Loved the Artie Lange/Howard Stern reference. I had just turned off the Stern show when my pokercast finished downloading.

The first problem from Howard was easy:
Spoiler:
Weighting number 1 is 3 balls on one side and 3 balls on the other.
If they are all equal weight the second weighting is simply determined by the two remaining balls.
If one side is heavier than the other the second weighting will be by two random balls of the three from the heavier side.
Two possibilities again: If the weighting is equal, then the third ball not weighted will be the heavy one, or you can easily see which one is heaviest.

On to the next one...

Spoiler:
the first one is put four on each side. than take the four on the heavier side and put 2 of them on each side. this will narrow it down to two u than should be to figure it out by holding them in your hand. manholes are round bc the water comes from a toliet bowl which is also round.
i have no idea about the 3rd one.

Spoiler:

That weighting in your hand is like a third weighting, so your answer is not correct.

what if the heavier ball is only heavier by 1 gram?

Brag: I know the answer to #2

Beat: It's possibly because I work for a construction company.

Spoiler:
It's the only shape that won't fall into itself

Mhmm, the hat problem would make a lot more sense if there were less numbers on the hats than there were # of players. Like if the numbers on the hats would go from 1 to (n-1) then I would have a solution. But from 0 to (n-1), I only get an even distribution.
09-09-2008 , 05:13 PM
Spoiler:
# 3 you get to talk b4 hand so eveyone just says a different number decide that number b4 you even see the hats.

#1

Spoiler:
weigh 3 on each side. If they are the same, weigh the other 2 and you will see the heavier one. If they are different take 2 of the heavier 3. If they are different then you know the heavier one. If they are the same then the odd ball out is the heavier.

2nd Question is easy too.

Edit: Plz put in spoiler box!
