T- do you own a TENS/ electric stim machine? I feel like you may have mentioned it before, but wondering if you have any recommendations on one to buy? Not the $500 variety, more like the <$100 variety.

They've helped me a bunch with previous PTs after surgery, and I think I've got Quad tendinitis so figured I would just buy one for that and exercises either way, rather than basically rent them with PT payments.

Thanks for any help or thoughts

I own a Compex but that's in the $500+ range. Fwiw if you get one I recommend getting wired instead of wireless.

I know that there has been lots of talk about massage on the training topic. Does anybody have an opinion on Chiropractic care? I have been battling pain in my shoulders for ages and my wife would always recommend seeing a Chiropractor but they seem so kooky to me. Massage therapy has helped but I'm not shelling out for a weekly session. I know that T talked about getting limbs cranked on during training so I thought maybe there is a conventional wisdom about it.
Cheers!

3. Get more flexible
4. Eat much healthier

When I go to the gym, I'm lost. I don't know what exercises to do or how many to achieve my goals.

I try to eat healthy as best I can, but am an emotional eater. I do love most foods and hopefully having a goal will bring focus and willpower to my intake.

Could you point me to a good workout routine to help me slim down. I don't want to get big, looking for more of a runner's physique.

Also, a sample 1 week diet would be great.

Thanks for any help you can provide!
Adam, I'm curious to know how you have progressed and if you still need some help. If you do, I can offer you a program that will help you. No charge!

Thanks for the offer, I'll send you a PM.

Hmmmmm.

Is Adam not doing well at all or angling for an edge. 230lb now apparently.

I'm mid 40s 5'9" 242lbs.
I really need to get below 200.
So I'm going to piggyback on the challenge which Adam just has to take up.
Listening to last week's show has inspired me to lose it. At least that's what I thought before calling into McDonald's for tea.

I guess I'm typical of a lot of overweight people. There is always a reason not to lose weight. Just two of my excuses.
Don't have time.
My knee is knackered so I cannot run.

I will trawl this tread and get there. Maybe it's a platform like this I need.

Good luck with the freehold Adam. You could inspire a lot of listeners, reach the masses, help others, along the way. And take down the 25k.

Greetings, everyone - I am currently involved in a weight loss bet with a friend. We started on April 1 and the official weigh-in at the end is on June 1. We're going by percentage since I outweigh him by close to 30 lbs.

Anyway, I plan to post here daily these last few weeks as a way to stay accountable and to give you some results on how things work. For the first 3-4 weeks of our bet, I was pretty strict on diet and ended up down about 11 lbs. My buddy was not quite as strict as me and was down about 3 lbs so I slacked off a little and now am down a total of closer to 8 lbs.

I intend to win and to do so in a soul-crushing way, so I reached out to TChan for some guidance and he provided me a link to a reputable way of cutting weight for he and his hit-em-in-the-face brethren.

I already work out 4-5 days per week but am switching that up to mostly cardio each time. As for nutrition, I will be looking to eat <40g of carbs each day from now until the weigh-in, with lots of water intake (see the link above) the last few days.

Anyway, here are my starting numbers as of 5/15/17:

6'6" (1.98 m) tall
263.0 lbs (119.3 kg)

I started on 4/1/17 at 270.4 (122.7 kg) and have been down as low as 259.2 (117.6 kg).

I'll post here with updates daily after my morning weigh-in.

May 16th Update: down 2.0 lbs so far

weighed in at 261.0 this morning

Ate 22 total carbs yesterday with lots of protein, 1 gallon of water
Feeling good. I know 2 lb/day is not sustainable and may have more to do with water than anything, but I'm anxious to see how things work out after 1 week, 2 weeks, etc.

So is this also the "old guy needs to lose weight" thread?

The Renodoc is 51. Back in 2012 i went pretty hardcore paleo, altho i do like that chesse, and went from 205 to 179 in 4-5 months. Im 5-10.

That was the predivorce, oh **** im gonna be back on the market weightloss. Standard

Fast forward 4 years and im happily cohabitating and getting fat and lazy. 215 last month

So one day i got disgusted and went back to Paleo. Down to 204 in a month and not really trying that hard.

I'll sit down on the couch after work to watch hockey and then realize i can watch the game just as well while knocking out 500 cal on my elliptical in the next room. Cool. I lift when my 15 year old asks me to spot him. My knees hurt (likely from the extra 20 lb im carrying) and my back is kinda shot-- tried to do some ball-assisted wall squats the other day and my knees told me to **** off

Anyway, i get the food plan and know it will work. Now im considering supplementing my well-off old ass with HGH/T and improving my vit D levels. Who's done this stuff? I'd like all the benefits i read about but im not interested in increasing my rage or tilt and my libido is just fine. It seems like most of the hip 50-somethings i know have been on the needle for years...

Jeebus, aren't you an actual doctor? Can't you just order yourself blood tests and check your D3/T/free-T levels?

But if not, there's just the morning boner test. If Little Reno is still saluting the flag when you wake up in the morning, that's good, but if he sees his shadow and runs away...

Thanks T (no pun)

But obviously you are too young to have looked into this whole field of longevity medicine etc. im good at fixing eyes, but had to do a major refresher on hormones etc. my Vit D is way too low-and that seems an easy enuf fix

My T level is in the normal range, but on the low end. And certainly everything works, but if more T means less insulin resistance, less metabolic syndrome, less belly fat, then im interested.

HGH is another item i have little knowledge about, but friends using it are generally happier

Well the issue with taking exogenous T is always going to be a subsequent downregulation right? I have zero expertise on this topic but asking for simple anecdotes from people in your age group is going to be an issue because we don't know the downstream effects. So even if you feel awesome in the short term, are you going to need more and more as you approach 60, 70, 80 ... ? That's a big part of the reason I don't **** with hormones (well that and I'm still a competitive athlete, so it'd be cheating).

So its pretty fascinating stuff really. They are using Arimidex to block any T>E conversion, and Clomid to inhibit the feedback loop on the pituitary so that the body (i.e. your balls) continues to make endogenous T without getting shutdown by the shots one takes. DHEA is also on the menu.

Do Vancouverites normally have a Vit-D screening done? You guys live in the shade...

I've currently been stuck at 197 for a few days. Got to get going, next milestone is 180 by July 22. 60 days away.

Nice work, Adam! These little plateaus along the way are frustrating but at the same time motivating, I suppose as now I wanna go extra strict to make up for it.

May 22nd Update: down 5.8 lbs so far

weighed in at 257.2 this morning (up .2 lb since last weigh-in)

Ate 38 total carbs yesterday with lots of protein, 1 gallon of water

May 22nd Update: down 7.6 lbs so far (15 total since 4/1/17)

weighed in at 255.4 this morning, so essentially in 1 week of super low carb intake, I am down just as much as I was in the 5 or 6 weeks prior. this is the lowest i've been in quite some time. while not sustainable for me forever, it is nice to know that this method is effective in spurts when i need to drop a few lbs and do a reset for my body.

Ate 25 total carbs yesterday with lots of protein, 1 gallon of water
