You have been in isolation for too long.

So what if there's some "MMA dudes" who go vegan and love it? Who cares? What does that prove? There are also dudes who literally eat nothing but meat (no vegetables, no nuts, no seeds, no grains, literally 100% meat) and feel like they perform well. Does that mean I think an all-meat diet is great for everyone? Nope!

I have zero, zilch, zip interest in vegan/paleo/carnivore/whatever polemic. It's just as bad as politics these days. There are people out there who want to have reasonable discussions about fine-tuning performance and health, and there are religious zealots who just hang out in their echo chambers all day.
Yes, I did want to know your reaction, which you have given. Anyone can perform well on any type of diet on a short term basis. If your goal is long term longevity and health, then a diet based on whole unrefined plant foods is far superior to one that emphahsizes (for example, over 20% of caloric intake) animal based foods. This is evident by studying long lived populations. I'm not advocating that veganism is the ultimate health answer, but what I am saying is that eating more "whole unprocessed" fruits, vegetables, beans, grains, nuts and seeds in one's diet is important for long term health and longevity. The trend to minimize complex carbohydrates, found in whole plant foods, while emphasizing animal fat/protein in place of it is troubling.

This was mentioned on Science Friday a while back. No idea TChan had so many varied interests.

Harvard T. H. Chan School of Public Health

I guess we should be listening closer to the advice he gives on nutrition and so on.

Thank you again for sharing your views on this! Always a pleasant surprise to see.

Ok, we’ve had the Monty Hall problem discussed in the show, but this came up in the pub the other night as we have just had the 20th anniversary of Who Wants To Be A Millionaire and a return of the show presented by Jeremy Clarkson.

The scenario is that you have no clue or inkling for an answer, but you have your 50/50 left.
Should you pick an answer, use your 50/50 and then change your answer, or doesn’t it make a difference?

There are four possibilities, each equally likely:
  • The answer you pick is the first of the two removed by the 50/50
  • The answer you pick is the second of the two removed by the 50/50
  • The answer you pick is not removed, and is the right answer
  • The answer you pick is not removed, and is the wrong answer
Given that the answer you pick is not removed, you still have a 50% chance of picking the right answer, so it does not make a difference.

Monty hall will always remove a wrong answer from the ones that you did not pick, but here you might have the answer that you picked removed.

I agree. There is an equal chance the answer you randomly picked is removed vs. not.

Although there is the chance that if you talk out loud about you thinking it might be answer C and then letting them do the 50/50, they might keep answer C a higher % of the time if the game isn't completely random, in which case changing your answer might be +EV.

That was what I’d worked out too. It was harder to explain to my mate who swore blind it was the optimal strategy.

What's up with this Supreme Court ruling on sports betting? Does it mean that USA market is in for a huge influx of silly people betting on the Chicagos and Pats beyond all reason, with no consideration on the line? Does it mean the rake goes to unbeatable b/c punters don't care about rake?

You guys should have JoeTall on to talk about it. He's also biggest genius on getting a cab to take the back route in Vegas I know.

More importantly, are we going to have walk-in betting parlors lining our streets where one can throw down a hundo on some animated pony track?

Clearly true. We need some 2nd quarter NBA prop with ridiculous vig, for freedom. Any state. Any time. (OK, not really what the ruling leads to, but still).

I know.. Checking the thread to see if anyone else had similar comments. I few months back we were told the shows would be getting shorter, with hopes that they would be more frequent. Instead, all we are seeing are shorter, less frequent shows. 3-4 years ago the podcast was putting out 2-3 hrs of content weekly. Now it seems we are lucky to get 2-3 hrs/month. The guys are busy. Family, kids, jobs, etc.. Life happens-I get it. Just unfortunate.

Ya, it's been tough.

Terrence had a baby, Ross got a job and I was dumb enough to put up my hand to volunteer to be the president of our local hockey association. Full-time job that doesn't pay anything!

We'll do our best and see where it goes. Recording today at 6pm PST.

Adam was sat next to Todd Witteles on day 2 of the 1500 Omaha 8.
The battle of the podcasters is on.

Is the podcast dead? Adam seemed to suggest as much on Twitter!
06-09-2018 , 12:51 PM
Here's the tweet in question

I'm a little more optimistic than "the podcast is dead"

perhaps it becomes a once a month thing instead of a once a week thing

My father abandoned me when I was young and I turned out OK, so I'm just going to throw it out there that if Adam and Terrence just leave their childrens' lives to focus on the podcast it'll likely all turn out for the best.
