PokerCast Episode 174 - WSOP Preview Show with Amit Makhija & Rich Muny

Live from Two Plus Two Studios, May 31st 2011 - This week on the Two Plus Two PokerCast Hero Poker pro Terrence Chan joins Mike and Adam live in studio to help preview the upcoming 42nd annual World Series of Poker. The guys cover some changes to this year's World Series and speculate what effect Black Friday and the DOJ indictments will have on both tournaments and cash games. The feature guest on the program is young poker pro Amit "amak316" Makhija. Amit joins Mike and Adam shortly after arriving in Las Vegas to talk about his World Series schedule, the recent WSOP bracelet prop bets made by notable poker pros and his second place finish at the 2008 WPT Legends of Poker. The guys also connect with Rich “TheEngineer” Muny of the Poker Players Alliance to find out how Black Friday has effected the PPA's continuing struggle to get online poker regulated in the US. The Full Tilt Poker cash out saga continues with coverage of their latest statement and a portion of the frozen money being released by the DOJ but still no solid payback dates being set by the former online poker giant. The guys also provide some forum static including the 'Comedy Madness' nominees and of course give away the password for the June 5th Poker Stars VIP Club Invitational for PokerCast listeners.

Re: PokerCast Episode 174 - WSOP Preview Show with Amit Makhija & Rich Muny

Regarding your comments regarding a bracelet for the Circuit Champion, didn't the 100 players have to pay their way into one or more Circuit events to win their way into the championship event?
If so, it would seem similar to day two of a multi-day event in that the players must win (not buy) their way into day two.
I would think a backer for the event that qualified someone for the freeroll would be entitled to a share of whatever is won in the freeroll. The earlier events were sort of like satellite for the freeroll.

That's a relatively close draft pool, can't seem to see a clear leading bracket.

Also, brown people in this week's 'cast. I like it.

No. Any Day 2 is the EXACT same event, where you play against the same players with your chip stack, the blinds and everything else carrying over from the previous day. It's simply a continuation of the very same tourney.

This WSOP-C National Championship is a completely seperate event unto itself where a brand new field all starts with equal chip stacks. Many people didn't qualify based on winning a single event, but based on cumulative results earned from many different events. Much of the field will in fact have never played a single hand in the same tournament as each other before this event.

listening now...Amit was great.....seems I'll be railing Team Bunner in the bracelet draft - liked his picks.

Just went over to Pokernews to check on their WSOP coverage and stumbled on this little gem:

Re: PokerCast Episode 174 - WSOP Preview Show with Amit Makhija & Rich Muny

I would imagine Adam is buoyed by Ivey s statement. I am as well. Its good to see someone in this mess has a set of values and feels the need to draw a line in the sand. I wonder where this leaves all the other FTP name prop? Im not talking Lederer and Ferguson but the guys with less financial risk. The Durrrrs Patrick Antonius. Andy Bloch Jen Harman and even Eric Seidel. Wouldn't Iveys statement offered then a perfect opportunity to get on board? Doesn't their absence make you feel they're all on the less than moral side of this as far as fairness to the poker community?

Personally Im very happy with what Phil Ivey did and really disappointed in all the others.

Re: PokerCast Episode 174 - WSOP Preview Show with Amit Makhija & Rich Muny

Ivey's statement:

Quote:
For many years, I have been proud to call myself a poker player. This great sport has taken me to places I only imagined going and I have been blessed with much success. It is therefore with deep regret that I believe I am compelled to release the following statement.

I am deeply disappointed and embarrassed that Full Tilt players have not been paid money they are owed. I am equally embarrassed that as a result many players cannot compete in tournaments and have suffered economic harm.
I am not playing in the World Series of Poker as I do not believe it is fair that I compete when others cannot. I am doing everything I can to seek a solution to the problem as quickly as possible.

My name and reputation have been dragged through the mud, through the inactivity and indecision of others and on behalf of all poker players I refuse to remain silent any longer. I have electronically filed a lawsuit against Tiltware related to the unsettled player accounts. As I am sure the public can imagine, this was not an easy decision for me.

I sincerely hope this statement will ignite those capable of resolving the problems into immediate action and would like to clarify that until a solution is reached that cements the security of all players, both US and International, I will, as I have for the last six weeks, dedicate the entirety of my time and efforts to finding a solution for those who have been wronged by the painfully slow process of repayment.

Surprised nobody picked Matt Affleck. Multi-game player who threatened in the Main Event twice most recently. I'd probably pick him.
