Shove river,as a bluff and for value imo

Jeez these small stakes tables are terrible in the week, the level of nittiness is ridiculous, everyone's trying to win. :-D

$200NL looks ok at the moment but I don't have the cash to play there.

Just when I think I'm about to win my only buy-in of the night, this happens:

PokerStars - $1 NL - Holdem - 8 players
Hand converted by PokerTracker 3

BTN: $100.00
Hero (SB): $100.00
BB: $248.04
UTG: $226.74
UTG+1: $39.50
MP: $93.39
MP+1: $54.62
CO: $141.58

Hero posts SB $0.50, BB posts BB $1.00

Pre Flop: ($1.50) Hero has Q J

fold, fold, fold, fold, fold, BTN raises to $2.35, Hero calls $1.85, fold

Flop: ($5.70, 2 players) J Q 8
Hero checks, BTN bets $4.08, Hero calls $4.08

Turn: ($13.86, 2 players) Q
Hero checks, BTN bets $9.93, Hero raises to $29.00, BTN raises to $93.57 and is all-in, Hero calls $64.57 and is all-in

River: ($201.00, 2 players) 5

Hero shows Q J (Full House, Queens full of Jacks) (Pre 50%, Flop 50%, Turn 50%)
BTN shows Q J (Full House, Queens full of Jacks) (Pre 50%, Flop 50%, Turn 50%)
BTN wins $99.10
Hero wins $99.10

I should have known not to have got my hopes up! :-D

I feel like that last post just made the world a worse place

If you're asking advanced questions like this, I highly recommend skipping 100nl entirely. Try 400nl, or even 1k.

I haven't played enough career hands to really understand variance and how it effects my game in particular. I'm just swimming around the various games and trying to see if I am good enough to make some money at them.

I can't play higher as I definitely don't have enough for $1000nl, I don't even have 2 buyins for that level. I'm down to only 16.5 buyins for $100nl, after dumping most of my microstakes winnings up at small stakes, but hopefully it's just bad variance and I can win it back. Until I've played 500,000+ hands I just won't know.

move down
09-05-2012 , 10:03 PM
yea for starters you should do something like 50 buyin as a BR minimum until you realize from experience that 18 buyins will be gone like the sun and variance is the biggest bitch of them all
so play 0,50/1 when u have 5k and gl

500bbs is enough to sit in any game

Said it before, will say it again...

Life roll is far more important than your stars roll when discussing how many bi's u need for a given limit.

He should have shoveled more money into the pot and you should have lost your stack So in hindsight you not losing your whole stack is great, but, lose it next time imo.

Yeah, I'm trying not to move down if possible because that just holds your progress up. I had some big downswings at $25NL and came through it. I've just got to get used to the nittiness of these games. Last night was a real shocker.

guys, i need your advice

15 buy-ins seems way too low. You could be playing like scared money and missing a lot profitable spots where you should shovel your money in, but take more passive approach to not face negative variance. Also if you drop couple buy-ins it seems like big hit to your roll. I would say take it easy, don't rush anything. Move down to NL25, take a shot at next level when you have 40-50 buy-ins, move down if you lose 5-10 buy-ins.

Thanks for your help. Yeah, I am playing a little bit scared money at the moment, only made 2 bluffs so far. I was kind of hoping to run good and then that would build my roll up a bit!

I'm also mixing in some $50NL as well so that it spreads the risk a bit.

My cbet % has dropped from about 40% to 33%, and my W$SD has increased from 63% to 67%.

Pokie don't know much about you but your post above tells that nl100 regs will crush you so please move down to at least nl25 and read some books and watch videos...

I'm playing a multitude of stakes at the moment, so I'm not really at one particular level, but $100NL is one of the stakes that I currently play and it does seem pretty tough I must say.
