what happened to the witty intros? is the new mellow intro music too relaxing for sarcasm?

is there a link to podcast?

Khabib,

While we talk about MMA occasionally, it's primarily a poker podcast. You posted many questions, which would take quite a while for Terrence to answer so we won't be doing that on the show.

Terrence might, however, answer them in this thread when he gets some time.

I do a lot of work with a mobility coach named Kate Galliett. It's a combination of neurological work with foot/toe mobility, short foot exercises, eversion/inversion stuff. We did an assessment at her place and she gave me a lot of drills specific to me and my situation but she has some general stuff on her youtube channel here

Do you ever use a yoga ball in ur ab workouts?

Not really, I tend to just use the ab roller a lot. I like using the yoga ball for solo guard passing drills though (see Jeff Glover on this topic).

How important is the speed bag? Is this something every fighter should be incorporating into their workout everyday?

I have no idea tbh. I mean obviously there are lots of world-class MMA fighters, Thai fighters and kickboxers who don't use speed bags. But boxers have been using it forever so obviously they find value in it. I don't really feel qualified to answer this. I personally find the double-end bag a bit more useful since it's somewhat more realistic.

Have you seen the joe rogan podcast with nick curson and his training methods which say lifting weights has little benefit for many fighters?

I didn't listen to that particular JRE. But while Nick Curson is much smarter than I am or ever will be on this topic, he's also selling a product. Speed is important. But I think MMA does have a few specific components were pure strength is relevant, so I continue to lift weights 1-2x/week.

At what point does weight just become to much of a factor in a fight, as in throw out some hypotheticals, can a 150lb guy who has been training mma for 6 months beat a 200lb decently in shape man who goes to gym 4x/week, lifts heavy, but never been in a real fight?

Yeah, I mean the 150lb guy would be a lot like JC Alvarado (who's actually closer to 160), who would tear up an untrained but athletic 200lb guy.

At about 135lbs the fight would be a lot more fair. Or if the 150lb guy had only 2 months training.

You have yet to lose, do you think you will ever face a loss in the octagon? Is it likely or forseeable that a defeat will cause you to re-evaluate the fight game? A lot of fighters with similiar records will take a loss and end up moving on to something else.

I've lost. I've lost by decision in an amateur boxing match, I've lost probably dozens of jiujitsu competition matches, and I recently lost in the first round of an MMA tournament in Macau. Maybe I've never lost in a major MMA cage match, but I'm sure I will. I've never had the ego to think that I'm so great just because I'm 3-0. I've trained with enough beasts to know I'm not special.

And you're totally right, losing for the first time changes people. I don't know how I'll react. I hope I'll react well.

Do you ever worry about brain trauma? Is hard sparring something that you do a lot of?

Yes I do, and I try to keep hard sparring to only the last couple weeks before the fight. (My coaches may or may not agree with this tho. :/ )

Do you have any significant others or family that just has a hard time watching you fight? Maybe they care to much about you to see and cant appreciate the competition of the sport given the violence.

Yeah, my mom won't come to a fight. My dad's never been to one either, but I think it's just because he's indifferent. My girlfriend gets both super excited and insanely nervous. My cousins love it and think it's awesome.

What characteristics make a natural fighter? If you were 15 years old, and some1 said that you would take up fighting and step in an octagon was that forseeable?

No idea on Q1. I guess some combination of toughness, athleticism, and emotional intelligence.

At 15 I probably thought that pro wrestling was cooler than real fighting. So that gives you an idea where I was at then.

Were you picked on or bullied as a kid?

Nope. I got suckerpunched once in like Grade 10, but largely was left alone.

Hey guys, here in LA so 8,239 km from Kells.

I have a question about vaping and equipment.

I am a mid-20's guy who has smoked weed heavily and daily for close to six years now. I have a very high tolerance and am very confident in my logic/reasoning abilities while stoned. However, I have low energy daily (am doing yoga most days to help with this), and have a very hard time with portion controls (munchies, trying to work on this via discipline). I believe that the biggest impact that smoking marijuana while playing poker has on me is making it harder for me to stay awake after awhile, because there is no denying smoking for hours a day causes drowsiness, thus cutting down on the amount of hours I can focus during sessions after a work-day.

I don't really care for coffee as it tends to send my stomach in jittery over-time, so I try and save that for extreme situations (driving, work projects, etc.). Terrence's comment about using low doses of nicotine as a stimulant made me think of getting an e-cig setup to try and lower my marijuana usage to try and give myself more productive hours throughout the day and saving it for after I need to be productive; and using nicotine through-out the day and while I play poker.

So I guess my main questions are, how strong of e-liquid should I get? I am assuming 1.5 or 3 mg. Also I am curious which of the starter kits on VapeWild Ross would recommend for a beginner, the Eleaf Starter Kit or should I just get one of the fancier SMOK Alien kits?

Thanks for the help guys, and congrats on the job Adam!

I know you guys are aware of the fantastic degen/dumpster fire NVG thread started by Marc Klang (ipuntstacks) earlier in the week. Biggest NVG thread in years.

Marc has been looking for podcasts on which to tell his story. He was on Limon's live stream last night (it was a terrible interview). Doug Polk backed out of interviewing him after initially agreeing to do so. Chicago Joey does not want to interview him. Marc is planning on being on the Poker Fraud Alert podcast tomorrow (Wednesday).

You guys may want to reach out to him to get him on the 2+2 Pokercast. After all, Marc chose 2+2 to be the place where he broke the story initially.

Spoiler:
You may want to run it by Mason first.

Great thread, read all of it.

