not sure how relevant it is to this thread, but I've noticed something curious about EPT Barcelona - while all the smaller buyins gathered massive fields, with 1k Estrellas main having a record breaking field for an EPT tournament, everything with >10k buyin showed really tiny numbers. I wonder why that might be, it's not like all the hs crushers are busy playing online

Can think of a few reasons;

- the addition of tax in the range of 15-25% for everyone makes highrollers very hard to beat
- the politics become more absurd in the cash games for every year, high rake and foreigner have almost no chance of getting to play with fish because they just take them to their private games
- A lot of cash game players have had big issues getting out their winnings from the casino because they seemingly refuse to wire winnings.

Personally I hope its the last ept in barcelona and that they replace it with another stop. Even going back to the incident with jeans and human back in the day, they dont deserve a ept stop imo.

Few suggestions for High-Stake threads:

an edit on ‘Known High Stake Players’ this list is 10 years old+ and there’s not one player post LLinus era on this list … doesn’t seem right

separate omaha high stakes and holdem high stakes threads

monthly recap of hands done in video compilation format? similar to how it’s done in this video, much quicker and easier to watch thru all the hands (and more entertaining!)

I don't think it's necessary to separate omaha and holdem, but updating OP would be nice.

There has been a few attempts at making new lists.

Group A: “End bosses”
• Linus Loeliger (LLinusLLove on PS , borntotilt on WPN)
• Markus Leikkonen (makeboifin on PS, mexican222 on WPN)

They snatch the highest lobbies whenever they log on (especially Linus), the only player who challenged them for a decent amount of hands in the last 6 months is Zas, and I think they’re both up on him (I might be wrong). Also there’s this thing where Makeboi never loses. So until someone beats them or they retire, I feel they wear the crown for now

Group B: “Just bosses”
• Victor Kudinov (zas911 on PS, 7SkyAroundMe on WPN)
• Stefan Burakov (Stefan11222 on PS, Ollin22333 on WPN)

True grinders, who play a lot more than the 1st group, in any lineup 3+ handed, and the only 2 (I think) to play them HU. Will win a ton when they run hot (+1.4M in 2 months last autumn for Zas at NL20K and under, +45 buyins at NL10K for Stefan in January). Their complete lack of game selection will sometimes result in heavy losses in HU games. They’re still awesome though.

Group C: “Reasonably awesome”
• Kevin Paque (TaxHere on PS)
• Roberto Perez (LemonHouse on GG, DavyJones922 on PS, CWestmoreland on WPN)
• Barak Wisbrod

These guys seem to focus on playing mostly 3+ handed, with a strong affinity for reg wars (the first 2 at least) and absurd win rates. In fact in a 6-max game they might even be favorites compared to the 2 groups listed previously, but the scarcity of HU action prevents me to rank them higher (might be a mistake).

Group D: “Kings in the North”
• Ivan Galinec (ja.sam.gale on PS, vesnapisarovic on WPN)
• Ignacio Moron (Nacho124441 on PS, TIKITAKA11 on WPN)
• Sergey Nikiforov (MunEZ_StaRR on PS, Burundos254 on WPN)

3 terrific players who came and conquered on PS, then on WPN where they seem to never lose a pot, but for some reason have struggled quite a bit on GG. The game selection here is minimal, both in HU and 3+ handed. Munez also does have this specific thing where once a year he plays someone HU for way too long and ends up dropping a half million.

Group E: “Too rich to care”
• Wiktor Malinowski (Iimitless on PS)
• Hector ‘Alvarez’ Rodriguez (TUTI88 on PS)

These guys have played well-publicized HU games in the past including against Stefan, and today they can’t seem to be bothered to play anything below 50/100. Wiktor has the GG contract and is around much more often. TUTI, when he’s around, plays every lineup it seems, Wiktor doesn’t.

Group F: “Just really solid, man”
• Darrell Goh (FourSixFour on PS, JohnMcShen on WPN)
• Alexey Borovkov (avrora on PS, zas911 on WPN)

Not sure what to say here, they just win monies, a lot, a lot of the time.

