Episode #480 - November 6th, 2017

Live from the Two Plus Two Studios - On this episode of the Pokercast: We dive into your wonderful mail from the last few weeks. To begin: Emma Fryer, a regular of the live poker circuit in Nottingham passed away and Adam and Terrence share their condolences before we get into ICYMI. This week: WSOPE is wrapping up and Chris Ferguson is officially the POY, plus Dominik Nitsche wins the One Drop high roller. Also the $1M Big One for One Drop will return to Vegas this summer and who else but Leon Tsoukernik is the first to enter. Adam then has a few live PLO hands to review before 140 or less. We’ve got a couple of tone deaf (standard) Hellmuth tweets this week plus a few others. Finally we dive into the Mailbag. Topics this week include: Whether or not you should be refunded for a poorly advertised tournament, a player who regularly shows up late to a live SNG and some live cash game strategy!

Not sure about Merson but I'm fairly sure Negreanu has two different banners. The 2004 one is a tight, head-and-shoulders shot in which he wears a WSOP cap. The 2013 one is a looser shot of him decked out in PokerStars logos while holding up his fifth bracelet.

Merson definitely has two different banners too.

I️ don’t know, the opportunity to request solo time and talk with friends for a bit is tough to pass up for most in that spot

Strong pushback on your #rant:
- hashtags like #rage are great precisely _because_ you get a weird cross section of things. Often the hashtag of the generic current affairs event are very bland by comparison.
- the unique hashtags aren’t a joke about improbable hashtags (anymore), they’re creative use of language & the medium to make asides and counterpoints. It’s innovation.

I couldn't find the show thread where you discussed "Molly's Game," but I guessed the PokerCast community would be amused by this:

Girlfriend: I know we going to stay in tonight and watch Season 2 of Stranger Things, but I just got this email with an invitation to see a SAG-AFTRA screening of "Molly's Game." Would you be interested in doing that instead?

Me: O_O \o/

I guess we haven't been going out long enough for her to know there's only one answer to that question.

Thank you TC for correctly answering the 'I always lose with the best hand' tourney question.

Yes, even if you get an incredibly good run of cards and somehow always get in as a 65/35 favorite for your 3bb stack, you are a huge favorite to lose one in 3 of them. Yes, you will always go out on a "bad beat" but you will never have built a stack to be able to withstand the numbers evening out. And people aren't folding to your 3bb stack, so play better.

I had a friend who had kids before we did who suggested that some amount of solo time was really important, for both of you. They did "mom's night out" where his wife had one night a week that was hers, end stop. She couldn't pre-make dinner, had zero family responsibilities, etc. Dad + kid 100% were self-sufficient. Time to yourself matters.

We've taken that a step further and both my wife and I take one night a week as a "night out". Our kid is now 12, and we're still doing it. It is so easy to get into the habit where both of you are together all the time, centered on the kid. If you both work from home (like we do), doubly so.

As others have mentioned, the kid in the bucket is really the easiest time (other than lack of sleep ), and T, you should look forward to a few months of easy transition. If you run OK in the colic/other issue department, the first 6 months will let you ease into things... if this isn't just memory blackout speaking.
