Pokercast 359 - Lance Bradley, “Scotty Nguyen”, News Views and Mail!

Live from the Two Plus Two Studios - This week on the Pokercast: The gang is back in the studio together after missing a week, so naturally there’s a buildup of content to get to! To kick it off Adam and Terrence share their views on the passing of David “Devilfish” Ulliot, Ross has a trip report from his trip to NYC and the guys are excited about the start of the NHL playoffs. Adam shares his frustration with trying Jason Koon’s manly morning routine and Terrence offers an easier way before jumping into “In Case You Missed It”. This week’s top stories are: The WSOP’s change to media credentials allowing them to censor social media, reactions to the awful televised slowroll from the Irish Open last week, the TDA summit, a poker player crushes jeopardy, Jamie Staples signs to PokerStars, Angela Jordison wins 3 live tournaments in 3 days and Phil Ivey appears in a car commercial. In the second segment this we get a surprise in studio visit from Scotty Nguyen who joins us to share some choice words. Scotty bounces out pretty quickly, but The Bluff Power 20 Ballot is out and has some interesting names from the poker world were included. We bring in Lance Bradley, editor in chief of Bluff Magazine to talk about the most powerful people in poker this year and more. Steve Day then joins us to talk about the huge $1M Sunday Storm coming up this sunday and other happenings at stars this week. In the last segment we’ve got a bunch of your mail to get to since we missed a week. Adam has some shout outs from the forum and we jump in to “Maibag”. The guys review poker hands and talk strat more than we usually do, a few from listeners and a couple from Ross. Lastly, the guys read their favourite tweets from the poker world, and listen for the password and format to this week’s pokercast invitational!

Didn't know it would be posted this evening.

Just behind Pope. Seems good.

Really disappointed that Pokerstars Steve was let off the hook over the state of connections to the site. He claimed everything was back to normal from Sunday. That was a flat out lie and he wasn't called out on it.
Bottom line is Pokerstars is at its most unstable ever.

Since we just had the anniversary of Black Friday, anyone else that goes back and listens to the special episode they did right after Black Friday? I did it last year, and was going to do it again this week. Or maybe another episode that you might do the same with?

Didn't want to clutter the page and make a new thread, so I figured I'd put it here.

Is ROE not round of each? (Nlh/plo), I play it at the casino sometimes. The game usually switches to straight plo though after people realise nlh is boring as sh*t

FT's lobby has looked like a dogs breakfast for a long time now. Perhaps it will improve.

Glad to hear the pigs get a shout out, but I'm not really a pig farmer, I'm just a guy with pigs, and anyway, the pigs are gone now, or rather they're still here, they're just in the freezer. Might get some more in the autumn, and some turkeys.

Love the pokercast, but no more soundboard "interviews" please, that was cringe-worthy.

Ross please write your hands out or something so half the time isn't spent confusing listeners about how much you bet and how much money is in the pot. You guys were off on your totals.

I thought it was hilarious.

BTW you were off on the WSOP winners: Varkonyi was definitely 2002. Believe 1999 was Noel Furlong.

I did exactly this during the week off. It's a pretty interesting listen, especially knowing what we know now. Obviously, hearing Full Tilt get paired with Stars as an example of an upstanding, reputable site is pretty comical to hear but it really was the best of our knowledge at the time.

The soundboard interview was aweful. Additionally I didn't hear anywhere that you gave credit to the person whose work you took to put it on your commercial podcast. "Just Google it" is not giving credit to that specific persons work.

As for the WSOP's clause for reporter credentials, I don't blame them. We'll see how it gets used or abused, but remember this is a rule applied to people with a public media presence that expands beyond just covering the event. So if Ceasars starts banning people for petty things, its going to get out fairly quickly. And this will be by people with existing credentials as well which will force Ceasars to either stop their pettiness or ban more media and gain more bad publicity. Its fairly self correcting.

In your rush to point out a horrible injustice, you must have missed where I said it came from Pokerlistings like 4 times.

Totally missed the point that it changes the coverage just by it's existence.

Out of curiosity, how would we have found the tournament without this number? I'm a bit of a PokerStars noob when it comes to Home Games etc.

You can search for Pokercast in the tournament lobby.

In Manitoba there are school zone ends signs, probably because someone has successfully argued your point in court.

I did miss the attribution, and I apologize.

And i did hear you saying that you believe it will change coverage by its existence. However I don't think it will in any significant manner. I think it will stop petty complaints by media members, but players will still make those. It'll cause reporters to think twice before writing a story just to have something negative to say. If Ceasers goes too heavy handed with banning media outlets, they just aren't going to bother coming back in the future. Face it, covering poker games is a very specialized thing that most people won't realize has stopped. I believe Ceasers realizes this and if broad coverage stops their future returns may suffer.

Now can you address the other issues I've raised? Things such as taking material and songs for creating drops for your show without attribution? Letting us know that the media you use for such things is properly licensed in all the places your show is listened to so we don't have to wonder about it? How links to videos hosted by and posted to sites by those other than the copyright owners are allowed throughout 2+2 and how that's different than other sites you complain about using videos in the same manner? How Tchan's use of the phrase ******ed in a pejorative manner is different than other people such as Todd using demeaning terms about people?