Honestly don't think our podcast is the place for stuff like this. I can't put my finger on exactly why, obviously the legal issues would be a concern but mostly feel like it could all end very badly.

I'll sit back and listen to Todd interview him tomorrow.

Thanks for replying. Respect your decision. (You may want to mention the story anyway.)

Completely understand not wanting to deal with this main issue on the show, but highly recommend considering the degen stories that were shared on podcast/youtube with Larry Legend if you can. Amazing stuff

Just wanted to thank Terrence for making me aware of such an amazing thing as shirataki noodles. Following my 700kcal/day diet, which I found impossible without these noodles, I've already lost 7 kg since new year, at which pace not only will I for the first year ever actually hold my new year's promise, but not even exist this time next year. I came here looking for poker knowledge and walked away with something worth much more.

Keep up the good work,
Aron from Uppsala Sweden, 3.7 million Stanley Cups from Kells (none of them engraved with the Sedin brothers' names).

15 pounds in a month seems like a lot if you are already a tiny person.

I was more focused on the 700kcal/day. That's pretty restrictive, as in even when a doctor recommends caloric restriction it's around 1000kcal/day.

I've been listening to the show off and on for a year or two. Catching back up right now and only a couple of episodes behind now. Recently I've been curious of the origin of the distance from Kells thing, so I searched the where are you from thread and the earliest mention was post #434. I'm wondering if that was the first instance and just started a trend or there was something else that started it? Great job on the pokercast - keep it up.

That's where it started. And that poor listener probably was thinking everyone had forgotten about the origins by now. If he's still listening after being the butt of one of the longest running jokes on the show. (I'm not judging; I gave my location in astronomical units from Kells)

Thanks for the response. I remember hearing your astronomical units on the show and thought it was hands down the best one.

Hey guys just catching up on the shows ; love the podcasts, as always , but wanted to add my 2 cents about a subject that is greatly misunderstood in the west... Duterte

Now I realize that this is not, by all means, a political show (even though you guys do like to through random opinions around), but given that I generally respect/agree with you guys intake on things, to see you say that Duterte is WAY worse than Trump, is utterly cringe-worthy, imho.

For the record, my long term gf is originally from the Philippines (we now live in Vietnam), reads (almost) obsessively about Filipino politics, as a way to fill that nostalgia emptiness of living abroad (I think...). Anyhow, to compare the english-based- western political articles to the Tagalog ones (as far as I know, none of you guys read the news in Tagalog or are in the Philippines...) is lol. So I ask you this : why is it that Filipinos love Duterte? Is it that they are utterly ignorant (thus we know better than they do through translated/filtered news)? Or perhaps they know something we don't/have been through much worst and corrupted governments in the past (when news wouldn't make it to the west, given that it was not sensational enough...).

Anyhow just my 2 cents and perhaps some more feedback to think about before throwing Duterte underneath the bus next time... I have mixed emotions about Duterte's hardcore/at times fascists politics, but the fellow cares 1000 times about his people than lol Trump does. End of rant.

Peace

It's high time we had Limon back on the PokerCast! Hilarious interview last year, and just a fabulous poker mind and communicator. He always has great stories to share, plus this past year, he's been embroiled in a big feud with former buddy and Crush Live Poker head honcho Bart Hanson. Even Dave Tuchman just called him out on his Under The Gun podcast, saying that Limon is just "disgusting". Would love to have Limon present his side of the story.

Aside from that, I have a NLHE hand I'd love for you guys to analyze:

I'm sitting in a 5-5 full ring game at Commerce Casino, and the main villain -- a middle-aged guy in a really nice business suit (e.g. monogrammed cuffs and cuff links) -- sits down at the table. For the next hour, he proceeds to play about 50% of his hands, sometimes limping, sometimes raising. While he hasn't gotten out of line, he did buy a cheap, plastic chip protector from another guy at the table for $100! The item probably cost no more than a $1, and the guy who sold it to him was flabbergasted that he would pay such a huge amount for it. The businessman just shrugged and said he wanted it.

We finally get involved in a hand, when he raised in the cutoff to $20. Figuring that I probably had a decent post-flop edge on him, I called in position with Jc8c on the button. SB folded, but BB called. The villain has $450, and I have him covered.

Flop: Ac Kd 6c
Villain leads for 60
Hero calls
SB check/folds

Turn: Qc (Hero makes second-nut flush)
Villain checks
Hero bets 150
Villain thinks for awhile, jokes about wanting to shove, then finally calls

River: 4c
Villain: snap all-in, saying “now i shove!" (laughs, smiling at me)

Decision: Should hero call for 220? How likely is it that Villain holds Kc? Is hero getting odds to call no matter what versus Villain's river shoving range? Or is a fold sometime justifiable here?

(hero's action and reveal of villain's cards below)...

Hero shows Jc and finally folds. Villain shows Ah 10c.

heroe: shows Jc, vill keeps talking, folds
villain shows AhTc

When are we going to get a new pokercast weekly game? How about monthly? I did enjoy playing the odd game. Surely your could offer prizes instead of cash. Subscriptions to training or sharkscope. E-liquid.....
How about monthly for the rest of the year. Best 3 results count.. Just for fun.

Are you referring to the PokerStars weekly PokerCast tournament? I miss that too (even the play money one) but I'm guessing that was a creature of the PokerStars sponsorship which has ended.

New term… PokerCast “run bad”. This is defined as not cashing in the weekly home game/tournament I play in, then getting a speeding ticket on the way home while listening to this week’s podcast.
Just kidding… love the show, you guys do a great job, keep it up!
