idk about that. he's a useful plan C, works his bollocks off and probably only costs about 40k/year plus unlimited pork scratchings

It's July 5th and Spurs have done exactly zero transfer business this summer. Still rumours of the fullbacks wanting to head back to The North. I think Trippier is potentially good enough anyway especially with KWP rumoured to be just about ready. Don't think Davies is there though.

Would like to see us offload Sissoko obv and replace with a better version.

The new Chris Wreh. In all seriousness it's probably a good signing. He's another one of those who deserves a crack at a big club.

Getting this ready for prime langering.

If spurs need to tighten their belts because of stadium payment or whatever this seems like an ideal time to do it. Squad they've got has shown they can hit 80+ pts and there isn't much gettable that will improve them much. Obv heavy relying on Kane playing 30+ games +cl is a little uncomfortable.

Losing only Walker but otherwise sitting would hardly be a disaster.

Of course, they likely won't repeat their pts tally of last year and then a lack of summer activity will be blamed by fat blokes everywhere when really it will just be variance

Any regression will be blamed on playing home games at Wembley before anything else.

As you say, the lack of transfer activity is primarily down to an inability to lure the kind of players who can make a discernable difference to the team, but in addition the core squad/team is so firmly set, signing squad players is difficult too as they realize first team opportunities will be hard to come by.

I was browsing the bbc and came across this article about a 19yo arsenal youth player moving to Benfica who has been with the club since 2003. Are prem clubs really talent spotting 5yos these days?

I think he's a great signing for Arsenal in that he is almost the best player they could possibly realistically have signed in that position where they desperately needed a player. That said he is not some sort of crazy bargain. That's a club record fee for a player from the French league who hasn't done it internationally yet and only started scoring in Europe last season despite being 26 years old. What would be a fair price? £80m?

It won't only be variance, it will be regression to the mean combined with other teams improving as well.

Disagree think laca is a mediocre signing . Complete copout. Anyone who's goal tally is buoyed by pens has bust potential. Don't think are gets 4th without dumping another 100m and keeps Sanchez / ozil.

Maybe I'm just salty this could have been done 3 years ago for half as much probably.

He scored 37 goals last year with like 10 pens or something, numbers are still pretty good.

Besides, having an actually competent penalty taker is ok by me

Of all the things to be critical of Lacazette, scoring a ton of penalty goals is a strange one.

As others have noted, there just aren't a ton of world class strikers up for grabs, and the few who are would be pretty tough for Arsenal to pull off. I'm thrilled to finally have a striker who should be in the prime of his career for ~53m.

Had a look at Lacazette's penalty numbers for the last 4 years and how his stats look with/without them. This is all comps:

13/14 - 54p, 22g, 0 pens
14/15 - 41p, 31g, 10 pens
15/16 - 44p, 23g, 2 pens
16/17 - 45p, 37g, 11 pens

So he's scored 20+ goals for four seasons in a row excluding penalties.

They aren't buying him just for goals. Giroud is better than him at that already. It's the other attributes he brings and how he will combine with the other players in the squad and suit their playstyle.

Fwiw club options typically have a buyout option/decline fee so it's not a complete freeroll

As I said in my original post, im probably salty this deal wasn't done in prior years. Like why waste money on Lucas Perez when we could have spent 40m less on lacazette last year, or perhaps even less the year before. Something like 30m+ wasted by waiting.
