Pokercast Episode #311 - Sam Grafton, Jen Shahade and storytime with Lon McEachern

Live from the Two Plus Two Studios - April 1, 2014

On this April fool's day show, Mike and Adam welcome the UK's Sam Grafton to the show for his first ever Pokercast interview. Sam talks about the poker scene in London, losing his passport at the WSOP, how to tell your backer about the bust-out hand and why he wears American sports apparel. The guys also welcome Jen Shahade back to the program to hear about her new appointment as the Pokerstars mind sport ambassador. Jen also gives us her take on her recent TED talk, as then tells us who the favorites would be in the "best poker playing chess player" tournament. The big story of the week is legislation news including a NY state bill to amend the existing laws regarding online horse racing wagering. In ICYMI the lame poker media April fool's day jokes are discussed, as well as Gus Hansen's successful week at the tables. The WSOP countdown continues and in bump some non-NVG threads are discovered. Finally, the password for the April 6th Pokerstars Invitational is given.

This episode has certainly kept up the streak of very good episodes.

I loved Sam's reply to the question about "new school" players lacking table personality. No one talks about how much literature there is about not giving away info -- thinking of that FBI guy with the book that Phil H was pushing being guide to being a jerk at the table. Also liked his point about some of these MTTs being the guy's biggest buyin of his life and cashing or not being life changing. He had a really balanced perspective.

With Sam in hoping that the new crop of people pushing table presence will help things turn around. Like him, I've met tons of interesting people at the table. The "fish" who can afford to play in decent sized cash games also tend to be people who know a lot about stuff like real estate and investing.

How can you fail to mention NoMeansNo?

What's worse....the shoebomb

Or

At the start of every hockey season, whoever is the last to score has to drink a beer out of their skate. When you score, you fist pump and ride the broom since you are "off the boot".

Video of NFB's animation of 'The Hockey Sweater' :

It's beyond classic. Lamest thing I've ever seen is a 'Toronto-cized' version of the story at Costco, with the lone jersey changed to be Montreal.

I swear, in my show notes that NoMeansNo is on my list. I just forgot to read them when I was talking about.

Saw them several times, fantastic live band.

We've heard Mike's story about finding 4k in his trunks before, right? Listening to it in the car earlier I was sure I'd heard it before. Déjà vu or déjà entendu?

Love the show, BTW. Long time listener, first time poster. I guess the kittens get to make it to next week...

Another good episode except for the 20 minutes of my life wasted on you Canadian socialist hypocrites talking about our political system. Please. If Adelson wants to throw HIS money down the 'crapper'-like the guy at Borgada-so be it! Money is thrown around on both sides of all issues, just ask George Soros or Harry Reid. This used to be a free country. Leave him be, online poker will happen...RELAX! Get back to your wheelhouse...hockey, football, bacon&titties and...POKER!

We spend our whole lives watching your political system. I think the boys are competent observers, with the objectivity of distance.

Socialist isn't a dirty word. It would only be somewhat appropriate for one of the two.

Pretty naive view about Adelson and his influence.

Fake chips have zero monetary value.

You may be right, they have talked about finding lost poker money in the past.

Welcome to the forum!
