Go with $ cashed only.

First, thanks for tabulating the results for us!

I think $ cashed would reward a couple very high finishes too much over several consistent deep runs.

There's no way around the unpredictability of many pros' schedules. If I knew Elezra would play a full schedule and Ivey would disappear a couple weeks into WSOP, then I would have picked Elezra, but that's part of the fun I guess.

Waiting for my team to get tantalizing close to first, before I slip down the standings after the main event.

About the "$ cashed" comment: I totally agree. That's why I recommended a cap on any one cash. Maybe the cap is still too high?

About the unpredictability of the pros' schedules: I think this system would alleviate a lot of that. With 100s of players on your team, one player's schedule would not be as important as it is now. I did see Elezra's tweet saying he was going to play a full schedule. However, I missed Connor Drinan's tweet that he had broken his arm. Unfortunately, that's what most of the preparation for this pool comes down to: reading player's tweets. I would prefer a strategy based preparation.

Good luck the rest of the way.

Wait...what? I don't think I understand the selection process at all. I prob wouldn't be up for picking a team composed of '100s'.

Personally I like the format as it is. For instance, I think the multiple cashes of someone like Rob Mizrachi, even though totalling less than 200k, should be rewarded by more points than, say, Loren Klein's one $1m+ score, as GPI reflects.

I don't even use twitter and don't mind a bit of gambling on schedules.

You have only 12 picks (3 players, 3 cities, 3 states and 3 countries). If you pick the UK as a country you get Stevie...and Benny....and Adam and every other Brit who plays in the WSOP (100s). Your job is just to ask yourself "can the Brits get me more $ than the Germans....or the Russians....or the Canadians" etc.

The Robert Mizrachi vs Loren Klein comparison seems to be mixing pool results with "real life". Inside a pool it doesn't matter who is better - only who will get me more points.

As a poker player, I hate gambling!

Good luck hanging onto 6th (or moving up).

Re: **2+2 WSOP FANTASY LEAGUE - SWEAT THREAD**

Ah, I got you. Though I think most would set patriotism aside & come up with more or less the same country picks.

Of course, you are doing all the work here atm; super appreciate that & don't mean to criticise as such, just offering my thoughts.

As an increasingly casual poker player, I like the combination of strategy & gambling.

Thanks! Vitch still crushing stud8 so I'm hoping for a little bump!

added tournaments #11 amd 64. the results for #11 are a real mess: they only gave GPI points to the top 310 finishers and of those 310 only 280 are listed!

If you'll notice, WSOP includes hometown for every player.
Everyone's picks will be 3 players, 3 cities, 3 states and 3 countries.
The kicker: you cannot pick the same player more than once! So,
if you pick Daniel Negreanu you cannot pick Canada as a country
if you pick Jason Mercier you cannot pick Florida as a state
if you pick Philadelphia as a city you cannot pick John Hennigan etc etc
We'll move all "name" players back to their hometown.
We'll set a cap of $1M on any one cash.
We'll supply a complete list of players with their home city/state/country beforehand.
We'll set up a "quick pick" option for those who are too lazy to do the work.

Good system because:
We don't rely on anyone else's calculating system,
Everyone likes cheering for their home city and state/country.
It's not so dependent on what kind of schedule an individual player will play.
There's some strategy here for people who like a puzzle.
More players to rail: you should have at least one player at every final table.

Comments?
Ultimately, anyone is welcome to create their own fantasy league/pool, so even if a GPI POW version exists next year, your concept could easily be put into play. (i.e. I'm already interested).

Similar to your idea, I recall playing in a league where your team had to have a certain composition. So for example (these weren't the actual criteria):

Player who has won at least three past bracelets:
Player who has not won a bracelet in the last five years:
Age 50 or older:
High Stakes Poker alumnus/alumna:
U.S. nationality (per Hendon Mob):
Canadian in nationality(per Hendon Mob):
British in nationality (per Hendon Mob)
Female player:
Wild Card #1:
Wild Card #2:

The wild cards, as the name would suggest, have no restrictions and can be anyone else you choose. Of course, there are players who fit multiple categories, so you would choose strategically which "slot" you want them to fill. (e.g. it would probably be foolish to use Kristen Bicknell as your Canadian.)

In some ways, it has elements of the PEEHS/SHEEP games. The fun part is coming up with requirements that do not lend themselves to a few obvious choices. So "Past Main Event champion," "Past WSOP Player of the Year" or even "female player" would not be good categories right now, as everyone would generally gravitate toward the same 2-3 players for each.

What may not have been clear with my proposal is that I can supply all the required information. I can give you every city/state/country with a full list of their players. No research required. What I want in a pool is 100% strategy and 0% research. Just think of the amount of work required for "50 years old": trying to track down the birthdates of all those players!
Your comment about not making it too obvious is quite right. However, that is easily rectified: just put a cap on each team based on 2018 $ winnings just like this year we had the 1500 point cap.
Not sure about anyone can do this. I've put forward pool ideas before and was told by 2+2 that I shouldn't be doing that. That's why I'm making this suggestion about an already sanctioned 2+2 pool.

Re: **2+2 WSOP FANTASY LEAGUE - SWEAT THREAD**

Just for fun I totaled the results up to and including the Main Event by player/city/state/country and then did a Random.Org selection to see what Adam's team would look like next year if you guys went with my suggestion. $5M cap.

PLAYERS:
---------
Robert Nehorayan (Sherman Oaks, CA)
Richard Klein (Littleton, Colorado)
Ignacio Barcenas (Madrid, Spain)

CITIES:
-------
Brooklyn, NY
Cheshunt, UK
Vail, CO

STATES:
--------
Arizona
New Hampshire
Maine

COUNTRIES:
------------
Japan
Bolivia
Ecuador

could anyone do better?

The only thing wrong with Arizona is that it took up over $3.3M of the $5M budget. Wasn't much $ left for the other 11 picks. BTW, the total cost of these 12 picks was $4,999,994.

Re: **2+2 WSOP FANTASY LEAGUE - SWEAT THREAD**

It is getting really close.... but despite the fact I’ve got more horsies cashed in event 75 than pokerbrat (as far as I can see) I think I’m not gonna make it.
How do you collect the poy points? Poy leaderboard only shows top 100. You’ve got some kind of tool for it?

Re: **2+2 WSOP FANTASY LEAGUE - SWEAT THREAD**

We've been using the GPI system, it was all detailed in the original signup thread

we went GPI because of the fact that the main POY only shows top 100

Also life has been so busy for me recently like you wouldn't believe. New job, selling a home, moving to another country, car troubles, sub 1 year old baby and a heatwave.

I'm really grateful to FerencL for picking up the slack while I've been mostly absent. I will deal with checking and payments once this is over.

I couldn't have done it without you FerencL

Re: **2+2 WSOP FANTASY LEAGUE - SWEAT THREAD**

Ah okay. And how do you check all this data? You don’t have to check the GPI site after each event and go through all the players, do you?
