MT spoke at my highschool graduation as like a motivational speaker for what you can do with your life. He's basically my hero.

(his niece or something was in my graduating class, so we got hookups)

Commenting by spiting out phrases you heard on a cable news talking-head filled program three days ago is laughable. What business are you in, professional spewing of stupidity?

This is simply epic.
lol. i think everyone just levels me on this forum now. i think i might walk away from it and all the trolls within.

i've never seen the cable program you're talking about. i know nothing about anything broadcasted about mike 3 days ago, let alone 3 years ago. i grew up on him; my dad was a golden-gloves boxer.

what are you arguing? mike tyson wasn't a great boxer? mike tyson wasn't unfortunate to grow up in complete poverty, without either of his parents? imagine the impact on his life when his trainer--who became his legal guardian--died...he ****ed up. you haven't ****ed up? maybe not to the extent of rape...but let's be honest, you probably aren't strong enough to rape the average-sized woman.

the kid came from nothing, and little snot-noses like you sit at the computer and spew insults about him. it troubles you to know that people liked him?

the man's life was a trainwreck and, for nearly his entire upbringing, to no fault of his own. but yeah, what a black animal he was, huh?

I'll give you that MT was a great fighter at one time. But his upbringing doesn't excuse his total lack of civility or crimes later on in life.

Rakinem a prime Ali would have retired a prime Tyson.

And hes not the only one either why do you think Tyson got ranked number 50 on the ring magazines top 50 fighters.

I love 80's fan boys, so here are 10+ in no particular order of greatness:

Joe Louis
Larry Holmes
Jack Johnson
Jack Dempsey
George Foreman
Ezzard Charles
Sonny Liston
Joe Frazier
Evander Holyfield
Muhammad Ali
Gene Tunney

Tyson isn't even a top 10 heavyweight all time.

All 10 of these guys in their primes beat Tyson silly 99 times out of 100. George and Sonny KO him (as Holy did). Ali makes him quit in frustration (or bite again in lieu of quitting) and Louis and Johnson show him what its like to be a truly despised black heavyweight champ on their way to defeating him. Go and watch the tape of a 40 year old Larry Holmes stick it to a prime Tyson before getting caught in round 4. Prime Larry gets caught (maybe) and gets up and boxes mike to death (Larry was ahead on every card prior to being caught even at 40 years of age).

Lennox Lewis who annihilated the old worn down non training Tyson dosent even make to likely top 10 to beat him list. If Mike was to win any of these fights he has to hit every one of these guys with his best KO punch and pray that they dont get up. Seeing as he couldn't do it to the likes of Bonecrusher Smith, James Tillis and Mitch Green in his prime I don't like his chances with these guys.

Tyson was an exciting, young KO artist who had an interesting back story. But at the end of the day he was nothing more than a scared bully. The first time a bully gets hit back they usually go to water (the terrible but not scared Buster Dougles anyone?). He is maybe top 15 in his prime but lets not get carried away.

1. what experience do you speak from?
2. from where did you gather this knowledge?
take a five-minute break...
3. did you google any information within 30 mins of making this post?

Serious reply:
I know about Black Jack Johnson and I've got a poster of Liston on his back.
I know about Marciano and Marvelous Marvin Hagler too. White people love these old guys. Jack Dempsey. My uncles talk about them while they get hammered at Christmas, then start punching through drywall.

Soo thanks for the list, Teddy Atlas.

In terms of boxing skills, there were a lot of more technically sound heavyweights. In terms of athletic prowess, there were none. I was a huge fan of Roy Jones Jr. too, fwiw. I like this type of athlete across all sports. They're the most difficult to relate to, so they usually get the least supportive following--and there'll always be naysayers, denying their abilities--but also seem to change their respective sport in the most significant ways.
