There has to be a move to Canada thread somewhere, sorry I couldn't find it. Anyway, my question is a bit more specific. I think one day, if the online poker situation doesn't get worked out in the US, that I might rent an apartment in Canada and remain a US citizen, and just go there some to play online poker. I miss it that bad lol. That way I'd have utility bills to show pokerstars or whoever. Anyone see a reason why this wouldn't work? A quick Google search made it appear that renting a place for non resident is ok, but im not sure of pokerstars terms, I don't know if you have to be a resident or if you can just "live" there.

As long as you're physically outside the borders of the US (and other restricted areas), PokerStars wants your business. Being a US citizens is no problem; many professionals emigrated elsewhere after the events of black friday. You will need to demonstrate to PokerStars that you do reside outside; utility bills, as you mention. Probably your biggest hurdle will be banking.

There are even companies that will help you make the move. and canada is one location they help people relocate to.

(Disclaimer - I am not affiliated with Poker Refugees and can't vouch for the service.)

That's awesome, thanks. I might have to practice saying "eh". I wonder how hard the bank thing would be

Setting up a bank account is not really an issue, but what tends to be the downfall of many poker players with a similarly well thought out plan as yours is that they assume Canada is waiting at the border with smiling agents read to give them some Tim Hortons donuts as they come in with no set return plan, and no way to properly guarantee they can support themselves in Canada.

Many have been surprised to see it was not as easy to get in as they thought, and legally you can only stay for a specific time (3 or 6 months) as a tourist.

tends to be as much thought as many going to Canada to play poker give in advance. Realistically you need to have a lot of things in proper order before you go there.

That's good info. If I ever actually did this, the idea would be to just go there on vacation or whenever I could get away from work for a few days. It would be a horrible, horrible waste of money buy man, playing on pokerstars. Lol. Hope they'll get some states strung together so I can just go to Atlantic city

opening bank accounts in Canada is a easy breezy friendly experience compared to the US... in my experience

Pretty sure it does not work like that with Stars (the play when on vacation thing). To be blunt, your posts show you are not at all ready to do this, as it actually is quite a bit of organizational work (organizing it with Stars and establishing a place of residence in Canada). Just play on one of the US facing sites for now if you need to play poker, as it sounds like it is more of an enjoyable hobby for you than a full time job.

Oh yeah, this wouldn't be for quite some time, if ever. I read through some of the Canada thread that was posted above and it looks like I could technically pull this off but there's a good amount of headache that goes with it.

And yes I'm a hobby player, but I love it enough to be on here talking about this crazy idea lol

Oh, and another issue for me is that I don't play on the usa facing sites. If I was willing to play on acr, well actually that would be like having online poker almost completely back to me. That site looks awesome.

But gamblings illegal in my state and I've always been baffled about the way so many people on this site consider the idea of getting arrested for doing something illegal so absurd. Don't get me wrong, I know it's never happened, but poker sites had never been shut down by the fbi either before 04/15/2011
