Just ran some sims to check I wasn't just talking nonsense there, because tbf I never ever play HU. Used Cepheus preflop ranges (think they are okay?);

Turn vs xback ^ (the slither on 34s is all the 34hh)

River ^

Obviously after we've bet a super polarised range into a fairly capped range on the turn, and we get a blank river (so villain is still capped, compared to say a heart, 8, K etc), we are going to continue being aggressive and makes sense to just increase the betsize to the maximum if we effectively never lose with our value hands.

Also worth noting that pio is less capped than pop here in that it xs back the occasional twopair and straight. 34 obviously blocks the one likely nutted hand in villains range, so seems good to me! Obviosuly much better to bluff with 3x than Tx if we think about villains folding range on the river,

Only reason to bet turn is to fold out equity, so when you overbet, you are betting more than you need to with the hand you have. Sure, you can argue all day bet is > check (and I won't necessarily disagree), but overbet is < check for sure, because you are risking significantly more than is necessary to achieve the best outcome and the frequency of folds vs 2.5-3bb and against 10bb is not 3-4x greater making it lower EV. This EV is not made up for when you hit your hand either because that happens < 50% of time to begin with.
Just looked at villain to make sure I got his cbet tendencies down and best he has when he checks back his AJ, prior hands he has cbet even weak Q's. I actually rep a lot, when he's capped at one pair I can overbet basically everything 2p+ even J9. That's like 80 combos. I actually think overbet> bet.

Thought process is similar to Plastic's except he's a bit more succinct with it

Plastic,

Yeah and this guy, unlike PIO, will not check back any of that. His cb range is actually really, really weak. I could actually bomb most rivers when the flush comes in cause he doesn't check those either. Appreciate the visual!

Played a bit yday. Made one or two boneheaded plays but overall was solid.

For some stupid reason I thought we checked behind on the flop in position. I think we can agree that if we were in position and we had checked flop then this would be bad. Very annoying to discuss when I read HH wrong to begin with.

I agree that we have lots of combos of nuts and he's generally capped which means having an overbet strategy on the turn is going to be highest EV for our range. I'd imagine not using paired hands and just some gutter/oesd blockers is best, which aligns up well with what we see in PIO. This is due to us only being able to have so many bluffs ott without over bluffing and adding in any 3x quickly does this. This may not be a problem at all vs. this villain (or most villains) so from an exploitative POV it's very likely villain will fold often on turn, and even when he does call he's likely to be folding river very frequently. So, I'll take back what I said and say it is fine.

Hoboken

So earlier this month, I finally got out of my parents house and moved to Hoboken with one of my best friends since high school. The price is a bit hefty, but I definitely love the area and the city as a whole; there's quite a bit to do.

Some pics of the new place!

Kitchen:

Patio outside (shared by the building):

Our tiny living room:

Grind Station/My room:

All in all, I definitely love the place and the independence of being on my own.

Health

Seeing how sedentary a person can become playing poker, I've made it a big goal of mine to get back in shape. Signed up for a retro fitness about 10 minutes away and have been going about 5x a week for the last month or so.

I'm currently at 182 lbs. and 12% bf and I'd like to get back to my Junior Year weight of 195 lbs. and 9.5 % bf.

The strength and focus I've gotten from lifting has definitely increased my focus with playing and I think I've seen an uptick in results as well.

Poker

Can't be a poker blog without some poker, right?

Things have been relatively the same, I've been grinding 100/200 pretty much exclusively with some 400+ meshed in when the occasion calls for it. Unfortunately, I've been a bit lazy with studying (only about 3 hours of review so far this month) and playing only 25k hands through the month.

The good news is that I feel I've improved immensely since coaching. Been winning at about 8bbs/100 last 40k hands (Lol sample size, but still) at 200. I've implemented a lot of change and have improved some of my leaks for sure.

It almost feels like I kind of had an aha! moment when it comes to the game, feel like my hand reading has exponentially improved and my thought process has changed regarding the game.

