Live from the Two Plus Two Studios - The feature guest this week on Pokercast is poker pro and lead instructor at Poker X Factor Eric “Sheets” Haber. Eric gives some great advice on Sit and Go tournaments and talks a bit about his player staking enterprise. The guys tracked down George Lind, who completed the amazing accomplishment of achieving Supernova Elite status by mid-March. Mike and Adam also talk tournament news, forum static and of course give away the password for the April 6th Poker Stars VIP Club freeroll for Pokercast listeners.

Damn it. I totally thought the "it'll be up soon" thing was a prank. I'm glad there's a new Pokercast, but at the same time I'm kind of disappointed.

You're A Wolf by Sea Wolf - saw them open for Nada Surf on Saturday. Had to play the song on account of the hot keyboard player.

Not yet.

Actually it is there. You just can't register yet. My guess is you have your 'show registering events only' box checked off. If you uncheck it, the Pokercast event at 14:55 on Apr 6 should be there listed as announced. Registration begins at 11:55am eastern time on Apr 6.

Thanks Mike, it's strange because I could see other tournaments that were just announced, but more showed up after I unchecked the 'show registering/upcoming events only'. Good show as usual.

I'm totally impressed someone can get 1,000,000 frequent player points in a few months. And the fact that you can take trips to Europe, and lot-o-WSOP buy-ins and plasma TVs and cars and stuff is very very cool.

And, clearly you can have a nice lifestyle by breaking even (does that include your rakeback??) and living off points (you're paying taxes on those "free" prizes, right?).

But, it doesn't seem like a long term proposition to me. If you're breaking even - you're not exactly a winning player. That means you're not taking money from "winning players" - you're taking it from the donks....... and eventually the donks will be busto -- and you're up playing against winning players.

It just seems like a symtom of the poker boom.....that will eventually bust (not that it isn't a good way to live in the meantime)....

Anyone know the payout structure of the 500 stts satellites they were talking about on the show? 500 buyin, top 3 pay 1500? Also what casino?
04-04-2008 , 03:42 AM
They're talking about the single table sats at the Rio during the WSOP. $530ish buyin, typically they pay $3500 to first and $1500 to second, or something along those lines. You get paid in $500 lammers, which you then can use to buy in, or sell to others who are buying in to their tournies.

There are also 2 tables sats, and other variations of one table sats that award different amounts.
04-04-2008 , 03:51 AM
The single tables sats at the wsop are all winner-take-all 10 handed, although deals are often made.
04-04-2008 , 04:11 AM
Great show. TMBG's The Guitar, from Apollo 13!

Good interview with Sheets. He seems sharp as hell. When he was talking about staking 3 people at a $50 rebuy final table and how he wondered who to root for, a good follow-up would be to ask about the ethics of that situation.

Whoops, not sure what I was thinking there. George is correct, I must have been thinking of a chop from last year.

I did update the thread a little with some more info on the villain. I'm pretty sure I was up against AA or QQ and made a good laydown. Forgetting all about pot control in the heat of the moment is a good way to cut your starting stack in half.
