Episode #464 - June 22nd, 2017

Live from the Two Plus Two Studios - This week on the Pokercast: Another eventful week at the series and Terrence has quite a trip report for us. To Begin:
Pokercast Fantasy update, throwback to when Terrence wrestled Huck Seed out back of the Rio, Last chance to join the “Peehs” game and more weight loss bets. In the news: Terrence final tabled the $10k Limit Hold'em at the WSOP again but this time it was a pretty wild ride, Hellmuth blew up on him and we get a description of possibly the most disruptive player to ever play a high stakes tournament. Nearing the half way mark of the series we update you on all of the bracelets and story lines from the Rio over the past week and problems with the POY scoring.
We are then joined by Alan Boston, Adam previously promised him a match game during March Madness and we play a few rounds and also Alan tells us what he thinks we should do with the money donated to him. We also have more WSOP themed tweets and your wonderful mail including topics of PLO and NLH tournament strategy, the best earbuds for listening to podcasts and “how much ya got”.

The other amazing thing about the guy winning back to back super senior events is that he didn't remember winning it last year.

Regarding the letter about the ROI-based POY system, the WSOP did actually publish entry lists for all of the events in 2011 and 2012 (they're still there in the Reports tabs).

A couple of enterprising organizations scraped the data from the PDF files and built databases of the info (you can look up Phil Hellmuth's buying for those years here: http://wsopdb.com/?q=Phil+Hellmuth). Back when QuadJacks was around, they got a little fancier and combined the buy-in data with winnings, and you could look up pretty much anyone.

QuadJacks disappeared not long after, I have no idea who's behind wsopdb but it's still there, and for some reason, the WSOP stopped publishing the entry lists.

One creative use of the data came from the German site PokerOlymp, which compiled stats on every player with 50 or more entries over those two years. Pretty entertaining.

I love Alan Boston's political takes. Next time he's on can you guys ask him what politicians he does like? Buddy Cianci maybe?

Don't sweat the lack of matches in the match game, imo. The questions are funny enough and who cares.

Also, I thought "sperm bank" was going to sweep the NCAA question.

Seriously TC? I thought you were well versed at math. Saying it was more than a million to 1 that the guy went back to back?

Scenario 1: You pick a random entrant to the event at the beginning of last year and say he will go back to back, yes that is in the million to 1 realm.

Scenario 2: Someone wins the event back to back. That is probably 1000:1 or so, given that he was playing it the second year. It is already given that someone won it last year, and given that he won it he is likely better than average, so if the field was 1700 or so, probably only a 1000 to 1 dog to win it again.

Math man, come on. Understand it.

I guess it might be slightly higher than 1000:1 since it is the super seniors event, so the probability of death or something that causes them not to play it the second year is higher, although as a super senior, less likely than some young degen to be broke and not afford a buy-in the following year.

it's a million to 1 that that guy went back to back

it's 1000 to 1 that somebody went back to back

It's probably more than a million to 1 that the guy found time in his busy schedule of cloning dinosaurs to win the tournament back to back

I'm not sure if you are upset because you think I don't understand the birthday problem or because you think I do but I didn't expressly state it out loud because we're trying to get a show done.

But I do look forward to your weekly 2+ hour podcast where you make absolutely no mistakes. till then gfy.

Guess I'll continue my spot where Adam likes me and the co-host is annoyed to no end by me.

I was actually trying to lay down and take a nap and had to get out of bed and type that post because I was tilted. So sorry for the bad approach, I was grumpy.

Why do I like you again?

If I tweeted every time I stupided myself out of a tournament, I'd never have time to tweet anything else.

Can we recap what'll happen with the $970 for Alan? I'll vote yes on women but no on snow if I have a say. A $20/$40 Stud hi stake is also acceptable.

He would like it to go to a Great Dane rescue organization. Will do some research and see what I can find.
