As a few of you know I've recently gone from live to nNL online poker, which is helping identify leaks in my game.

One common trend which is bugging the heck out of me is that I'm winning small pots without a showdown, IP and OOP. I'm losing big pots when it gets to showdown. So when I look at my overall graphs, it is flipped upside down - red line increasing, blue and green decreasing. I'm looking for some general advice to recognize the root cause of getting it in when I have the worst of it.

Over a 3500 hand sample I'm playing 25 VPIP /18 PFR /37 AG (I am consciously striving to lower VPIP especially in BB, increase PFR - so I do recognize that.)

To give an example of small pots & big pot scenarios, see below:

Big pot loss -

WPN, $0.01/$0.02 No Limit Hold'em Cash, 6 Players
Poker Tools Powered By Holdem Manager - The Ultimate Poker Software Suite.

    Hero (SB): $1.98 (99 bb)
    BB: $3.86 (193 bb)
    UTG: $2.31 (115.5 bb)
    MP: $2 (100 bb)
    CO: $3.18 (159 bb)
    BTN: $3.23 (161.5 bb)

Preflop: Hero is SB with T T
2 folds, CO raises to $0.06, BTN folds, Hero raises to $0.14, BB folds, CO calls $0.08

    Flop: ($0.30) 6 J 5 (2 players)
    Hero checks, CO checks

    Turn: ($0.30) 4 (2 players)
Hero bets $0.14, CO calls $0.14

    River: ($0.58) 2 (2 players)
Hero bets $0.18, CO raises to $0.90, Hero calls $0.72

    Results: $2.38 pot ($0.11 rake)
    Final Board: 6 J 5 4 2
Hero mucked T T and lost (-$1.18 net)
    CO showed A 9 and won $2.27 ($1.09 net)

    Small pot win -

WPN, $0.01/$0.02 No Limit Hold'em Cash, 6 Players
Poker Tools Powered By Holdem Manager - The Ultimate Poker Software Suite.

      Hero (SB): $5.44 (272 bb)
      BB: $1.90 (95 bb)
      UTG: $2.01 (100.5 bb)
      MP: $3.18 (159 bb)
      CO: $2.50 (125 bb)
      BTN: $2.24 (112 bb)

Preflop: Hero is SB with K K
2 folds, CO calls $0.02, BTN folds, Hero raises to $0.06, BB calls $0.04, CO calls $0.04

      Flop: ($0.18) 5 2 3 (3 players)
Hero checks, BB checks, CO checks

      Turn: ($0.18) Q (3 players)
Hero bets $0.09, BB calls $0.09, CO folds

      River: ($0.36) 2 (2 players)
      Hero bets $0.11, BB folds

      Results: $0.36 pot ($0.01 rake)
      Final Board: 5 2 3 Q 2
      Hero mucked K K and won $0.35 ($0.20 net)
BB mucked and lost (-$0.15 net)

So, with those examples, I'm looking to improve losing less and winning more Any basic ideas?

      3b larger in both spots.

But, the issue is likely you are calling too much and value betting/bluffing too much/thinly

H1: 3b to 20c and flop and go either bet or check. The reason for betting is you still get called by worse hands (77/88/99/6x/78s/A5s/A6s) etc. and fold out equity hands like AXs, KQ, maybe AQ which has it's own benefits since these prolly x-behind a lot. As played betting turn is fine, but I'd just check river. Once you get raised there it's an easy fold (over-calling, betting too much @ otr)

H2: Again you need to raise more. 10c or 5bb here would be good since its fish, we're oop and he's limped. Checking flop is absolutely horrible @ 2nl. Just bet and fold to a re-raise (a limp/call range can include a lot of low pp 22-55 hands). Again, mash the pot button ott and go much bigger otr as well.

      Hand 1:

3bet sizing is too small. Go two or three bbs bigger. Flop check is ok, but betting is ok too. As played, it's unlikely villain has a Jack when he checks back, so you can bet the turn a bit bigger.

The river can't be a bet-call. I don't hate betting 1/3rd pot as you did - you can get looked up by worse pocket pairs and hands like AQ. But once you get raised, you need to fold. You can check-call a reasonable-sized bet.

      Hand 2:

You absolutely have to bet this flop. Every pocket pair is calling, as is every single Ax, and flush draws. There's a ton of value to be had that you miss when you check. Then bet turn and river bigger too.

I think you should be betting the flop on hand 1. If you don't c-bet that flop, what flops are you c-betting after you 3-bet preflop? Also, the river is a clear fold for me. I don't think he has any more bluffs in his range at that point. A check-call is better a bet-call on that river. (a check on that river looks like you're scared of the flush, so it actually induces more bluff range from villain. I'm not saying you should call if you check and he bets. You may consider check-folding. But a check-call is better than a bet-call, because when you bet and get raised, there just isn't much chance at that point that he is running a bluff when you aren't capped and could easily have a flush there yourself.)

Like others have said you should be 3-betting a higher amount in both hands, particularly hand 1. Oh wow I missed it before, but you should definitely be betting the flop on hand 2. And you should bet more than you did on the turn. Bet like 2/3 of the pot, since it is such a wet board and you can get Qx to call and get some draws to call. I would also bet more on the river, or check call if you think they missed their draws. You're targeting Qx with a value-bet on the river.

The KK hand seems fine to be, though FalseProfit is right that betting flop could definitely extract more value.

Betting small on the river with 1010 is decent because there's a reasonable chance you'll get called by worse. However, as soon as he raises, it's a clear made draw unless you're playing against a maniac or someone with a rare amount of heart. You have second pair on a large raised river. Live or online, you're going to be good there less than 15% of the time.
