Re: Suggest a guest or segment

Amen to the o/8 crowd. Ray Zee would be good for that side of the house. Or Buzz from the o/8 forums. I've got as much good advice about my game from Buzz on 2+2 (indirectly) as I have from anyone.

+1 on Buzz. 2+2 legend deserves some airtime.

Re: Suggest a guest or segment

I didn't listen to the earlier version of the show- the 2+2 era is all I know, and I'm enjoying it so far. I realize what you guys have to work with, but I can't say I love the interviews over the phone- the audio quality is rough at best. I like the interviews conducted in the Bahamas, but I know that tournament coverage is supposed to be an exception. How about banking some interviews in person, covering general topics and then near broadcast date, doing a supplemental phone interview covering timely issues?

As far as guest suggestions, I'd like a 75/25 mix of Poker champions and authors, if you score a twofer guest, even better (Dan Harrington). I see that Poker Stars is sponsoring you-fine. I'm most interested in hearing from Card players, but if you occasionally have someone talk about Mouse Poker, I'll bear with you.

Would be cool to give some weekly updates on the Supernova elite race. There is a big thread on it in internet gambling, and scottyy, a Pokerstars VIP guy, updates regulary!

Did you guys ever discuss the KGC's "ruling" over the AP scandal? Are there any other online poker rooms that they oversee? Any more word on the UltimateBet rumors of inproprieties?

Re: Suggest a guest or segment

Questions for Ray Zee podcast:
1) Why have you stayed out of the poker limelight for so long?
2) Did it bother/flatter you to be generally considered a made-up person based on works by other "experts"?
3) Are you made up?
4) Why did you disappear from the public eye after writing your book?
5) Why are you coming out now?
6) Would you ever consider writing a follow-up to your hi-lo bible with a pot- and no-limit version? (Highly sought-after content.)
7) Will you ever play in the World Series? (You're considered the God of hi-lo split games, after all.)
8) Now that 2+2 has tracked you down and there's a voice attached to the name now, will you be making more public appearances/doing more interviews and/or playing more big tourneys?
9) Do you really eat beaver? Etc., etc., etc.

Hey Stu,

Ray is on the radar for sure. And I think he'd be great. We just didn't want to have all the 2+2 authors on the show in the first few weeks. Want to space them out a bit. Expect to hear Ray within the next 6 weeks pending his availability

Re: Suggest a guest or segment

I would like to hear Chad Batista on the podcast. Recently he was on Cardplayer-tv and his story is interesting. He dropped out of school got in trouble and became an outstanding poker player. I read somewhere that he railed some tournaments and developed his strategy. For someone who has never read a poker book his game is very good and few can match his success. His approach to the game is very solid even though he doesn't use math like most online tournament players. I'm impressed with the kid and his results. He's no fluke.

Re: Suggest a guest or segment

I mentioned this in the thread for this week, but I figure it would be good here too. Get Jack McClelland on the show and see what his side of the "show one, show all" controversy is. If it's really to prevent needling players, I think Jack needs to reconsider what valid poker strategy is, because getting in your opponent's head is definitely a valid part of the game, and he's doing that part of the game a disservice. But hearing his side of the story would definitely be useful.

Ray, a Stud Hi segment would be great. Its a tough form of poker to play live outside of LA, Foxwoods, (or heaven forbid the Taj). Any perspectives on how Stud Hi live is played today and what its worth is as a cash game?

when its going its great as there arent the large number of good players around anymore. but with the limited games its important to be good at it because when games come along they can be quite good.

I Caught up with brad at the Aussie millions and was shocked at how open he is : its a must to get him back on !
and ask him about beating the 5-10 game in Van for 285k in 3 months

Re: Suggest a guest or segment

Ray, I'd love to hear what you think of OHL today as opposed to when you wrote your book. And if you play PL or NL08 online. While it's still a niche game, there seem be be a lot more good, or at least big stakes, players these days who make it semi-popular online. Notice on some sites that's all the pros play. Rarely NLHE.

I'd love to see an entire Podcast about poker games other than NLH. Perhaps you could consider following it up with a Pokercast freeroll of H.O.R.S.E.

Cool Re: Suggest a guest or segment

I have a "must do" segment suggestion. I am a blogger on several forums and on practically every forum I read there are way to many posts that amount to "whining about bad beats".

I am not a pro but even I know that there are a million reasons to make a play that have nothing to do with hand strength. My own personal feeling is that online poker, because of it's widespread availability and relative anonymity, lends itself to whining by every whining little creep around. The perspective is based on the fact that most of the "bad beat","I've gotta vent" blogs usually don't have enough information to critically analyze what happened and the tone is frequently that the whiner only plays AA, KK, AK and QQ on the button and if he's beat it's a "bad beat".

I think no pro should talk publicly about tactical poker unless he has a section on indicators, other than hand strength, that form a valid basis to play.

If I had a dollar for every whiner I heard screaming calling people donkeys, on the way to the losers lounge after playing weak hands, then getting caught going all in UTG with Jacks - I'd be Bill Gates.

Maybe if more discussion made it clear that poker is situational these jokers would have a better understanding that Ace rag is not a lock and a better understanding that much of what people call the play of a "donkey" lies in their own lack of knowledge of the game.

Re: Suggest a guest or segment

I wonder if there's a podcast topic to be done based on the "Big Game" in places other than California, LV, or Atlantic City. For example, in Chicago and Milwaukee, the biggest limit games are 30-60 and I imagine it's a much different experience than in LA or at the Bellagio. Minnesota is also known for big limit games in the midwest.

In LA and Vegas 30/60 is a stepping stone to the big limits, its not even close to to being big... its practically low limit! Minnesotas biggest game is 30/60, and everyone knows the worst hold'em players in the world live in Minnesota
