I haven't played much since the last update. Bodog is really laggy now, causing a lot of misclicks and the HUD doesn't work properly.

Also playing really badly when I do play. Ever since school came back I've never had enough time to do anything, I'm trying to only go out on weekends now but finding it nearly impossible. FOMO maybe? Since school I've completely stopped meditating/exercising/sleeping properly/eating properly. When I play I'm usually tired, my energy levels are low, and I skip my pregame routine. My focus at the tables has not good, feeling really bored of poker lately and more often than not am letting myself open social media while playing. Unsurprisingly, my thought process at the tables has been not-so-great.

Only thing I have been doing right is table selecting a lot, which I will continue to do for awhile. Life is good atm, but until I get regain some passion for the game and start constantly playing my A game again, something has to change...and I'll stick with bumhunting till then.

MTD:

Been running too well...but I can't expect to hit 100k if I keep this up. I'm working on getting back on track, my motivation is so low atm. Hopefully by February everything will be on track. Some things I'm thinking are...

Minimum of 60 hours/month
Minimum 30k hands/month...this will force me to bumhunt less
Constantly play to the best of my abilities...this is always the hardest part

Man, really think you are on a big heater. (no offense)

as for everything else, I feel I'm in a similar situation. I just worked two 60 hours weeks in a row and am quite mentally/physically drained and the idea of grinding just drains me more. A few days ago when I had a couple days off I just played 1 table and watched netflix because of this and it was relaxing/enjoyable. My quality of play was superb for 99% of the session, but obviously volume suffered significantly.

If you end up coming up with anything that works for you--please do share with me as I'm also finding it difficult to balance my life, let alone add in poker.

As always, GL at the tables

Obviously he's caught a nice heater lately, nothing wrong with that. There was a lot of spew in those last few hands that he posted but he seemed to realize that and I'm sure he's likely got a solid edge in the games he's playing in.

The 100k year is possible but going to be really difficult, especially with the school/wanting a social life I'm sure. If you can get most of your volume at 5/10, game select well, and get in 1500+ hours you'll have a good chance. Definitely should avoid playing when you don't feel you are playing well and spewing though, digging out of a hole at 5/10 never feels fun so don't hurt your progress/mindset by subjecting yourself to even worse/bigger swings with bad play. If you're confident that you can make 150k playing full time, and I think that you can, why still go to school?
If I were you I'd dropout, play poker full time, have more time for social activities / travelling, and if it doesn't work out or you're done with poker, you just go back to school.

Just my 2 cents, you only have one life so live it to the fullest bud.

Gl either way, will follow for sure !

Quitting school for poker when poker (more so online poker specifically for now) has such a negative looking future is not a smart thing to do. Going back to school at a later time is not as easy as it sounds for a variety of reasons. And not to take away anything from the OP but making 150k (without running super hot) is quite unlikely to happen even if he is grinding 5/10 full time the whole year. It's just hard to get enough volume in due to the 4 table max. It also seems that things have only started clicking for him within the last couple months so making huge life decisions based on a nice couple months of results is just really not a smart thing to do. Anyways, I doubt op was planning to quit school and I'm sure you don't mean any harm with your advice.

tl;dr stay in school kids

Thanks, I might have some content for you actually. Will message you on Skype sometime this week. It becomes much more challenging when poker starts feeling like a boring chore, which is how I've been feeling for the past ~2 weeks. Very very bored of it.

Thanks! 100k is difficult indeed and rather very optimistic. 1500 hours is not realistic for me, 0% of me putting in >1000 hours for poker. However, it's still achievable if I stick to my plans and have good discipline. I agree with what you said, won't be playing until I am sure that my focus at the tables will be good.

How's own-diming been?

Some people have asked me the same thing, it's a valid point. I personally prefer having multiple projects to work on, it makes things more interesting for me. I wouldn't like playing poker full time, too much time on the computer and not enough socializing. I'd also get bored of it rather quickly...10-15 hours of poker a week is fun but a lot more and it becomes a chore. Even 10-15 hours/week has been a chore lately and my motivation is at an all-time low.

It wouldn't be easy, I'd have to be disciplined but 150k for fulltime is a preeeeetty realistic goal. Much easier than 100k w/school. I'm mixing sites this year so it will be much easier compared to only playing on Bodog.

I'm also pretty confident I could make 100k in a year (or at the very least, more than 55-60k) which is what I'm currently making at my job. Poker really isn't going to be as profitable as it is today, it's going to constantly dwindle, and giving up on school and/or a job makes the future look not so great.

I mean, if you had a gold mine in the back of your yard, knew you could make 100k a year but that every year you'd likely make less and eventually not be able to make anything, what would you do?

I'd get as much as I could out of it while I can, enjoy my life as much as possible and if I then at some point have to change my life to do something I like less, I'd take it from there.

If you're able to get a couple hundred thousand from poker, it really isn't that hard after that to do something new even without an education. However ofcourse if you WANT to go to school and get a certain degree etc. like op says he does, it changes the whole story and I wouldn't root against it.

People take pretty easily here for granted to make 100/150k per year after having +EVbb winrate for last ~100K hands while shotting aggressively up from nl100
Just try to plant some realism here.

Why are we discussing Nahh leavings school anyway?

Hes already said he hates grinding poker full time, and doesn't even like putting in 15 hours per week, thats like 2 days work.

IMO, if you don't want to be end boss at some high stakes then don't leave school for poker, especially if right now you're playing like 10,000 hands in 3/4 of a month and have no motivation to grind at least 20 hours per week.

Its a triangle, pick 2. Poker, Social life or Education. Its pretty hard to have them all to a decent level. I know people who are at nl1k+ and at uni, but they completely disregard uni now, and I know people who stay at a lower limit because they want to finish uni. I haven't seen someone do both yet.

GL regardless, update more.

Uhhh....

Down 5k today. Never even lost close to this much in a day. How am I feeling? Fine, tbh. Ran pretty bad overall today.

It's easy to overlook the importance of a strong mindset when you're running well, but I'm extremely happy that during the last few weeks, I was able to realize how bad I was playing despite my good results and fix it. I played well today, put in a long session and started at A/A- game and gradually dropped down to B game, which was fine as I didn't wanna give up my seats.

I honestly think I played good. I made a lot of (hopefully) good folds and I can say for a fact, if I played like how I was playing a week ago, I'd just snap call. Results would have been much much more disastrous. Of course, can never be too sure, gonna put in a session review tomorrow.

Also, it's time like these that I'm grateful to be staked. I didn't tilt today, didn't let any of the results affect me, and I feel fine. If I was own-diming, I wouldn't be able to keep playing well after losing a few k, no way, also I'd be pretty sad/angry.

Eh, too big of a rant for just a standard 5 BI swing, but it's kinda new to me...so I'm happy that I played well despite it.

graph + hands coming in 1-3 days!

You'll get used to it just like you did at the levels before. 5/10 swings especially can take a bit to get used to just due to how much utility that money has in your day to day life. Just make sure you are always thinking in terms of bb's and don't make lower ev decisions just to try to control the swings. gl bouncing back!

Yep I agree, the bb/utility ratio is so crazy that unless you're playing higher stakes as well, you can never truly shake off 5/10 swings.

Saturday games

Should have 3b to 90 bro

Gross...

Had some great seats and could have stayed longer but wanted to go outside. I need to increase my weekend volume.
