Pokercast Episode 64 - Brian "tsarrast" Rast & the return of Danny Robison

Live from the Two Plus Two Studios, March 24th, 2009 -

The feature guest this week on Pokercast is high-stakes professional poker player Brian "tsarrast" Rast. Brain comes on the program to discuss several topics including how he built his bankroll, the Bellagio coin flipping incident and tells all about the nose bleed Holdem and Pot-Limit Omaha online cash games. Danny Robison shares a great tale about poker etiquette in this weeks 'Story Time With'. Mike and Adam also talk some tournament news, forum static and of course give away the password for the March 29th Poker Stars VIP Club Invitational for Pokercast listeners.

I was scared to death of him when I was a kid. I remember the really old school logo that was etched into the glass in the restaurants.. Growing up in Cape Breton, I had no idea why any sort of non-molester would dress like that.

Great episode. I thought this was a great episode and it was cool that tsarrast was on because he was one of those guys that i had no idea really who he is but see him playing all the time. Was really awsome.

Also, the story the Danny Robinson told was SO SO SO funny.

It shouldn't be too hard for busto microstakers (like myself) to get an FPP.

The rake must reach $0.40, which usually happens at about the 8 dollar mark.

An even easier way is just to play a 1.10 or 1.15 SNG/DoN.

Come on Mike - How can you hate "The Colonel"

I thought me and my wife were the only people on the planet to quote from that movie.

Oh, he'll be crying himself to sleep tonight on his huge pillow

Another great show as always guys!

Good interview with Brian Rast. I love to hear great players come on and humbly be very open about everything.

The Danny Robison story was classic! .. haha .. Loving the new story time feature.

Explaining how the nosebleed players are competitors and coworkers at the same time along with all of the etiquette stuff involved was really interesting.

Re: Pokercast Episode 64 - Brian "tsarrast" Rast & the return of Danny Robison

Great Show again this week.

The story about the betting line was awesome. Especially the running around firing chips part had me laughing tears.

Brian Rast was pretty amazing to listen to as well. Made me want to get better at PLO and also to reread a lot of books and look for some new ones (even though there were no specific suggestions). Particularly enjoyed hearing about the "blind" c-flip guy.

As to the adjustments made to the Freeroll go, I have to say that I was very happy about the changes that were announced. This really made me look forward to the tournament again after losing probably most of my enthusiasm due to sitters/multi-accers/non-listeners. Actually set a reminder for the tourney this coming weekend on my cellphone. TY guys for the changes

The Internet Censorship Issues that were discussed in the beginning are something that really worries me though on some levels. I feel that these discussions start popping up in a lot of countries recently. I'd need to look it up again but I think I read somewhere that politicians in Germany were also discussing some sort of Internet filtering in the last couple of months. These are scary trends not only to online poker but to the whole Internet community because the official side (e.g. governments/politicans/the news) always introduce some alibi reason for why this censorship would be warranted. (mostly to protect people and increase their safety) This obviously creates a flawed perception among regular people that censorship would be a good thing. Particularly because the official story is that it is always aimed at preventing something that is morally horrible (pedophiles for example) and that is a method to shut up everyone who is publicly opposing filtering. Cause everyone opposing the filtering can then be discredited by asking them if they are not opposed to pedophiles or w/e horrible thing that is said to be the target of the filtering. This basically gives the government a free pass to put whatever sites they like on the list.
A good example for this line of argumenting can be found after school shootings. We recently had a school shooting here in Germany and as in most cases the villain was a lonely guy who was always perceived as quiet and nice (till the shooting of course). Afterwards the police investigation of course reveals that he was playing Counter Strike on his computer and the very next day a f*$%-ton of politicians are crying out for violent video games to be banned or heavily restricted. Of course there are freakin millions of Counter Strike Gamers who would never go on a rampage IRL for every 1 psycho who goes on a rampage but you never hear about those on the news obviously.
I am really opposed to governments regulating the internet in that way because it limits and cuts down on everyones freedom. I could definatly see ISPs who could cater to - lets say - Family Customers by offering a Flat Rate package with filtering in place to protect their kids from harmful contents on the internet.
Government internet filtering to battle pedophiles is about as ridiculous as the government opening every letter or package at the postal station before delivering (which could be done with the same line of argumentation easily).

Re: Pokercast Episode 64 - Brian "tsarrast" Rast & the return of Danny Robison

Comrade is Spanish word. It means "friend". Russian for "friend" is "tovarishch". "Tovarishch" was also used during Soviet years same way as "mister" or "sir" in English speaking countries. So russians never called each other "Comrade" this word just become popular from all the cold war movies.
As for password getting posted on russian speaking forums. You can't do much about it. I believe Stars only happy to see more players in the freeroll but I think about 90% of russian players won't be able to listen to the show just becouse their english not that good. Not that they don't want to. Plus Soviet times taught russians to help each other to fight against the system. And if you put restrictions on them they will be proud to find they way around it and to help others to do it. So just try to beat them in the game and gl with that.

... or all Pokercast Forum Posters flood the russian forum with fake passwords for 6 hours till the tourney starts (with a couple BBV4L volunteers 5k poasts in 6 hrs should be doable IMO) ...

That was a fantastic Story Time segment from Robison. I really enjoy hearing these tales of the old-school players.

Re: Pokercast Episode 64 - Brian "tsarrast" Rast & the return of Danny Robison

Aaand I just got to the end of the show. AWESOME. Thanks for the mention and the hook-up.

Although my poor fiancee. I originally commented about the bacon titties thing of my own accord, but now she has a horrible reputation because it spiraled out of control. Even if I do find it hilarious. I advised her to make an account and defend herself, but we both know that would only make it worse.

Her, reading this now: "Then why would you advise me to do it, you horrible fiance?!"

..."Nooo, that makes it worse! Stop it!"