Group G: “Downswing happen to great players too”
• Taisto Janter (SyrW_Helmets on PS, SigadiSogadi on WPN)
• Vicente Delgado (vicenfish on PS, eldelbar on WPN)
• Marius Gierse (DEX888 on PS, orgi69 on WPN)
• Daniel Soltys (Meek Bill on WPN)
• Matthew Bergart (previously Isidro Pereira on GG)

All of these players are really freaking good, yet they seem to be decently in the red in the last 6 months. For vicenfish and Bergart, it seems to be mostly bad run at higher stakes, as they both grinded a lot of 25/50 recently, and are showing great results there. For the 3 others, it seems they’re just struggling a bit in their regular games, where they previously won heaps.

Group H: “Number 20”
• Kayhan Mokri (KayhanMok on PS and WPN)

I’m not sure what to make of him. He seems to be willing to play a lot people, and not a lot of people seem to want to play him. I don’t list HU-only specialists here like buttonclickr, but Kayhan seems to play ring games quite often too.

That's all folks, hopefully you don't regret these 2 minutes reading this!

Lol, Triton isnt america where you have to be a manipulating sociopath to get into games. It's been known for a long time that triton/macao/manila vips prefer playing with the best players and the ones who could put in long hours and play big/give lots of action.

Have you seen the latest cash games from Triton on youtube? The pros are Antonius, as well as Linus, Koon and Brewer from the newer school of high roller pros.

Linus is a ton more action than both Koon and Brewer and seems to have a pleasant table demeanor as well. Hes just better than the others by a mile. Koon in particular just seemed kinda off his a-game when playing the standup game, not adjusting properly. Kept whining about his bad distribution of cards and how his hands couldnt play versus 3bets when the stand up game made 3bet ranges across the table much wider. Linus very quickly caught on and was 4betting light to take down a lot of pots.

Brewer was in a good mood and seemed to be a nice addition to the table but he actually seemed kinda scared money, as if he was playing with more of himself than he was comfortable with. He was shaking his head visibly annoyed for quite some time after getting stacked in a quite standard 2p v 2p spot. He also flatted 99 v Vivian who was playing extremely loose and then flatted again versus Linus' 3b squeeze (w 66) instead of just playing aggressively with what was a super premium the way the table was playing. Ended up having to fold on a scary board.

Look at the comments on those YT videos from the Triton cash games. People like Linus. I think barring him and other top pros would be a mistake. There's definitely a portion of the audience that wants to see top cash game players in the lineup, and that portion of the audience definitely doesn't want to see them playing badly to "give back." There's also a class of recreational that specifically enjoys playing against top players for the competitive aspect, and I think the recs at this table mostly fell into that category. Plus Linus seems like a very pleasant and likeable person. He's also young and relatively good looking which matters for TV.

Generally I think it would be a huge mistake for Triton to try to pander to the audience that wants to see a bunch of crazy recs punting back and forth, because (1) that's not the brand they've built through their tournament series, and (2) that niche is already being filled by other streams. IMO this latest Triton cash game was the highest quality televised cash game I've ever watched. The lineup they picked was perfect. It was a very nice mix of likeable amateurs who actually have some interest in the strategy of the game, big name pros like Antonius and Koon who represent the "old guard" of high stakes pros, and then arguably the current best NLHE cash game player in the world in Linus.

Edit: Case in point -- the highest rated comment on the first video by a factor of >2 is a comment saying "LINUS!!!!!! [heart eyes emoji x5]"

Also nanonoko did a great job with commentary using a 'less is more' approach. He says the bare minimum which is perfect when the players are talkative.

Linus put on a true masterclass, great series of episodes to watch!
09-02-2023 , 11:49 PM
Yeah those games are really well broadcast by Triton who are doing a great job and established their brand as high stakes high end games. Its fun to see the old school names duke it out with rich casino owners and top asian businessmen/pros. You get to see legends like Antonius-Dwan-Ivey mix it up with Santosh or super modern pros like Linus (who I thought has good presence and seems polite and carries himself well) TonyG, Persons, Rob Young etc... its great mix of lineups. Aaron Zang and Tan Xuan seem like pretty solid pros from team local. I had stopped watching most poker content bc I simply found it boring. The Wsop with all unknowns and tanking dudes in hoodies and shades is quite yawn imo. But this is pretty damn entertaining and watchable.

Triton lineups are the nuts to rail. Shoutout to both the recs in the games and triton production/owners for letting us watch these things for free. Thank you thank you.

Great content. Linus crushing it
09-03-2023 , 07:44 AM
Triton Poker is the nuts for televised cash games. Love that it's not highlight reels and just raw footage. More cash game shows (not livestreamed games like HCL or The Lodge) on TV like HSP and PAD need to do this.
