are there any good posts that give more detail about the differences between exploitative strategy that other people use VS near-optimal-no-adjustment game theory strategy to HUNL that sauce/ike/kanu use? (mentioned by sauce @ 1:12:30)

RE: petition...

All of the stupid mistakes that Howard appears to have made at FTP.... he cannot do any of those things sitting at a poker table at Aria.

Its not like we're trying to get him fired. DOJ stopped him from "doing his job" already.

Its a terrible idea to discriminate against a person in this way, and by the way its unconstitutional isn't it.

Howard's going to get his in time. Theres no reason for us to slight ourselves to punish some potential slimeball.

Personally, this guy running around with a petition is likely to find out what a bad idea this is. I think it looks quite bad on him to do this.

I guess you must be one of the players in Iveys' Room and don't want the fish banned because you can recoup your FTP losses more quickly by playing against him.

But maybe you should learn the definition of discriminate and also read the constitution as well. I'm pretty sure there's nothing uncostitutional about exercising one's right to free speech.

I don't see why it would be unconstitutional. AFAIK, you can't discriminate on the basis of colour, gender or creed, but not based on other personal characteristics. If THAT were unconstitutional, then casinos would not be able to ban blackjack cardcounters without facing lawsuits. The casino is private property and it is my understanding that they can ban anyone they like, except for the reasons stated earlier in this paragraph.

I support the spirit of this petition. In essence all they are saying is that the presence of Lederer offends them and that if he is not removed they will boycott Aria: they are simply letting Aria know how they feel about the situation and what options they are considering.

A few notes on this podcast...

1) I love the long feature interviews - I think one hour isn't too long at all.

2) When Mike said that Chad Elie was going to the big house, I at first thought he meant Elie was going to see a Michigan Wolverines football game.

3) Usually when Mike and Adam have a vigorous debate, I tend to side with Adam, but in this case I agree more with the points that Mike was making, especially in the "court of public opinion" segment. I think the slippery slope argument is almost always a canard. In my view, when dealing with reality, things are rarely cut and dry and so there is almost always room to use the slippery slope argument as a rhetorical device. Nevertheless, we must draw lines when we make decisions about how to act; we draw and redraw lines according to the specifics of each situation.

Hi Everyone:

I want to add in a couple of quick thoughts here. Before Howard appeared on the 2+2 Pokercast, I, in addition to Mike and Adam, had several phone conversations with him. In one of my conversations, I made it clear that until people received their money back, he was just going to be very disliked no matter what his role in the FTP mess actually was. This he acknowledged and said was completely understood.

So I was surprised when he began to play live poker again here in Las Vegas. My guess is that he felt having the ROW players get their money back, and the US players knowing that they will also eventually get it would be enough to lower the animosity towards him in the poker room and allow him to play in peace. It looks like Nick DiVella doesn't agree.

My next point is that Howard, as long as I can remember, has always played in the biggest games. And when I say big, I can remember games back in the mid-1990s which were as large (or larger) than anything played today. So the idea that he got a bunch of the Full Tilt money and is now off to play in the biggest games available is not true. This is what he has always done.

Best wishes,
mason

Did you guys get angry while debating the petition?

Also, I agree with Mike on the whole Lederer-aria-ban-drama thing.

no, I'm no one special and I don't have a dog in this fight. I also don't think theres a problem with expressing an opinion about Howard or anyone else.

Sauce was a great guest.

I don't think it matters if Howard actually did do anything as far as the ban goes. If Aria's customers are unhappy about him being there then they should take it under consideration. I think a boycott would be more effective. Anyone can sign a petition, it doesn't take any effort.
11-22-2012 , 02:32 PM
More effective would be a promotion by another casino that wants to upgrade their poker room.

11-22-2012 , 04:24 PM
Can't agree with the guy petitioning to get Lederer banned and 250 signatures is a drop in the ocean to the turnover that the casino/ hotel has. They'll probably make more rake off Lederers table than the 250 if they boycott it. They should welcome him back as his money is as good as any's and by all accounts, Howard is not the top shark he thinks he is.

Can't see how Ben is gonna make mega bucks off his staking plan but wish him well, he was very open with his strategy which I liked and by all accounts he seems a top bloke.

Great show as usual ..... I've forgot the fricken PW for the Sunday game so gonna have to listen again. DOH!
