me into ep 2.

Yeah, it wasn't great great, but it was pretty good. I liked the horror-story-esque vibe and the philosophical stuff between Clara and the other ladies.

Interesting new start credits. Time Bandits vibe.

Looking forward to next episode though, with the daleks.

As someone who's only seen like four Dr. Who episodes, I didn't care for this one. Felt like I was watching an awkward breakup between Clara and the Doctor. Will give the next episode a try.

I'm not watching the new until I catch up - probably until it comes to Netflix.

But, with no spoilers, how's the new doctor? */10 is fine.

The new Doctor is kooky and awesome just like all the others. Glorious return to the old-guy doctors.

Good doctor, odd material that was a little mawkish and didn't suit his character. Want to see a few more before I score.

I'm really really really trying to like Peter Capaldi but so far his episodes been pretty average. Idk, I've heard that Moffit is trying to make him come off unsure of himself, just feels like he hast hit his stride yet tho. I'll watch every episode of his tho even if I don't feel it gets better, but such is the typical obsession of your average DW fan that's slightly obsessed!

Having seen how animated Capaldi can be, I've got no doubt that once he hits his stride he'll nail it, he's just got to hit that stride first!

Fwiw I'm a new era DW fan, haven't seen barely any old DW, I will one day start the massive journey through all of the old stuff! I don't think any doctor will ever top Tennant for me, he's magic in his last three episodes. When he saves the fixed point lady from Waters of Mars and she undoes his work (won't say how cause I don't want to spoil that moment for people that haven't seen it) and he realizes he's screwed up, I'll probably shed a tear even after a hundred rewatches. Not to mention the water works when Wildred shatters Tennants relief.

Disclaimer: I have a 2 week old baby and a 3.5yo daughter, the combo of which doesn't allow for an uninterrupted viewing is DW at it 7:30pm time slot. The one Capaldi episode I did get to see uninterrupted though I really enjoyed.

On Capaldi's season. It was up and down, there were elements of mawkishness and oversentimentality that grated (as they did in Tennant's and Smith's reign), but I do like Capaldi's mix of scary curmudgeon-ness and twinkle in the eye comments delivered as if he doesn't really know he's saying it.

Best episodes were Into The Dalek, Robot of Sherwood Forest, The Mummy on the Orient Express, the one with London in a forest, and the final two.

Not a fan of Clara, though she's growing on me. Danny Pink, I like.

I think, written right, we may see one of the greatest seasons of Who ever in the next series.

And Missy, even for her short appearance, is the best villain since Davros. "Scary Poppins", if you will. If she makes future appearances, she may become the greatest Who named villain ever. Missy and the Doctor have something about them akin to Joker and the Batman.

I just got through what's on NetFlix, which goes to the intro of Capaldi.

Gonna be a lot different with this old guy. He needs to get a hot(ish?) 40yo companion to flirt with.

Spoiler on Jenna Coleman.

Spoiler:
Supposedly she was leaving in the Christmas special and Clara would be shown passing away as an old lady with the Doctor at her side. Now Coleman is supposedly sticking around for the first half of the next season.

At first I loved Clara. Now I'm extremely bored of Clara. Her character has run its course.

At first I disliked the new Doctor. Now I love the new Doctor. Breath of fresh air imo.

Going to make a closet door look like the exterior of the TARDIS and was wondering if anyone knew a source for wallpaper of the TARDIS' interior I could use to line the closet with.

Christmas Special is tomorrow.

52nd Birthday!

I continue to laugh like drains when other TV shows claim they are the longest running on TV...

It will probably be a while before that decision is made...Chris Chibnall has indicated that he won't work on that until he finishes his current project and can work on DW full time. I'd expect an announcement sometime in the Fall.

I've got a Doctor Who poll style game over in POG. Short and, hopefully, simple; definitely easy. A few Whovians entering would be great. Click here.
