PokerCast Episode 158 - Bart Hanson & Shaun Deeb

Live from Two Plus Two Studios, February 1st 2011 - The feature guest this week on the Two Plus Two PokerCast is poker player and broadcaster Bart Hanson. Bart joins Mike and Adam to talk about his highly acclaimed Deuces Cracked podcast 'Deuce Plays' and the long awaited return of 'Live at the Bike,' a show dedicated to high stakes cash games at the Bicycle Casino. The guys also connect with friend of the show and tournament specialist Shaun Deeb to hear about his strong performance at the PCA, final tabling in Florida while playing both live and online at the same time and what multi-entry tournaments could do to the poker economy. Deuces Cracked coach 'Slowlane123' provides some more great poker strategy about 'Rush Poker Stealing' in this weeks Leggo Poker/Deuces Cracked strategy segment. PokerCast forum moderator and league commissioner Johnny Douglas makes a return appearance to the program for a PCL Season 11 preview. Mike and Adam also wrap up the Aussie Millions, provide coverage of EPT Deauville, preview isildur1's next potential Showdown opponent and of course give away the password for the February 6th Poker Stars VIP Club Invitational for PokerCast listeners.

Did I miss it but did you guys not even mention the Isildur challenge? Maybe waiting for Steve to comment... but it was arguably the biggest of the showdowns thus far.

Channel 4 in the UK is not a BBC channel, but it is one of the 5 channels that everyone in the UK has (if they own a TV)

Re: PokerCast Episode 158 - Bart Hanson & Shaun Deeb

I loved what Shaun Deeb had to say about the Multi-entry tourney. It's exactly what you think it is; a cash grab. As well, as a fish, I really get upset with the fact that I WILL NEVER be doing well +EV wise overall. Yes, these tournaments are fun, but don't ever make the MAJOR TOURNAMENTS for these things. I was looking at the 1k Monday Multi-Entry and I couldn't believe how many REGULAR PLAYERS are playing at MULTIPLE TABLES TOGETHER! I played in one of these and was down to 3 entries near the bubble. I got kicked out by one guy from a bad beat, and later on in the tourney with my other buy-in, this donkey was to my left and sucked out on me again. It really hurts your ego/bankroll if you are a fish and even a regular who is having troubles near the bubble. An outstanding mistake imo by FTP, hurts the community and their website as well.

Re: PokerCast Episode 158 - Bart Hanson & Shaun Deeb

the thing about jared huggins not getting on and saying its advertising vehicle etc is valid up to a point, however why bother pretending that the big game is more geared towards the 2+2 kind of audience.
stapes saying "cool story bro" etc now appears condescending, if we are arguing that it is for fish then can stars please stop educating the fish by putting up stats etc.

that being said, i have recently hated DN but fairplay to him regarding this issue and his offer to stake Jared.

agree with sian dheeb about the FT multi entry etc tournaments.

edit: great show btw guys

Re: PokerCast Episode 158 - Bart Hanson & Shaun Deeb

With regards to the point you brought up in the show with Deeb about the 4 buy ins for tourneys I have a question.

If the rush poker was designed that you could not end up on the same table ever if you bought in multiple times, how did FTP adjust this variable for the chance that someone lucky enough to make the final table in any MTT with the 4 buy in rule? Eventually, over time somebody should be able to make the final table with 2 of their players in a smaller field size right? Or did they design the software that if you bought in 4 times you could never get to the final table with 2-4 players?

Obviously, mathematically this would be rare, but in time it should happen.

Is the software designed to allow the chance of this or not?

I love to hear this talked about on a future show?

Re: PokerCast Episode 158 - Bart Hanson & Shaun Deeb

Your shortstack will combine with another one of your entries like if you have 4 entries still in and the tourney gets down to 3 tables you will lose an entry.

Just because the tourney is muliti entry doesn't mean you have to play it multiple times. I did the $216 1.5 mil gtd the other day and was 89th out of 14,409 players for $2800 on just 1 entry. I busted Adam Junglen early on making a flush vs. his top pair and later got on his table again with 100 players left because he was 6tabling it. One of his entries won $5k.

what happens is that if u have like 4 entries left in a tourney when u get down to 3 tables then ur lowest stack gets merged with your largest stack and you get the cash as if your stack had went out at that point.

Because two of your entries cannot be seated at the same table, if you have more entries than there are tables left in the tournament, two of your entries will merge together. When an entry merger takes place, whichever entry is being moved from a broken table will be merged with your entry that has the smallest stack.

For example, say you have three entries and there are three tables left in a Multi-Entry Tournament. One table breaks, so your entry from that table will merge with your entry with the smallest stack and the chips for both of those entries will be combined into one stack.

richNYC is correct. When merging, the smallest stack merges with whichever stacks table just closed. This may sometimes be your largest stack but not always.
