Live from the Two Plus Two Studios - The feature guest this week on Pokercast is 2008 WSOP Main Event Champion Peter Eastgate. The guys finally tracked down Peter to discuss his roller coaster ride since being crowned world champion, his feelings on being the new ambassador of poker and his upcoming appearance on High Stakes Poker. A member of the team behind Poker Tracker 3 also chimes in on the program to talk about their latest software release. Later in the show VIP Scotty joins the guys to discuss the Poker Stars VIP Rewards program. I would like to just quote the show, you tired mike??

"MIKE: [Peter Eastgate] openly admitted he wasn't a winning player...he was a losing player for a long time...its refreshing to hear that kind of honesty"
"ADAM: Gives you hope"
banter...
"MIKE: I resemble that comment"

Freudian slip mike??

Another great show. Been listening to the pokercast since earlier this year and wasn't aware this was year one here @ 2+2 for pokercast until it was mentioned this week. Really enjoyed the VIP club stories about what people do with points.
keep up the good work!

Great show all-around. Entertaining and informative.

I was really surprised to hear that only 1-2% of players are using tracking software. That's insane.

I definitely believe that online poker would be a lot more fair if these kinds of products were banned because the edge they provide is absolutely ridiculous, but as long as they're legal, it's pretty much a leak not to own one.

Mike, do yourself a favor and get one. And then do the rest of us PT3 customers a favor and never mention the product on the air ever again.

Yeah I'm happy I found out about this pokercast today! Good stuff.

was there a PhilH refence this week?

Mike and Adam, will you be making any new years resolutions in the yearly wrapup?

I used to feel the same way but just started using it since it's a part of PT3. I think the main reason I felt the need to start was it seems so many other players were as well so I wanted to level the playing field.

The fact that it's available to everyone should ease the mind of anyone who feels it's not fair.

As far as only 1-2% of players using it, that doesn't sound that crazy when you consider how many players are playing only for recreational purposes. I'm sure as you increase in level the percentage of players using HUD goes up. And when most of the community are low limit players, I would assume, then that seems to make sense that the percentages are so very small.

1-2% is very shocking actually. I have been using PT for around 5 years now, I thought everyone knew about it but were just too cheap to spend the money because they arent winning players anyway. That was my theory atleast.

Another good show guys!!

Pretty good show guys, but I was a bit disappointed in the pokertracker segment. It seemed more like an advertisement than an objective informational piece.

Things I would have liked to see:

Talk about how PT got started, whether many in the current team still play much poker, talk about how the original team has changed/grown/shrunk, and where PT hopes to be in the future.

Some mention at least of how buggy PT3 was when it was initially released, what the PT team has learned since then, and what they will do to make sure they don't release a product with that widespread of issues in the future

Asking Derek if there are any plans to make the program more user-friendly. It's not quite DOS-prompt bad, but compared to most commercial software its fairly cumbersome to navigate/learn.

Calling them out on CAKE (one of the "top" sites that PT3 doesn't support and won't support -- even though CAKE will allow pokertracker to track an individual's stats).

Going more into why people should chose PT3 over holdem manager or another tracker.

PS: You guys have posted individual threads before asking for questions to ask specific guests, so why not have a sticky thread of upcoming guests/topics and allow people to post things they'd like to see addressed?

not true, CAKE doesn't want any tracking software to support their network, CAKE does this by design.

Just wanted to send you guys some love from France. I really love the show, I think it's become my favourite now (now that Cash Plays is not on anymore ).
I have a blast listening to it in my car when I go to work. It's funny, informative AND it improves my English! What more could I ask?

Continuez de faire du bon boulot !!! = Keep up the good work guys!

P.S: Mike, you do talk a lot but your voice is NOT annoying! (to a non native English speaker at least )

While I can see how some may look at this particular episode as a little infomercially (tm) I quite enjoyed it. Eastgate seems pretty real and humble which is refreshing. When I saw the list of people who were slated to participate in HSP, I was thankful to see him and Ivan included. There's so many on the list we've seen over and over again, and I know the general public loves these guys and wants to see them on TV, but it's good to mix in some new blood. Sometimes the downfall of PAD is bringing back the same pros to anchor the show too many times. Looking forward to the new season of HSP.

As for the Pokerstars promos and news, being one of the very few on here I'm sure that doesn't really play on Stars, I kinda felt like there's so much time spent talking about AP/UB cheating it's players, stealing from them, hiding it from them and being general db's that it's cool by me to take a little time to talk about how Stars is trying to add more value and cool things for their players. If the interface were more agreeable to me, I'd play there all the time as I think they are one of the good guys. (I hope they are).

I, too, was surprised that this is year one for the Pokercast...I found it early in the year on iTunes and it brought me to two plus two. Haven't missed an episode since, don't plan on missing a future one. Anyway, I'm looking forward to MJ's list of top 2008 albums and want to wish the whole team a Happy Holidays. Thanks for all the great content.

how does the softplay definition apply to softplaying chip leadrs, or pros etc? I play a lot of home tourneys with my wife, and with other couples and we pretty much know there'll be times it'll happen. But personally I don't see it any differently than when I sit at a table and avoid big hands with the chip leader, or avoid big hands with the guy I know is the best player at the table. To me it's almost just like table selection, but more player selection when pressed with big decisions. What do you guys think?

Good episode, nice interview with Eastgate and very informative segment about HU displays/pokertracker, didn't really like the 30 minute pokerstars commercial towards the end but what are you gonna do?

Tournament player doesn't like PT/HM. Shocking.