Freeroll Opportunity

Volume has been my biggest leak as a professional and it's time I do something about it. I currently have played 25k hands this month. If I don't have 60k hand completed by the month, I will personally send $150 to someone who posts on this thread from here til the end of the month.

Hopefully the prospect of losing some money will give me a kick I need!

Finally, some hands!

Yeah man, you'd love it here. A lot to do, right next to the city, and a lot of beautttiful women.

Fast, yeah volumes my #1 focus for right now.

You guys are looking good for the freeroll, got 31k hands so far so I'm gonna make it a sweat. Think I'm like +2k over EV this month so that's quite nice. 2 nice hands at the higher stakes below.

1.) Against big fish, I think jamming the flush is super close against this villain, but he had a bit too much FH combos so I took the (safer/nittier?) avenue and just flatted

Got beat up pretty bad tonight and I had to listen to the presidential debate tonight. Ran absolutely horrid at 400NL against a pretty good lineup and that caused it.

in4freeroll!!!

H1: Too lazy to do the math but I'm not sure you are getting odds to call vs villain's range which is going to be 2p/sets like always.

H2: Not sure how much I like the backraise 4b shove. Being 120bb eff makes me want to 4b a reasonable size since we have position and sb can call a little wide since we're a little deep, and it also allows sb to 5b bluff.

H3: Depends on how they play their ranges, but I expect CO to double barrel turn if they have Qx a majority of the time. As played, I'd bet smaller on river to get crying calls from 8x, and some pps, our hand is pretty much face up when we bet river MW.

First H4: No idea who Justin is, I don't think you're that wild to turn hands into bluffs on that river as played, ez fold for villain imo.

Second H4: Think you're correct, turn raise probably more profitable.

Third H4: el oh el nh

H5: I prefer call turn and see if I can either bluff-raise rivers, bet when checked to, or give up when I brick, at mixed frequencies since I'm not jamming turns with nutty hands that often.

Wow hand 6 dude lol idk what to say. We lose to 2 combos of A4 and 6 combos of AJ, some of which 3b pre? How do we not at least take a river? Sick stuff man. I trust your judgment more than mine though.

Yeah posted it for the lolz I guess. It's obviously a super explo fold, but I played with villain enough to know he's never taking that line w KQhh/ss and felt very sure it's always value, which my hand is always crushed by.

Also think he's peeling SB super wide with BB being a whale so A4o is certainly in his range.

I definitely don't recommend folding boats on a regular basis to a single re-raise

Wanted to post one quick hand before I do my month summation. I had trouble with this river spot. In hindsight, betting turn>checking turn. AQ seems like pretty much the best bluffcatcher here right? Villain is a good 400 NL reg, but not sure if he's bluffing this spot either.

Monthly Wrap up

Ran exceptionally well 4/5ths of the month, finished up running exceptionally horrid. Overall +2,500 in cash, +934 in tourneys, +800 in RB. Month ends up +4,234. Not great, Not bad though.

Volume was once again piss poor. I suck. My tables per session was also low and I ended up playing only 93 hours with about 7 hours studying so not really enough work, which is 100% on me.

Here's main graph, wont add the other ones since they only account for like 20% other volume.

Stake:

Graph:

Freeroll Winner...since I only played 43k hands total for the month.

GG Mason, I'll probably talk to you on Skype on Sunday to get your Paypal.

Will do another one for next month if I don't reach my volume goal as well.

October Goals

1.) 60,000 cash hands
2.) No 400 NL +
3.) Beat 100 NL for 6bbs/100
4.) Beat 200 NL for 4bbs/100
5.) Get a study routine down

Have my housewarming in 12 hours and looking forward to getting absolutely bombed. Back to work on Sunday, hope everybody else had a good month.

Well, can't believe someone's enduring same experience with me. I've worked for 1o years and found my work sucks every day. I'm considering if I can turn to be an online player. I've played poker for one year. Still newbie. Glad to meet coach and friends here.
