Any big winners with bad redlines? Any big winners with bad redlines?

10-17-2009 , 10:45 PM
I'm talking 3 ptbb or more. I have the typical nitty looking redline, even though I mix up my play a lot (3 and 4 bet light, check raise air a lot). I'm sure I don't double and triple barrel enough, but I'm always looking for good spots. Anyway, back to my question: Is it possible to achieve a 4 ptbb/100 winrate with a crappy redline at full ring? I've been stuck in the 2-2.5 range and all the massive winners I've seen (5-7ptbb) seem to be laggier. The only tagish player I've seen is jrockhaff at 4ptbb (according to ptr) but I haven't seen his redline.

Something like this? (Although it's not like I'm a huge winrate winner or something)

1/2 NL

Yeah, only like in the top three or four winrates at the level, lol. Ban for fake modesty.

My red line sucks, but the answer to your question is yes. Red line has gotten much better tho, getting coached has helped

define 'bad' redline...

i've heard some mathematical arguments on this awhile ago, but as far as i recall, redlines don't mean much until you show a redline that is -3BB/100 large sample, then you are probably doing something wrong

meh, mines negative and I'm at 12bb/100 over 300k hands

I have a pretty recent graph/stats in my profile for coaching

Most likely, I'll graduate summa cum laude from my university. Also, I have a pretty big d, definitely above average. Oh and me and a couple of friends are starting up a T-shirt business, so PM me for details and I'll hook you up with a good price.

PM sent, would really like some t-shirts. Will they help out with redline?

I just tell myself it's bad because I'm so good at valuetowning people?

Quit caring about the thick green line and a good redline becomes very easy to get.

it's really sort of fascinating that no one worries about their blue line, or even their green line for that matter. sort of fits in with the fish mentality that poker is all about bluffing people.
10-18-2009 , 03:21 PM
id say having a good redline when playing with fish is probably a poor choice
10-18-2009 , 10:38 PM
THERE IS ONLY ONE IMPORTANT LINE : THE GREEN ONE

Find the way to get the green line as high as possible and like Metallica would say "Nothing else matters".

Its not as fascinating as you think. Of course everyone is worried about the green line. Anyone who likes money is worried about the green line, that's obvious. Personally, I can make my blue line go up as high as I want. Just play tighter. But I find it difficult to make my red line go up, and I tend to believe that may reveal some weakness in my game.

I have a negative read line and I'm around a 5 PT BB winner at NL100.
10-19-2009 , 11:06 AM
im a winner over a large sample both NL200 FR and NL100 FR and my red line is negative , but its getting better

alot of breakeven players will have redlines that are the exact inverse of their blue ones, which in turn starts a tonne of threads about how to get the red line up, when it isn't that straightforward. you can win with negative redlines, negative blue lines, both lines positive. it doesn't really matter, just check your stats instead which are more helpful. This is a broad generalisation but if you have a poor redline and are breakeven then if your w$wsf is < 40% then you probably aren't taking down enough pots, if your wtsd is < 20% you are probably folding too much. If these stats seem okay, you probably have other postflop leaks. But FFS use stats to help you, not a red line.
