In that hand i would fold pre and on the flop. I think there are at least a couple of important differences.
1) You are getting a poorer price preflop. Making it 0.20 and calling 0.40 more with 10 behind is a lot different than 0.30-1.00.
2) Flop there are a lot more semibluffing hands that may bet turn such as AK/AJ that will cause you to not be able to win the pot often enough with your line.
3) When aggressive players check a turn king with initiative, it usually means they have a hand they aren't folding to one bet. So I think he has like JJ or AQ very often and won't fold river.
