lol, pretty amusing article

also I'm pretty shocked by the fact that a car can get seized for driving 150km/h in a 100km/h zone. If that was the case in Germany there would be almost no traffic on the streets.

it's a new law to cut down on "street racing". a lot of people are getting killed in Canadian cities by idiot teenagers that just watched 2 Fast 2 Furious or some ****. Standard knee jerk legislation. We just got a new law two weeks ago in Ontario about cell phones while driving.

I see, well what they'll do in Germany if they catch you w/ 150 in a 100 zone is pretty much gonna be taking your license away for up to 4 months. In addition there's a point system where you accumulate points for infractions (driving to fast and certain other things / 150 in a 100 probably gets you 5 pts i think) and when you are reach 17 points (i think) you get your license taken away and have to go through an enormous process to get it back (involving psychological evaluation of your character to see if you can be trusted steering a car again). Whole process normally costs well beyond 3000 Euro (~$4500 US) and takes a long time.

Also getting your drivers license in the first place costs around 2000 Euro (~$3000 US) consisting of driving school and driving-test fees (a driving test cost about 500€, so if you flunk your first driving test you have to pay another 500€ for your second try).

Of course there's still lots of people getting killed on german streets in accidents and such but the incentive to keep your driving license (i.e. abiding by the laws) is essentially 'cause you have to sink so much money into initially getting it and having to pay even more if you ever lose it and want to get it back.

I'm guessing 500NL+ players fail the test quite frequently, as it's only one bai yin for them to re test (rebuy).

I only have one good Canada-related story. (And it's only "good" because it has some peripheral gambling and sex content.)

I "met" this hot, Canadian, 18-year-old goth girl online and we started flirting. Eventually, she suggests I come up to see her. Suffice it to say that she was explicit about the fact that she was not looking for a meaningful long-term relationship. When I googled the driving directions, I noticed that she lives near a casino. This was before I played poker, but I did play blackjack, and I was trying to learn card counting. (Never succeeded.) So I figured I had a great weekend ahead of me.

I drive about 8 hours to the Canadian border and I am completely exhausted and a little punchy by the time I get there. The woman in the booth at the border station asks me some standard questions, including "Are you visiting anyone?" Of course I am, but I freeze as I think, "Crap! She's going to ask for the name of the person I'm visiting. What's her last name? Do I know her last name?" (I did, I just froze because I as punchy.) So I blurt out, "No, I'm not visiting anyone."

She then asks, "Purpose of visit?" The first thing that pops into my head is the truth: "I'm visiting your fine country to have hot, meaningless sex with one of your women and also to gamble in one of your casinos." But even if that weren't embarrassing to admit, I already said I'm not visiting anyone. So I just said, "Sightseeing."

Next question, "And what city will you be staying in?" I figured this was a "safe" question, so I honestly told her the name of the city I was going to. Now, out of deference to the woman I visited, I'm not going to name the city. But apparently it is roughly the Canadian equivalent of Cleveland. The woman in the booth stares at me in incredulity and says, "You're here for sightseeing and you're staying in *****?!"

I cleverly replied, "Uhhhhhh, yeah."

So, long story short, I get my car searched for drugs, guns, etc. Fortunately, gambling and sex are my only (major) vices, so my car was clean, and I went on about my business.

And, in answer to the obvious questions: yes, she looked like her pictures; no, I didn't get drugged or mugged; yes, it was awesome; no, you can't see pictures of her (again, in deference to her, sorry if that makes it busto); yes, I lost at blackjack.

Windsor, Hamilton and Winnipeg are the three options I'll throw out there. Did you come through the border through Buffalo, Detroit or Minnesota?

Oh, good guess. I'll just say it was one of the three you mentioned.

I'd say definitely Hamilton, as they likely have lots of slutty goth chicks but what casino would be close? Brantford? Therefore I'm going to have to go with Windsor. Googling the city of Windsor would come up with the casino right away, and would be a relatively short jaunt into Canada for the uninitiated.

Windsor, final answer.

Hamilton is close enough to Niagara.

You can rule out Winnipeg, there haven't been goths here since the '90s, it is more often referred to as the Cincinnati of Canada and New York is more than a weekend trip away.

I agree it's not Winnipeg, but I don't think someone just looking up Hamilton would search enough to realize there's a casino about an hour or so away. I will concede that a border guard would raise more of an eyebrow about site seeing in Hamilton than Windsor though.

Elisha's choice of Dion Phaneuf as her boyfriend for 2009 is one of the major political issues for the first session of next year's Canadian Parliament. Something must be done to stop the travesty.
