I was at the Sun tonight, and the room was hopping. I checked my Bravo, and Mohegan actually had more games going than Foxwoods...on a Friday night. Between the new Friday night jackpot and the new Tourney, they can have a good thing going here Fridays.

They could have a good thing going all the time if they had a consistent 30 min HH promotion like they did last year and as Foxwoods does now. Returning the $1 drop, well most of the drop (where does the rest go?), with a 3 hour HH does zero to bring butts in the door. I don't know why they got away from what was very successful last year when they frequently had as many or more games than Foxwoods however the lack of marketing a promo that is proven to be effective boggles the mind.

My wife and I are thinking to change from AC Borgata to CT. We might just come this weekend with paid Holiday Inn. One thing that bothers me is we get weekend comp rooms most of the time in Borgata since we play long hours each time, but does Foxwoods or MS offer free weekend room to poker players at all? weekend matters since we work in Manhattan on week days. Which casino is easier with weekend rooms, Foxwoods or MS?

Thanks in advance and see you in CT!

Mohegans rooms are super over-priced. They used to give you discounted rooms if you played poker for at least an 8hr session. Not sure how that works anymore..

Some friends and I used to get rooms at Foxwoods and drive over to Mohegan, because Foxwoods rooms were that much cheaper...

The other thing you now have to concern yourself with is getting free rooms, but only in the Earth tower, which has been ripped to shreds in most reviews, with folks saying it has cheap Ikea-like decor and lots of kinks not worked out. It sounds like they rushed to open it, so maybe it can be salvaged, but beware if you're put there and definitely don't opt for it unless cost is an issue and all you want is literally a place to crash.

What kinks need to be worked out

Based on my free room offers which never are on weekends, you most likely will get free rooms in the old Sky hotel not the new Earth. I have 12 free nights for the rest of January and and all are in the Sky. If I wanted the Earth it would be $59/night.

You can sometimes get the Poker Rate for weekends which is about $120/night all in.

I haven't had any problems with the Earth tower. The pool is small and the Ipads aren't there yet but the bathrooms are nice, beds are good. I choose it over the Sky tower when given the option.

Weekend rooms are easier to get at Foxwoods.

I'd be interested in reading those reviews. Each time I've stayed at Earth in a brand new room with modern upgrades that Sky doesn't have. I prefer Sky as that long walk to the elevators annoy me and the room is a little bit smaller (plus I'm comfortable with the Sky rooms) but from an aesthetics view Earth is superior to the Sky rooms.

Go on tripadvisor and look at the last two months. Granted, people tend to be more likely to post reviews if they're unhappy, and the number who like it could well outnumber those who don't by a significant margin.

That being said, folks said they had HVAC issues, or charging stations that didn't work. Some found the rooms very dinky and spartan, and the beds not very comfortable. Plus there were complaints about the walls being paper thin - more so that the old towers. They also were displeased with the lack of food and room service options and needing to check in at the old location.

It honestly sounded to me like a situation where Mohegan pushed to have the rooms ready for the holidays and NYE when maybe they could've used a bit more finishing touches and attention to punch lists. Maybe they'll use the somewhat slower month of January to work kinks out? Or it could just be a WYSIWYG situation.

I stupidly canceled my room in Earth Tower for this Saturday night (Jan 28) which I had at a rate of $229..now plans have changed but they're sold out completely. Anyone have creative ideas or best practices on when cancellations may occur? We have a room at the Marriott but would strongly prefer to stay onsite

Thanks

You can check your online calendar or call throughout day on Friday. Cancellations require 24 hour notice so rooms will open up the day before but of course they will go fast.

Take a shot and see if the poker room has any poker rate rooms, if you've played there before you'll get it if it's open.

I heard the chairman of Mohegan on with Mike Francesa this afternoon and he said they just bought 400 acres across the river from their property and they will be making an announcement shortly on what they plan on doing. Wonder what they are doing? Another Ikea hotel?

This news is nothing new. They bought the land that was previously a state Mental Hospital.

The layout of what the Mohegans plan to do looks nice (water park, theatre, shopping, sports complex, marina, etc). I just hope they do it right.

Don't be surprised if they dont add additional lanes on the bridge because of the traffic this should bring in.

The dealers and floors here are ridiculous .

Tonight was the last straw .
I'm constantly having people start **** with me at the tables and the dealers don't do anything and than when I go back at them I almost get in trouble .

I got myself kicked out tonight cause some guy stacked me and was being super obnoxious to me about it .

So eventually I got him back and than some and was just as abnoxious and he called the first floor and they kicked me out cause I wouldn't stop.

Way to go Mohegan lol
