Hero Poker pro Terrence Chan is also featured in studio just days after making his MMA debut to talk about what it was like stepping into the octagon during Battlefield Fight League 11. Leggo Poker coach Aaron aejones talks about 'Setting a Stop Loss' in this weeks Leggo Poker / Deuces Cracked strategy segment. Mike and Adam chat about the Comedy Madness Part 2 finalist, Phil Hellmuth on Storage Wars, the upcoming FTP hearing and of course give away the password for the September 25th Poker Stars VIP Club Invitational for PokerCast listeners.

Re: PokerCast Episode 189 - Shane Schleger & "Crazy" Mike Thorpe

Mike is soooooo wrong on Storage Wars other people win lockers all the time and as you're watching you see the other people bid. Bunner is 100% right that it's a public auction. They use the same auctioneer for the same reason they follow the same four people, continuity. The auctioneer, Dan, works for American Auctions who is hired by the storage facilities to sell the lockers. I couldn't believe someone who speaks the truth sooo often like Mike can be so wrong on this.

However,

AUCTION HUNTERS is staged and there's a disclaimer before the show begins essentially saying so. Any show on TruTV is staged as well. Mike is probably confused with Auction Hunters or is taking their model and applying it to Storage Wars.

Adam please make a bet with him and take his money!

+1. Everything mentioned above was explained in a recent special "Storage Wars Unlocked". Sadly it was not confirmed whether or not Brandi was ever a stripper, though Jarrod was her 'manager'.

We interrupt your Pokercast downloading with your regular Tuesday breaking FTP news story.

Maybe one week you should Rickroll the Pokercast and actually record it Tuesday evening!

While I don't watch the show religiously, I stand by my opinion that the other peoplei n the back row during the auction scenes are just extras. I have not seen anyone other than the four main characters ever involved in any of the bidding.

The cynic in me will even go one further and declare that I believe the producers 'plant' interesting items in the lockers to be found by the treasure hunters. I find it impossible to believe that a locker that is 99% filled with socks and laundry just happens to have a 10th century mayan skull in it. Further, no way in hell these clowns that own 2nd hand junk stores just happen to know an 'expert' on every single item that turns up in the lockers. My guess is they have the item and the expert appraiser picked out ahead of time and that the items are placed in the locker in order to 'make a show'

Has no one else noticed they never really fully empty the contents of the lockers(yeah, yeah editing blah blah blah), it's always 'oh, wait, i think i just spotted something over there among the 400 boxes of 9th grade textbooks. Look, it's an ancient walrus tusk. What a find!!!

oh and also,

Oh Mike it disturbs me how your observation power works for everything but Storage Wars. Next time you watch you'll see that actually 95% of the auctions have other people bidding. When you see the price ticker go up and there's no name next to it, that mean's that someone other than the main characters is bidding. What you call extras are probably 40% bidders and 60% spectators.

There was an episode four weeks ago where everyone BUT Hester bought a locker. And guess what Santa's little helper, they ALL lost money during the tally up at the end of that episode. In terms of them always finding interesting items, like I stated in my last post, they do do that on Auction Hunters. However, I think you're overvaluing a lot of the items your talking about. Since whenever they appraise an item on the show they add the HIGHEST value for it (e.g. it's worth between $1 and $2 thousand, they add $2000 to the running total) you're really being shown the top dollar for each item making them appear more valuable.

My skepticism is more in the fact that the item is in the locker in the first place, not the value. It just seems beyond belief that a locker filled with 99% of one type of junk always seems to miraculously have one or two great items in it, that don't even come close to fitting in with the the other types of items in the locker.

Dave - 'looks like I got a stinker, it's just some old junk from some kids college dorm....oh wait a second, what's that I see over there, a box filled with Victorian era gemstones. Maybe that's worth something.'

They had this "revieled" show in the past weeks where they said that 90+% of the lockers are busts and they drive to the dump ALOT.

Oh btw. Brandy is way to hot for this douche who puts his socks right under his pants.

I love how you guys often seem to miss a huge story by like a half a day or whatever. Not that this is your fault, it just made me chuckle ruefully a little. I would love to hear your take on the breaking FTP stuff.

Re: PokerCast Episode 189 - Shane Schleger & "Crazy" Mike Thorpe

(30:19) Adam Schwartz: "Isn't there anything happy to talk about?"

Exactly....sure this is a Poker show first and foremost, and there's a whole lot of jizz embalming the poker landscape these days, but sometimes I think the show loses sight of just how much it can entertain (yeah really) the listeners thru going to non-poker topics, and letting Mike and Adam just banter.

I was listening recently to the first handul of 'Rounders' shows. MJ apologized time and again for knowing little about poker, and Adam seemed to shy away from the mike. I kept expecting him to tap it, like 'is this thjing on?'

You guys have come so far since then as 'entertainers', and as 'broadcasters'... and as a team. I love it when I actually laugh out loud listening (like I did when MJs voice went up and he said the bet was on!)

MJ brings in his passion for music, which is great, and now there is no more Entourage. But I do think that snippets of discussion about things like Storage Wars, or Mohrstories, or whatever, keeps the show fresh and friendly, and enjoyable. In a climate where poker news right now seems to be a ticker like reading of results, or some new scandal, I found little to 'enjoy' in a couple of recent shows.

Yeah, it's Pokercast, I get that, and I love that...but guys, don't be afraid to bring the funny, no matter where you find it.

When the discussion moved to how the Hendon Mob "ended their relationship" with Full Tilt, I just wanted to shout, That's like Bunner saying "yeah, I'm no longer dating that dead girl."
