Background: Played for like ~year, 2 years ago. Was a winner, but failed hard because of work habits. Quit basically cause I hated learning/working hard, up until now where uni actually taught me results are usually proportional to working hard

I'm a full time engineering student, so have a huge workload. One of the challenges will be time management.

At the $60s at the moment, and will grind up to at least $7.5k + feeling comfortable until moving up to $100s+

I'll be trying my best, and honestly think this should be achievable. Will update ~weekly w/ titles "*Update X". gogo 2012!

Maybe you can talk a bit more about your mentality before and after university? I think it's one of the most important things (hard work) that people tend to discount when struggling/bitching about bad stretches.

I was in first year (2009) when I first started playing. Straight out of HS I had the worst work habits -- I didn't go to any classes/do any hw and eventually caused me to delay at least a year in graduating because of failed classes. At the same time I was playing poker casually, with the mindset "as long as I play, I'll eventually move up and crush 100s ezgame"

Well that obviously didn't work out.. even though I could beat the game, I did not work on my game, didn't give effort putting volume in, etc. I knew there was a lot of information/tools out there for me to improve, but I was just lazy.

I eventually quit because I thought it just wasn't for me. I did play on and off, but had the same problems w/ work habits.

So in 2010, I had a super degen year with only a few failed courses/electives. I didn't work, or do anything productive. I played SC2 and HoN 24/7 for the whole school year.. nothing much more.

Fast forward to this September. I haven't touched poker for a while and never thought I'd come back to it. Having a full engineering course load, I finally experienced "hard work". TBH I've never worked hard in my life, and I've never succeeded at anything past being "good". And then one day in November while playing HoN.. I just realized wtf am I doing wasting my time? I can do all the proj/labs/tests school throws at me, if I put as much effort into something useful, I can obv succeed.

- degen'd for a year doing nothing but gaming/taking a couple classes
- full course load, was v positive w/ school and learned a couple things about life (hard work mainly)

Another v important thing for me was just time management. I used to always think "I don't have time for it", but honestly it's just an excuse. I've already put in my biggest volume month this month, while studying for all my finals/going out.

Edit: don't know how I forgot to mention, I had like 3 ~1k/1k+ days.. pretty huge for me this week was clearly the biggest week I've had.

BR is at like $7.7k, can start taking shots at 100s any time.. but gonna hold back until I'm feeling good. Kind of a nit.

Hope to put in 500+ games next week. Should be v doable.. clear schedule!

Notes: Played bad. Been in a mindset of just "putting volume in", like "I make X amount each game, if I play Y amount I'll win Z amount per day/week/month!"

Revisted Cog's focus vid which pointed out some obvious things and put in a couple of hours of good play in the end. I don't expect my A game 24/7, but I played most of the day with my C game.

Notes: still not playing very well. variance is prob helping me think that too. Feels like I'm getting crushed by fish Trying to look at it with a clear mind is a bit hard.. helps that I run good but one of the things I hate most is running over EV. I've always been tilted the hardest when I play bad and win. It's sort of weird I guess, but I've been fixing this leak and have improved a lot. Reading Jared Tindlers book "Mental Game of Poker". Talks about at least a few concepts everyone can at least learn a little from.

Getting 2 hours of coaching tonight. Should be a huge grind day tomorrow for me since I'm free. Looking forward to tomorrows update

Notes: took shots at 100s today. level of play isn't noticeably harder, although I haven't played any regs (not really in my best interest to anyway). I run good as usual which tilts me a little, but other than that I played well ~half the day. Trying out some new stuff which both worked and didn't work. Played well like 3/4th the time and obv ran good card distribution wise.

~60 BIs above EV @ ~$40 avg stake.. so ~$2400 above EV.

It's been a pretty crazy month and a half. 2 months ago I never even thought about poker or playing it again. I "quit" for the last time in May/June swearing I won't touch poker again, thinking it's just not for me.

Long story short, I started reading the forums again, and wanted to prove to myself I can succeed if I put in effort, w/o making excuses. I decided to deposit ~$800 on Stars to play these hyper HUSNGs, starting at the $7s. My goal at the time was to get to the 30s/60s and grind a good $20+/h for a "part-time" job. Anyway, went to Cog Dis to jumpstart me into these games, which went well. Putting in 3/4 hours a day to grind (while constantly learning new things on the side.. so maybe more like 4/5h a day), I quickly moved up to 15s, 30s, 60s, and now the 100s.. w/ a total profit of ~$10k!

I hope this shows some of you w/ a some run good and hard work, it's really not that hard.

It's only been a little over 3k games, so it's still a small sample. I'm 100% sure I won't keep up this ROI (lol 7.5% rungood), but I think I can beat the 100s for a solid 2-3% atm. Really don't want to be overconfident, cause I'm already expecting month long downswings sometime in the future.

If all goes well, I might go for 200k VPPs instead, but still w/ the $50k goal. I'll be trying to put in 2k games a month on avg, which will be tough for me.
