Well, unfortunately, a part of my purchase isn't here yet. Something weird happened to my order, and I can't even check my order status so I don't even know if the rest is on it's way or not yet. I've emailed, but haven't heard back yet. Anybody else ordered from sidepot and had problems? I'm sure it's just one of those rare hiccups in the internet or whatnot.

If everything else comes soon, they'll be splashin around in next thursdays game. I'll let you know what everybody thinks of em.

Yeah, I had the same problem. Sidepot's customer service reputation is a bit less than the quality of their products. My blue non-denom's I was going to use as nickels was out of stock, so I told them to just send me more quarters and dollars. It took a couple weeks and a half-dozen emails before they showed, also with no ability to track. I think I mentioned that somewhere ITT...

hmmm. I need those yellow .25's or I can't even use these at my game (.05/.10). Well, no use in stressin. Just gotta stick with my crappy dice chips a lil longer I guess.

My chipracks were shipped a week later than my chips with no warning or explanation, but they arrived in the end.

I'm thinking of buying a set of those Pharaoh chips. My home game is 5c/10c NL/PL games with usually around 6 people playing. Occasionally we can get up to 8-9 players. We don't get too many rebuys in our games though. Do you think I can get away with a 300 chip set?

What is the normal buy-in? $20.00?

Mostly $10. There are some $5 and some $20.

100 5c = $5
100 25c = $25
60 $1 = $60
40 $5 = 200

Total bank is $290

First 5 players get 20 * 5c + 20 * 25c 4 * $1 = $10
Next players get their buyins in $1's only.

6 handed you should be fine. If you play 8-9 handed it will be a bit tight on change and players will be making change from each other/the pot quite a lot but it's workable.

Thanks. Sounds good to me.

Thanks for this thread. I ordered Venerati samples and Milano samples. Like the venerati chips a bit better. I assume they are only available at sidepot?

Yes, only available through Sidepot. They rarely, if ever, show up used.

Nice. I request photos of actual bets, being made by the player with the best poker face and the player with the worst poker face in your game.

Thanks for the thread. Very interesting reading. I am going to be getting a new cash set for my home game. I will be getting samples but, really like the look of the Dunes so that will be miy first samples.

Venerati's were my first samples, and when they were the only ones I had I liked them very much... However, after receiving my Pharaoh & Desert Palms I'm glad I got different samples!

Venerati's are very slick & feel "clinky" compared to the Palms & Pharaohs, like they're coated (probably are) and the Pharaoh & Palms are more bare & chalky...

I can't shuffle the Palms or Pharaohs worth a damn, been able to shuffle the Venerati's & dice chips easily... not sure if I'm the only one that can't shuffle the rougher clay chips...

Anyhoo, after 2 weeks of having all 3, I'm leaning towards the Desert Palms for my cash set

I shuffle the Pharaohs easily. With clay like chips it takes time to break them in. As they get used the wear on the surface of the chips makes shuffling them easier.

That said, ceramics are always going to be easier to shuffle.

Both places I looked for chips did not have 25c Pharoah's in stock. It was going to be 2 months before they were in, so, I decided I couldn't wait.

Was looking for some chips for a friendly home game (I've got a set, but they're maybe the worst ever, just plastic coloured discs about a centimeter thick), and discovered this thread.

After an hour of reading and further internet research, I felt pretty confident I had an idea of what good chips were, what I liked, and was thinking about ordering some samples.

Then I actually looked at the cost of buying a decent quantity of any of the chips mentioned in here and getting them shipped to the UK, and came to my senses and ordered a £30 set of 500 of the 11.5gm weighted ones that'll do the job just fine.

Now in the back of my mind, though, I'm always going to know that there's much nicer chips out there and kinda want them. Stupid thread...raising my aspirations...one day...

Shipping outside the US is definitely an issue since most of the vendors are US based and freight costs are way high. I overcame the hurdle by having someone hand carry the load of chips back home, but you need to find someone traveling to the US who is willing to carry it (gotta be carefull with overweight since 500 chips will add about 5kg to the already stupid limit of 23kg for the check in bag).

I noticed that recently, too, but I failed to note that ITT. Last night, I noticed 2 chips, a $1 and a $5, that had very small chips on the edge. One I had in my shuffling stack, the other I noticed across the short way of the table. I seem to recall dropping a few the other night, so it"s likely from that. But, IMO I guess that's what you get with ceramic vs concrete.

98% of the time, no one else will notice the slight flaws. I haven't looked that closely, but I would be willing to bet every chip in this category exhibits similar inconsistancies. The bang for the buck is what you're getting here; for perfection, look at >$1 per chip (and I'll bet you can find a couple flaws in that set, too).
How are these holding up? Any more chips in the chips?

Thank you so much for the initial review. This has been one of the best sources of info that I have stumbled across. I really like the Veneratis. It is between them and the Milano. Heavily leaning toward the former.

Between those two, it's really just a matter of preference as to clay or ceramic. Both are solid chips, and they both hold up well. I love my Milanos, but I freely acknowledge the Veneratis are solid, very attractive looking chips.

Milanos have long had a stellar reputation as a "value for dollar" chip. Really cannot go too far wrong with them.
