Brilliant. People who don't learn from the past are deemed to repeat those mistakes in the future.

Pokerstars' have recently made detrimental changes to their rake, promos, games and fees after years of poker yielding smaller and smaller edges.

Regs are feeling quite powerless as the site they helped build with their years of hard work no longer needs them to sustain their games. However, regs in numbers still possess a great power, the ability to turn small sites into big sites!!

The best way to fight back at Amayastars is to start grinding the small sites that have potential to grow and restore some competition back to the poker market. Become a prop (google 'online poker prop') and get 70%-150% rakeback, ask some regs on here about getting 60%+ on iPoker network. If everyone makes an effort to at least give some of your traffic too small sites I really think this would benefit us all long term.

For those who want to take the message to Amayastars personally, send an email to stars support asking to self-exclude and state your reason, then add your screen-name and self exclusion period in this thread.

We DO still have power, the power to grow poker sites!

Copy, paste and send email below after adding number of days to be excluded.

Dear Pokerstars

Due to the recent changes you have made to your rake, promotions, games and fees I no longer wish to support your site. I will be taking my business elsewhere and self-excluding my pokerstars account for XXX days.

Yours sincerely

One thing that I haven't seen talked about is not recommending pokerstars to recs anymore. I talk to prob at least 100 people a year that are interested in what I do for a living and almost all of them ask me where I play. In the past I haven't really thought about it and just always recommended stars. Now I will always recommend one of the smaller sites and if they already play on stars for whatever reason I will tell them that the other sites are better (can think of a variety of reasons I could come up with that would make a rec try a different site). I have heard from some people that stars doesn't really care if they lose regs, so trying to make them lose as many recs as possible should also hit them in a different spot (while helping out the competition)

+1

Complaining here on 2+2 will not change anything.

Just withdraw your money from Stars, move to one of the smaller sites, get deposit bonuses and promotions there, and enjoy the lower rake and the softer fields. Problem solved

I created this as a thread for self-exclusion and tips to support smaller sites, what use is it here?

ive never understood why a site like stars cant add advertisements to their software which would result in a reduced rake.

While they might end up like Xerox, right now they are way more like Apple 10-15 years back.

The existing user base was unhappy with the company focussing on new products they didn't like and a different clientele. I still remember the "professionals" being shocked when OSX was released in 2001 because of its focus on regular customers. Apple tried to reason with that customer group for some time and then finally basically told them to take it or leave it.
FWIW, now, years later all of those people still use Apple products.

I hate the fact that Stars is using their monopoly to increase rake and I also dislike some of the other changes. But as long as there is no alternative, I don't think it's a good idea to become unreasonable to a point where they might tell some of the regulars to go f themselves because they couldn't care less.

At my home game last week, one of the guys who almost never plays online poker, told us he started to play a lot of Spin & Gos instead of the online slots he used to play. That's a totally new user group they attract to online poker.

I skimmed and didn't see anyone else mention this. The $3 buy-in spin and go is raked at 7% of the prize pool, as described in the table (i.e. identical to the $1 payout structure), even though it is labeled as 6%. The other ones in the spin and go table are accurate.

I'm used to thinking about rake for sngs as buy-in + rake, not as % of total prize pool, so for those who are interested, it averages out like this for the different buy-in levels:
$1=0.93+0.07
$3=2.79+0.21 at 7%, or $3=2.82+0.18 at 6%
$7=6.58+0.42
$15=14.25+0.75
$30=28.50+1.50

POKERSTARS TO LAUNCH SPORTS BETTING AND TABLE GAMES GLOBALLY

Blackjack and roulette available in coming weeks, additional games in 2015 to support poker offering.

ONCHAN, Isle of Man – November 21, 2014 – PokerStars, the world’s largest poker brand, announced today that it will launch sports betting and casino table games globally on PokerStars.com.

The first offerings – blackjack and roulette – will roll out on a market-by-market basis beginning this month with completion anticipated by the end of 2014 reaching nearly half PokerStars’ current player base. PokerStars will add sports betting and other popular casino games in 2015. It also plans to launch a full-featured casino on mobile and web in 2015.

The launch of sports betting and casino games on PokerStars.com leverages the expertise and experience that has been gained from the launch of casino games earlier this year on PokerStars.es in Spain and on Full Tilt in January 2014.

“We are taking the same principles, practices and integrity that make PokerStars such a successful and beloved brand and applying them to new verticals,” said Eric Hollreiser, Head of Corporate Communications. “These new products will also support the development of poker and grow the overall business.”

The rollout of casino on Full Tilt and PokerStars.ES has been greeted well by poker players with approximately 30% of poker customers playing casino monthly, where those games are available. Moreover, 50% of Full Tilt casino players say that the site is the only online casino at which they play.

Quote:
“We thoroughly researched the opportunity and spent a lot of time talking to players and analysing the behavior of our customers on PokerStars.ES and Full Tilt,” Hollreiser said. “Those launches have been successful in reactivating dormant customers and extending the value of our existing poker customers. The experience on our poker platforms to-date also shows increases in net player deposits following the addition of casino games and a negligible impact on poker spend. We are confident these games will create more value to our PokerStars site and bolster the core poker offering.”
Recognizing that some poker players prefer a poker-only environment, PokerStars has enabled features that will allow customers to remove the additional games from their view and to opt out of direct marketing and promotions of the casino games.

“We are committed to extending our leadership in poker and will continue to serve the passionate online poker player, while expanding our reach into new audiences and new gaming opportunities,” Hollreiser said.

The blackjack and roulette games being launched have been built with poker-playing consumers in mind. The company has devoted resources to develop unique multiplayer games, with social and betting features that will appeal to poker-loving audiences. Combined with some of the lowest blackjack margins in the industry and micro stakes starting from $0.10, these games have demonstrated early success in appealing to a mass market poker-playing audience.

Analogizing is not equating. They might not be exactly similar, but there are similarities that are worth noting, which madlex described pretty well.

So you didn't read the article, nor do you have insight view (e.g. exact numbers from Amaya's / PS' analysts), but you still think can judge what's right for a billion dollar company and compare it with other businesses.

Amaya was making money with casino games before they bought PS and FTP. Most of the other poker sites are in the casino biz as well. Online poker is getting smaller and there are a lot of operating costs.

So please explain me, why it is "stupid" to expand the business with an established brand?
