Re: **2+2 WSOP FANTASY LEAGUE - SWEAT THREAD**

Thanks for the kind words guys.
Yup, Xander has a spreadsheet and I have a database program.
Also, I believe that he's using the leaderboard listing and I added mine one tournament at a time.
I just looked up the winner of tournament #7. He's still missing from the GPI Leaderboard. So, they've missed at least one of the tournaments. Of course where I get my GPI points isn't foolproof either: a lot of times a tournament will have 1100 players cashing but show up as "1098 records added". So, they lose track of a player or 2. It's still better that forgetting an entire tournament. I would still recommend that we stop relying on others to do our scoring. Use an easy scoring system like $ won (with a cap in place).
And naturally I would prefer a more interesting pool which I've mentioned here before (to only a very lukewarm response!).

Why not using the scoring system as is used for the 25k fantasy draft?
Wouldn't that be much easier for you guys?

Looks like gamblingmonkey has it in the bag with only #78 to come and he has Justin Bonomo and Dan Smith. David ODB Baker cashed in #75 so I'll fix that with the next update (affects Rabble303).

It can't possibly matter much in terms of the standings, but I just noticed that I have Jake Schindler on my roster as "Jake Schnidler." Not sure if that results in a zero in your spreadsheet/database system.

Thanks!

But these calculations are quite easy right. Just check who has finished ITM and who has finisched 13th or better..
I might underestimate it a lot.

seems easy until you realise that you've got to do that for 150+ players across 78 events making 11,700+ checks

Nope, I'm a computer programmer so you can make it as complicated as you like! I can load the results and then do anything you like with the data.
The 25k Fantasy calculation is a good one because it doesn't rely on anyone else and a lot of people may already be familiar with it. maybe Xander could set it up with Daniel and ODB: there's the 25K, the $500 and the $20 online. Get Daniel and ODB to plug it along with their pools and you'd probably get a thousand entries!
I was suggesting $ amounts because that would be easiest for participants to figure (I need a cash of $50,385 to make 3rd place rather than I need a 4th place finish in a 10K with 200 entries or a 1st place in a 1 1/2K with 600 entries or..........).

Re: **2+2 WSOP FANTASY LEAGUE - SWEAT THREAD**

NEWS ALERT!!! Gamblingmonkey robbed!!!!
I was patiently waiting for the GPI points for the One Drop so I could publish the final standings. It was taking a while so I decided to read the GPI scoring system. GPI rule #2: in order to count for GPI points the tournament must have at least 32 entries. The One Drop had 27. GPI has calculated the GPI points for the One Drop and determined that Justin Bonomo and Dan Smith get zero points! And this pool's rules that Xander can step in and fix things is only if GPI doesn't calculate points for the WSOP. They have calculated points for the WSOP and their calculation for the One Drop is that everyone will be awarded zero points.
Was everyone aware of this or is all heck about to break loose?

I'll check over everything this weekend but I feel like we're going to stick to the original rules and use the GPI points.

If you agree or disagree with how they award points that's one thing, but it's fair, transparent and consistent which is what this competition needs to be.

Well that sucks.

Figured that all open events counted. It seemed assumed from the rules of all the previous leagues. Everything counts except ladies events and senior/super seniors etc... Even put Smith in my team as he had declared for the one drop & other high buy ins prior to the wsop & thought he had a shot at a few results.

I don't believe anyone had considered a technicality of gpi points not being awarded for the final event was a factor prior to it happening. Personally I feel it's a little unsatisfactory that the event is discounted, it doesn't seem to be within the spirit of the competition. (& with genuine honesty I would say this whether it made a difference to my position or not). A little bit of an anticlimactical feel to it I suppose.

That being said. Xanderbiscuits is the guy running things & has clearly put in a lot of hard work & effort into organising this, as has ferencL (Thanks very much, greatly appreciated guys). All heck is not about to break loose It really isn't fair to make an issue of it for these guys to sort out. I am grateful enough that they have given their time & energy to organising the league & updating scores. They don't deserve the headache.

A hundred bucks or whatever the difference between places (I haven't really looked) really doesn't make much of a difference. I enter a team for the sweat & the competition of it rather than to win anything financially (as most do I expect). Whatever Xanderbiscuits, who I suppose is the commissioner of the league, decides is the final say & I hope everyone is cool with that.

If I am allowed a moment of hubris, I am satisfied that my team seems to have performed the best in the pool (with a brief glance at the other teams near the top end of the rankings seems to confirm if the one drop counts I would collect enough points to win with two places in the top three of the one drop). If I wished to appeal it would only be for the win rather than the money. (Genuinely, nudge nudge wink wink )

Being robbed of a victory on the river is not an unusual feeling for a poker player. Rather fitting. Being scuppered on a technicality in the last event like this feels very much the same way.

In my head at least it feels like a win. Or what was it they said? 'A statistical tie'

Anyhow, well played & gg everyone etc etc. This event is always a fun sweat. & a sincere thanks to all the time & effort put in by those organising & tallying the scores as they accumulate, you do a fantastic job.

Right you are. The rules stated GPI points would be used. Anyone could have gone to the GPI site and checked on how GPI points are calculated. They would have seen right away that tournaments must have at least 32 entries. They then could have pondered whether the One Drop would be counted or not and picked their players accordingly.
When we got down to the final 6 in the One Drop I posted that it looked like gamblingmonkey had won. Nobody corrected me. So, even though it was there in plain sight for all to see, nobody (including myself) noticed it til after the fact.
Meanwhile, alll hail PascalKid. He did not pick any of those nosebleed stakes NLH players. Maybe he did notice the 32 entry rule and selected accordingly?

Re: **2+2 WSOP FANTASY LEAGUE - SWEAT THREAD**

Actually I didn't... I've put my team together according all the info I had on several players and selected all the players of which I knew they would play a full summer schedule. For the NLH events I selected Imsirovic (since he had a couple of bracelet/side bets going on for the WSOP) and Vornicu, knowing he would not only play a lot NLH, but also some mixed games.
While picking my team I haven't thought about the big one for one drop, because I had in mind that scoring would be according the POY system (where the big one is excluded from points). Knowing the one drop would be a tourney with a very small field, it would be a big mistake to not select one of the players who would play this. If I had thought about the one drop I def would pick Bonomo, since he was relatively cheap, knowing for playing at least a couple events at WSOP and it's a beast of who you would be certain of for playing the big one.

In the end I think I'm just a luckbox. I was just very lucky that a lot of players/businessmen skipped the big one for one drop and that it just attracted 27 entrants this year. If it would have been 32 entrants i would likely ended up 2nd.

I guess I can imagine how Gamblingmonkey feels right now. Like he said he got a sort of suck out on the river. On the other hand, I could say the same if the entrants were 32 in the end.

It was really really close this year. Last year, I believe Jdalla won it a mile ahead. This year it was excited till the very end of the series.

I really enjoyed it all and not only because I won it this year. I put some fun work in it to analyse and come up with the best team I could select and I'm just glad it paid off in victory.
I would like to thank you all, especially Xander and FerencL. You guys do some really nice work in putting this together. It makes the railfun a lot more fun!

And Gamblingmonkey: Sorry for sucking out on you on the river
