If you havent seen it yet rush out to your video store ASAP, its easily in my top ten of all time and it won Duval the Oscar for best actor in 1997.
I agree all around here. The Apostle is a movie that I never thought I would like, and probably never would have even watched it if I had not heard it was such an important project to Robert Duval. On a sort of related note, I have met Duval a few times as he lives in a small town next to my small town in Virginia. I still get a little starstruck when I see him around town or eating in the same restaurant but he is an amazingly nice guy and prefers to be called "Bobby".

Looking forward to listening to the new episode this afternoon. Keep up the good work guys.

great episode. I didnt mind the religious stuff. It enabled him to speak openly about the past as a lot of the stories didnt put him in a good light. You usually dont get people who are so open in interviews.

Top 3 show for the year, great job.

I chose Dan rather than Danny because it seems ever so slightly more common in current use (Hendon Mob for example, and the 1995 WSOP winners page on wikipedia). I did also create a redirect from Danny to Dan.

Good job Steve,

Now we need people to flesh out the page with some details.

Outstanding interview fellas. Danny knows how to tell a story and while he had a Jesus Agenda, for whatever reason I didn't mind. I mean it's not for me, but I'm happy that he's happy. Lastly, as I like to comment on the musical selections, I think you left some musical equity out on the table by not playing a little Depeche Mode "Personal Jesus" when you came out of the break post interview.

For Adam, I saw this on Yahoo News...thought if Mike gets closer to the big day without shedding the pounds you can be a pal and put some cash on it.

Once again, superior product guys which is much appreciated.

Love the pokercast again this week fellas. Nice job the show has been getting better week to week. I recently downloaded the first couple of pokercasts and listened to them. You guys sound alot more comfortable these days. Love the show, site and forums keep up the good work.

First post in the Pokercast area....I do however listen to all the shows and I was curious to get on to see what everyone thought regarding all the "Jesus" talk. It didn't bother me at all and thought it was a great interview (as always!).

Please please get Billy Baxter back for a full interview!

I don't mean to play Monday morning quarterback, but this would have been such a good idea. Great song and it would have given those of us who cringed at the Jesus stuff a little comic relief.

Yeah, we missed a value bet there for sure. My bad.

Yes Stu was definitely Jewish and I was disappointed that Mike had to cut in before we got to hear a a possibly miraculous conversion is soooooo many ways. I pretty sure he married out though, so Stephanie probably isn't unless she converted.

As for the bible thumping stuff, there should have been no debate in the editing room. It is part of who Danny now is and it is a fair quid pro quo for giving up his time, to allow him to do what he says he now does at the poker table: preach.

One cannot pick the bits of people one likes and leave the rest on the cutting room floor.

A terrific show, I could have listed to him talk for hours.

[X] Get Billy Baxter back for more of same

I think it would have been a little rude personally. Funny, but in poor taste. The man just poured his heart out like few ever have on our show, playing that song could have come across the wrong way unintentionally.

Hearing his story first hand was an absolute treat. I can actually imagine a pretty amazing buddy flick "Chip & Danny". From scamming home games in Ohio, thru to crushing the biggest stud games in Vegas, then the descent into drugs, followed by a different kind of redemption for each guy. I'd love to know whether he and Chip were ever approached about a film?

Anyway - great episode guys, and thanks for not cutting him off. I think a little bit of indulgence is the least we can offer in return for such extraordinary anecdotes.

Perhaps Archie Karas next?
I think you're right about Chip and Danny's story translating into a great film. Would love to see it.

I agree, it would have come off as being rude and disrespectful. I'm glad they didn't play it.

The man came on to tell his stories and I felt most of the religious stuff was in context with a story he was telling, IMO. I thought it was interesting that he found god to get clean (on a golf course of all places) and I think that if we would cut it all out it would do a disservice to his stories. Also, he mentioned he wanted to talk about god saving him before the interview and we told him that was fine within reason.

I also think our audience is smart enough to take it for what it is. A man that found something to help him through a troubled time in his life and is now convinced that this tool can help others.

I personally am an atheist/agnostic, FWIW.
What tilts me is the fact that Mike was even considering cutting this out of his storie(s).

You misunderstand or I didn't explain properly. There was ALOT of off-topic preaching that Danny did.

Again, Mike wanted any of the religious stuff that was relevant to the story he was telling, or the questions we asked him, to stay in.

As you can tell, we could have had a three hour conversation with Danny about religion but at the end of the day this is a show (mostly) about poker. I totally understood where Mike was coming from as he is always concerned with making the show as good as it can be.

Sorry Adam, I didn't mean any disrespect sir. I think you and Mike do a great job every week. The way I took it, Mike was wanting to cut out ALL of the religious content, and leave in ONLY the poker/life content. You would have to agree, that would not be good for Danny, or us as the listeners. Again, didn't mean to be rude or disrespectful. Have a good one.
