Listening from high atop Downtown Los Angeles waiting between my paycheck
02-12-2015 , 07:20 PM
Tall buildings in Los Angeles were required by law to have helipads.

Where did the suggest a guest go? I don't remember this..."1980 MGM Grand Hotel fire in Nevada" "more than 1,000 people were taken from the roof of the hotel by military helicopters" someone must have a story.

Check the guy hand-over-hand climbing down a rope or cable.

Mike also announced that the show would no longer be on the terrestrial airwaves, then had to explain what a podcast was and how to listen (for those who weren't doing so already). Funny to hear it now since the podcast format has become so ubiquitous for anyone under the age of 40.

Although I always found it funny that MJ continued that standard talk-radio practice of reminding listeners who the interview guest is -- in case people were tuning in partway through.

male, 39 (2 weeks from 40), Mundelein, IL (NW suburb of Chicago)

I listen mostly while "grinding" at my chemical fume hood, coming up with new ways to make pharmaceuticals in North Chicago, IL.

When I first got an iPod about a decade ago now the first thing I looked up when I saw the podcast section on iTunes was poker. Rounders was the very first podcast episode of anything I listened to, which is probably now in the thousands of episodes (Carolla, Maron, anything Dan Carlin, and Revolutions are the current staples other than the pokercast. I liked Serial, but think Carlin's Hardcore History blows it out of the water).

Thanks guys for years of entertainment.

Tennessee, USA......while I work. Pokercast is the best in the biz. 2-3 hours of good content every week.

What's up 2p2. Chagrin Falls, Ohio, USA here...( just outside of Cleveland )I listen to the podcast normally when I am cleaning the house...lol, yes, while I am cleaning the house...put on the bose headphones and off we go...the 3 hours perfect. The man of the house is the cleaner of the house..and if a room needs painted, the wife steps in and bust it out...it's how we roll!

I've been listening to the show now for about 100-120 episodes...I enjoy it a lot. Love the interviews, wish there was a little more rec player stuff...I think the new team is getting into a good groove...didn't like the first few episodes, but the last 4 or 5 have been much better.

I am a rec player...travel to WSOP in Vegas for about a week to 10 days each year, play the the daily deepstack a lot, plus have played in 3 bracelet events. I also travel to some of the circuit events. Biggest cash is $9k, with a lot of cashes $1k - $3k.
It is a fun profitable hobby...I take it pretty serious and wish I could play more, but the family, career, friends all come first.

I basketball officiate during the winter, so I take a lot of time off the felt from November to March and spend the time in the high school basketball gyms.
Can't wait for wsop cincinnati, will be down there for a week...and REALLY looking forward to vegas and the Collosus, hope to play in the millionaire maker or monster stack as well.

Keep up the good work!

Long-time lurker here from Portland, Oregon.

Yes, Portlandia is all true.

I started listening and playing online at about the same time. Felt like right before Black Friday (Gray Thursday?). I fast-forward through the Isle of Man segments these days. It's just disheartening.

Luckily, Portland has some great live action. I play some of the best small-stakes NL games around town and it's a blast.

You guys are all welcome any time you want to make the drive down the 5.

Cardiff, Wales.

Listen mostly when cooking, sometimes when driving to work. Caught pretty much every episode since Black Friday.

I must say I was a bit dubious as to how it would work with Mike gone, but you've done a great job. Adam has really settled in to the role as lead host and the chemistry with Terence is great and sets him way above the previous "guest" hosts (with respect to them though). Ross' production is improving too

On a side note, here's my son's favorite song at the moment:

Listen while grinding micro tourneys.

Started listening a few years ago, only for the password to the invitational. Realized very quickly that the whole show is worth listening.

Usually listen while working out or going to sleep. I'm the one who complained the music was too loud and would wake me up.

I'm a live 2/5 grinder and occasional tournament player. Thoroughly enjoy the show.

P.S. Give Doyle a break, he's old.

Been listening for a few years - stumbled across the show looking for a replacement for the Scott Huff/Gary Wise podcast when that finished.
I listen on the journey to & from work - just heard the request so you can see I'm normally a few weeks behind!
You guys are my main source of poker news & gossip.
Thanks to you all

I'm an artist for a mobile game studio and have been listening to you guys while I'm working for a few years now, I heard you mention the thread on the show a few times and thought I'd chime in. I don't even play poker outside of occasional games with friends, I've just always had a fascination with the game and the community surrounding it, and I look forward to the Pokercast every week to keep me informed about that world. Keep up the good work with the show guys, I agree with a lot of these folks that Terrence is thus far doing a great job of filling MJ's shoes.

I run a small but successful business that a friend of mine started (in fluid power), I was "thrown into the fire" to do so when a small crew that we had backed out and we were the only 2 standing in the middle of the building with machinery being put into place.

I am also the part time stage and bass guitar tech for the violent femmes.
Before that, I was lucky enough to chase my dream and worked my way into getting my band "The Buzzhorn" signed to Atlantic records in the early 2000's.

I have never been afraid to chase my dreams and risk everything in order to live life to the fullest.
The reason I bring this up is to tell you this quick little story.

When the record deal crashed, I was crushed and became very depressed/reclusive, before that I was very out going person.
Poker saved me and brought me back out into the world and I developed a great passion for it!
That passion continues to grow each day, I love to push myself everyday to become better at all of the games.
The passion has grown to the point to where I just put my notice in at work and I have paid poker refugees to help move me to costa rica to get back to playing online.

During one of the recent podcasts, terrence (who is a great addition to the show) was talking about the crime in costa rica. I wanted to ask him what he thought about playa del coco, taramindo and that general area.
This info would really be appreciated, I want to go with as much info as possible.

Thanks so much for a truly great podcast, and If I am ever lucky enough to win a title/bracelet, then out of the pure love for the game...you will see an ambassador like no other!

So cool, the Femmes are in my top 5 favorite bands of all time with The Clash, The Smiths, Talking Heads and the Police.

What are Ritchie/Gano like to work with?
02-15-2015 , 01:17 AM
@Adam,

Very cool that the femmes are in your top 5!
I will have to let them know.

I have so many cool stories that I could tell you.
I will also be out on the road with them june 22nd thru july9th...then back to costa rica.

Its a crazy scene with ritche and gano, I can say that I have never been treated greater. Being on the road with them is a dream, its high pressure, but a dream nonetheless.

Maybe if a few of the stories are interesting enough, I could call in from the road for the podcast? I could give you some cool femmes stories and an update on taking a shot in costa rica??

Here is a quick story....

They were playing at southpoint in vegas, over the pool, sold out show.
Southpoint was holding a 1 table sng and was advertising "come play against brian ritchie from the violent femmes".
So after rushing to set up and soundcheck over the pool, I go back up to my room to try and sleep for 30 min (I played all night at bellagio), when I got a call from brian(Ritchie).
He said "hurry up and get to my room, teach me how to play nlhe quick and then escort me to my table".
So I ran down to his room and we had 15 min to get to the table.
I explained the basics and also told him to get as many chips in the pot as possible if he was pretty sure he had the best hand.

We walked up to the table and he had on the trademark sunglasses that he always wears.
I was standing right behind him and I could see his cards, he pulled 3 amazing bluffs (when his opponent should have never folded, but they did) and soon after he got hit with the deck! Unreal.

He finished 3rd and took down a small amount of prize money!
Haha...He was really happy.

They are great to work with, hands down.

So if you are ever interested in maybe doing something for the podcast, just msg me...I have a ton of great stories that have brought me to this point.

You have a great show, This is the greatest game in the world!, and let's keep in touch
