Yes, I also believe Hellmuth has fallen behind the field nowadays, but this could be the momentum he's looking for going into some upcoming events and just a few months out of the WSOP. A big win here could do a lot for him in terms of confidence. On the other side of the spectrum, getting to this final table and busting out early could really devastate him so we'll have to see how it plays out.

I think the most interesting matchup would be Hellmuth and Andy Seth heads up in a young-versus-old, new-school-against-old-school battle.

As you can read at his blog, Hellmuth's all about this new PEMM kick (P – positive, E – Exercise, M – Moment, M – Meditation), so who knows, maybe he'll be turning things around.

He has admitted that he needs to work on his math game, so who knows what 2010 will bring for Hellmuth.

He's pretty close to that reporter...

How many WPT final tables did Ivey have to win one ? 7,8 or something like that.

Hellmuth claims this is his 4th.

I am not counting the NBC heads-up crapshoot as a tournament win.
so what timeframe is required to justify a player's greatness? the most all time is still the most all time, no matter how you slice it right? Anyone can say 'oh just give Ivey a few more years', its the same argument of Tiger vs. Nicklaus in golf.

p.s. I counted 4 wins (including the two you mentioned, and WPT performances), 12 total final tables , and over 3.2 mil in earnings in said time frame, in what has arguably been the hardest tournament time frame ever, how many other players attained these same kind of numbers? (With obvious disregard to Main Event lucksacks)

Lol Donkaments.

Nobody ever doubted his skill at donkaments. He'll always have a chance at donkaments when there are so many bad players around, because he knows how to read and beat bad players.

He's awful at playing genuinely good players though... Just see HSP this season to see how pathetic he truly is in the eyes of fellow pros.

His antics, behavior, and arrogance have also always been (and will continue to be, even if he wins this) absurdly ridiculous and laughable... That's where most of the ridicule comes from.

Prahlad is on the rail right in front of me and Phil notices him. Comes over to ask him about his win at the la poker classic I believe and when prahlad confirms he says "yeah I won that in 88" lol

Pretty sure people everyone understands that the ME is, indeed, a total donkament, even when Ivey makes the FT.

Suffering? I'd be happy for Phil if he takes this down. Will it make him any less of a hateable person? Of course not. As I said, the main reason that he's hated is because he's a total douche, not because he's a bad player.

Ever notice that Hellmuth never gets much cred, but a lot of us quietly cheer for the guy? I think we can identify with someone who views himself as having a superior skillset, but goes on super mega tilt after a suckout.
