I know the rule on pokerstars is that 2 players with the same IP address are not allowed to play on the same table / in the same tournament... but what happens if two people do (accidentally or intentionally)?

Is it automatically detected or can it only be caught manually by Pstars staff?

I ask because I recently registered for a satellite on stars that only had 6 runners. I didn't realise that my room mate had also registered. He yelled out from the other side of the house (lol) when he saw that I had reg'd... so obviously I unreg'd. He is an MTT player and I play cash, so this has never been an issue before.

What would have happened if we both ended up playing the same STT sat?

I'm not asking so that I can cheat. The stakes were tiny & the money is irrelevant. I am just curious because it almost happened accidentally.

I'm sure it wouldn;t be a problem. They awarded 70k to cheaters and changed there rules to allow it. I can't see a few fpp's being a problem

The software should prevent it from ever happening.

u can't play cash and STT's together, never had a problem playing mtt's when multiple people were here for wsop.

Sorry, it wasn't an STT. It was a satellite with an uncapped number of runners... but only got enough players to fill one table.

It's allowed for MTTs on Stars and most sites. It's not allowed for STTs or cash games, and the site automatically blocks it.

My roommate unintentionally tried to join a cash table I was sitting on once and he wasn't allowed to, however, we have both were able to register for big Sunday tournaments.

So what's the difference in playing an mtt with 109 runners and playing a 180 sng?

should not be allowed for mtts imo

A pop-up comes up and tells you can't log in as someone else is logged in on same IP.

Why?

You can hardly plan an instance of collusion on the basis that you and your fellow colluders might just happen to survive long enough to sit at a table together.
11-20-2011 , 07:24 AM
not disputing that. my point was why is it allowed in small field mtts but not in 180 sngs, or even mtts which don't get 45 runners, which is rare but does happen.

Those are both MTTs, and it's allowed in both on Stars. Any SnG with over 9 players is an MTT, the "SnG" part just describes how it is scheduled.

Ah sorry thanks for pointing that out, did not realise that was the case, just thought it applied to all sngs.

Here is an excerpt from an email I received from Pokerstars when I asked if me and my flatmate could both have an account which may or may not be of interest:

'Players who live in the same household, whatever their relationship, must not play at the same cash game table or in the same Sit & Go tournament with 45 players or less. In some cases, this restriction will be imposed automatically by the game software. This restriction does not apply to scheduled Multi-Table Tournaments (MTTs) or 2-player heads-up matches. In MTTs, due to the large numbers of players, friends or relatives are unlikely to be seated next to each other. In heads-up matches, since there are only two players, the only person with whom you can share your cards with, is your opponent... not a good idea.'

Ok so I do have a point

The weekly limit games sometimes only attract 20 odd runners, obv they don't pay a lot but still

Thanks for the clarification on this, I thought it was 18 players.

Hi,

PokerStars operates a whole series of mechanisms that are designed to mitigate collusion - preventing players from the same location playing in cash games or sit and go tournaments (with 45 players or less) is just one of the measures that we employ.

No single measure will stop all collusion, and we need to balance each mechanism against the impact on the customer experience.

To use an extreme comparison, we could stop all collusion tomorrow by only running heads up games... but that would not cater to the needs of all users. Thus, we use a variety of different mechanisms to reduce the chance of collusion without being too intrusive into the experience that honest players enjoy.

Of course, if you do suspect collusion in any event (even a small MTT like is being discussed here) then feel free to email the details to support@pokerstars.com anytime.

Thanks for your reply J.

But it still does not answer my point. Can you give us the stars meaning of what a mtt and sng is.

Typically, 'MTTs' are 'scheduled multi-player tournaments that have a (usually) undetermined number of participants and that start at a certain fixed time'.

SNGs are typically events with a set number of participants which start when the required number of players have registered.

ok, maybe I was wrong about it, what I tried to state is that the software doesnt allow you to play in the same table automatically. One time I played the same sng with a roomate. it was a couple of years ago and it was just that one, maybe that was the reason why no flags were up or other stuff.

whats the policy on shootout heads up matches? that would be a form of collusion or something right?

You could have just one heads up game: Me against The World!

(The world would win, ldo).
