The MJ "hit em in the face" drop is super tilting.
07-27-2015 , 12:54 AM
I like the use of drops but i agree the levels can be a bit of a mess to the listening quality. But hey my opinion might be a little off on drops as I listen to Tim and Sid on sportsnet (previously fan590 radio) and to this day I smile or laugh every time they hit their horns drops and ive heard that drop hundreds of times.
in that same train of thought as Tim and Sid i think part of the drops they use are kinda set as listeners get familiar with them ie horns for something good or super horns really good. you guys will find your groove in terms of drops and continue to put out awesome shows as usual.

Drops are best when they are subtle. Ross finally hit the sweet spot IMO on last weeks show. Everytime someone would say the name Butteroni, and Ross would drop the Homer Simpson "mmmmm" drop, I would literally LOL.

I like all the drops. "He just won a poker bracelet" had me cracking up. They don't really bother me at all.

You're referring to the most recent episode with Jesse Martin? Couldn't agree more — still listening to this episode, but I thought the same.

In a sort of +1 post to what the majority of opinions seem to say in the thread:

The drops are fine, some are great, some ok and they add to the show for sure. However, when the drops start to interfere with what guests or T is saying it can get a little annoying. It's a question of timing I suppose, but the longer drops during these instances are definitely more troublesome. What is particularly annoying is often I can't make out what is being said by the guest/Terence, yet at the same time you lose the drop because of what they are saying. Hence you get neither one, nor the other, just noise.
Having said that, that's just a minor quibble which some fine tuning/practice can iron out (& perhaps a little self discipline as your finger is hovering over the trigger Ross )

Just to add: the intros to the segments Ross has made up are an outstanding addition to the show. These are sort of drops and I think they are great. The 'in case you missed it' intro is fantastic, (my entire ice hockey knowledge is solely based on what you say in this show, but the whole 6 by 4 and he comes up zero etc is great). The 140 or less intro is also superb. They are the same every week, quite long, yet I still enjoy listening to them; the mark of a job well done.

I have been listening to the show since maybe the mid double figures (show 50 odd?) and I think the production quality is now better than ever. I know in another thread some people were giving you guys a bit of a hard time with some 'slightly less than constructive criticism'. I wouldn't take it to heart. Pretty much every show is a resounding success. You guys are doing a great job and I imagine a lot of people have a lot of appreciation for that. I certainly do. I listen to a number of podcasts, the pokercast is my favourite by far. And i honestly head and shoulders above any other poker podcast.

I actually say "6 by 4 and he comes up zero" along with the intro. Love that part.

Oh No! Oh yes, he missed it! I also find myself saying the intro out loud with the show. I also love the modified " Terrence Chan, needs more than 140 characters to express his self"

If you could find videos/ audio for these PH quotes and were able to put them in at the right moments I think these would be good

But they forgot one thing: I can dodge bullets baby!
“It’s just so sick.”
“If there weren’t luck involved, I would win every time.”
“Did you see what this idiot just did?”
“Nice hand buddy.”
I mean, the guy can’t even spell poker.”

That's one of the few I like..

I'm a new listener, although I do now listen to the show with a near-religious fervor.

I'm a huge fan of the drops. Keep 'em all, although I don't pretend to understand many of them yet. I'm not done with 377, but I thought there was going to be a poll about booting the Doug Lee drop vs. the Phil Ivey drop. I'd vote to kick the Ivey drop off the island. We all need a bit more Doug Lee.

I'm voting Doug Lee off

More Kessler drops. Makes me smile.
08-29-2015 , 12:01 AM
I'm not sure if anyone has mentioned it yet but could we please loose the doug lee drop?

Besides that I am enjoying every other drop and agree that Ross has hit the right spot in the latest episode with elwood.
08-29-2015 , 12:16 AM
WHAT IS WRONG WITH YOU PEOPLE THAT ARE VOTING TO KILL THE DOUG LEE DROP?
08-29-2015 , 12:28 AM
I want the Doug Lee drop to survive because I suggested it, but it seems to be doomed
08-31-2015 , 03:49 PM
I absolutely hate the idea of "Drop Survivor" and really hope you abandon that idea.

If the purpose is to help move things to the point where drops are better timed and not overused, there are much less heavy-handed ways that you can encourage good behavior and discourage bad behavior on Ross's part. For instance, you could hook his genitals up to jumper cables, and if he uses the "he just won a poker bracelet" too much, you connect the other ends to a car battery. A few of those and I'd be willing to be he will start using a lot more discretion.

But having people vote drops off just seems disrespectful and a little condescending. If poker's taught us anything, it's that it takes time and practice to do things well, and you should give Ross the chance to grow and learn in his production role - using guidance (and the occasional electric shock) as learning tools rather than outright prohibitions.

^Bryan Bishop, who engineers the Adam Carolla Show (and thus handles the drops), has stated on that show how drops will come and go organically. He has isolated little bits that he thought for sure would take off, while others have been surprisingly popular.

So yeah, I don't love the Drop Survivor concept. However, if I have to pick one between the recent two, I'd lose the Doug Lee one just because I'd love a shortened Ivey "that's nasty" drop.
09-02-2015 , 08:47 AM
i really dislike "drop survivor". i think that adam is trying too hard to come up with new gimmicky segments.lets the conversation/show/drops develop organically.the drops are going to come and go organically. where is the point?adam please listen to T and stop drop survivor
09-02-2015 , 02:14 PM
I am not a fan of the drop survivor either. Just keep the drops short and don't repeat the same ones all the time.

That being said I love the "Straight cash Homie" - Randy Moss. I actually use this all the time in conversations all the time because I think it's hilarious. Nobody ever knows what I'm talking about and probably thinks I'm an idiot. I don't care what they think though. It makes me laugh. On second thought, maybe I could just convince Ross to follow me around and play this drop.
